Are You Ready For 2013 NorCo Citizens' Academy?

Counties are the least sexy of all municipal governments ... until a bridge collapses. Though called the forgotten government, it has more impact on your day-to-day life than you might think. The 22 people who graduated from Northampton County's first Citizens’ Academy last year were shocked by what they learned. Two of them, Christen Borso and Deb Hunter, are now running for County Council themselves.

Fueled by last year's success, a second annual Citizens' Academy will start on September 9. It's an 11-week Wednesday night program focused on the county jail, Juvenile Justice Center, the 911 Center and Gracedale. It will include presentations from the courts, human services, parks and recreation, and fiscal operations. Graduates are asked to serve as a volunteer at one of the counties programs or facilities, or on one of its many Authorities, Boards, and Commissions.

To participate, you must live in the County and be willing to attend all sessions.

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence.
