Hanover Tp Declares Snow Emergency

Hanover Township - Northampton County announces a Snow Emergency effective at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 through 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014.

Snow Emergency Information: Hanover Township has found it necessary to declare a "Snow Emergency" due to the potential for a significant snow event Tuesday. Parking on all Township streets is prohibited and vehicles may be ticketed ($50 fine). (§172-29 of the Codified Ordinance reads: Whenever a snow emergency has been declared it shall be unlawful for any vehicle to be abandoned or parked, on any public highway/street.)

Again, the Township has declared a Snow Emergency as a result of an impending storm. Tickets can be issued once the (Snow Emergency) parking ban goes into effect and in some instances prior to the snow actually starting to fall.

  2. The above two comments come from idiots who don't understand that snow emergencies are what enable road crews to clear the roads during storms, thus making it possible for people to travel in relative safety after the storm is over. Municipalities that fail to declare snow emergencies suffer the result in poorly plowed roads.

  3. Bernie thanks for sharing this. Hanover does a great job communicating with residents and gets the word out early. We appreciate everything our Public Works Crew does.

  4. ...or maybe pro-active?

You have the forecast, so I congratulate the decisive nature of Hanover governance.

In anon 10:11 was in charge, presumably, he would wait until there was 12" on the ground before declaring a snow emergency.

  5. They declared an emergency at 10:00 am when there was 0.7 inches of snow on the ground. and I got a ticket without warning a little after noon. I live on a side street that dead ends. I am lucky if I even hear a road crew clear the streets let alone see them do it until after the snow is long over. I work at home on bad weather days. If there is a substantial amount of snow on the ground it is reasonable to expect an emergency to be declared. But does the Township really expect that its residents be constantly connected to its website with so little snow on the ground? Besides they should give people either a warning to move their vehicles or a few hours of notice before they ticket. It sure takes them a lot more than a few hours to plow my street. This is abuse on the highest order. It is really starting to stink in Finnegans' Kingdom. Something has got to change.

  6. Unless you live on the Planet nebula, you knew a snow event was headed our way. You know you live in a township that declares snow emergencies. I am glad you were ticketed. Your laziness is an impediment to public safety, makes the roads more dangerous and can cause real problems. If you are looking for sympathy her, you'll find none.

Talk to people in Bethlehem, who complain that the City does not declare snow emergencies quickly enough. The result is poorly plowed roads.

Then talk to people in lower mac. Their cars were towed.

You got a $25 ticket, and you deserve it.

If you think the Tp policy is bad and everyone should kiss your ass, come to the next Supervisors' meeting and demand changes.

  7. Maybe it's Finnegan's way of having Buzzie's CRPD stormtroopers get an early jump on ticketing Hanover residents. Good way to fill the municipal coffers without raising taxes. Pure genius!

  8. The snow storm was known for a couple of days. Most homes in hanover have a driveway or at worst the ability to park on your lawn. Cars should have been off the street last night already in anticipation. No sympathy from me.

  9. The Township website reminds individuals that snow emergencies are declared well in advance of the storm. I believe I saw Hanover's notice on the 11 p.m. news and the 6 a.m. news well before it went into effect. I also received at email 25 hours in advance. I think they give us enough notice. Get your car off the street.
