For the past four years, LV Congressman
Charlie Dent has been urging the FDA to require warnings on tanning devices, just like the warnings you might see on a pack of cigarettes. Well under a proposed Order issued on Monday, the FDA will now
The FDA will require warnings that clearly informs consumers about the risks of using tanning beds; warns frequent users of sunlamps to be regularly screened for skin cancer; and alerts users that tanning lamps are not recommended for people under 18 years of age.
In a news release, Dent cites an American Academy of Dermatology study finding that the ultraviolet radiation from indoor tanning increases the risk of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, by 75%.
“We
are rightly concerned about preventing kids from smoking because of
the cancer risk and other health risks. It doesn’t make sense to
stay silent about the inherent danger these devices pose to people’s
health. Parents and kids have the right to know the risk they’re
taking,”
Dent observes.

It's so good to know with all the issues that need to be addressed in our nation, that Charlie is on top of the tanning issue.
nanny state. Scott Armstrong
more importantly, what about the dangers of tan-in-a-can?
people like jim gregory want to know!
What else is out there the government should be warning us about? Isn't it time to set up a government commission to look into that?
Allentown Democrat Voter
But Charlie wants 15-year olds to get unrestricted abortion access without parental consent. What an evil ghoul.
he needs to go after gm foods next .
wont stop criminals from using them
Tanning abuse will solve itself organically if we head off the unwanted bastards before they start causing trouble - a sort of SPF to protect against breeding classes.
Charlie Dent.
Kickin' ass and takin' names...

Now I'll look ghostly at my abortion! Charlie Dent is heartless.
I tan once a month, from the waist down, socks on. It's hot and ladies call it the blackout.
Mr. Armstrong, for someone who is responsible to represent our yout as an Allentown School Director, I find your comments absurd and unbecoming of the position you hold. Teens are at a vulneerable age and just maybe and extra reminder not to do things that migh have life consequense is the MORAL and Parental thing to do.
Scott, is teachin abstinence considered an nsnny state teachings? Should we be teaching teens about sexually transmitted diseased and they have life consequences? Should we be educating folks about the risks and ways AIDS is tranfered?
This is about providing individual the facts so they can make informed decision on their own.
Mr. Armstrong, I am glad you do not represent my School District.
