Callahan Snags ET Endorsement

Despite some bumps in the road a few years ago, The Express Times concludes that John Callahan is the best Democrat seeking the NorCo Executive slot this year. "[T]he pivotal issue in this primary race comes down to this: If you need someone to run a big bureaucracy, look for someone who not only has experience in public management, but has instituted changes of efficiency on behalf of the taxpayer — and shown that he can take the heat."

  1. Now the ET can sit back and get advertising dollars from all 3 candidates.

  2. Of course the ET will endorse Callahan. Why not. He's the best man for the job. McClure is a few years away from being executive material. He needs to clean up his absenteeism and go to the middle of the road when it comes to unions. However, some day he will be exec material. Reibman blew his wa years ago. He could have pulled a Heckman or a Seyfried and become "the elder satesmen" a role that fits them, but no, he had to make an ass out of himself after having the most corrupt administration in the history of the county.

  3. "Now the ET can sit back and get advertising dollars from all 3 candidates."

Now who is the idiot there? The ET for taking their money, or the candidates for spending it. If Reibman and McClure are throwing away their money, as you seem to think, just imagine what they will do with taxpayer funds. In Reibman's case, you don't have to imagine.

  4. MacDumb states that he will not raise taxes, his word is good enough for me...

  5. Judging by the two other candidates in this weak field, was this really hard to figure out?

    ReplyDelete
  6. No surprise they endorsed him for Mayor. They hate Reibman and McClure.

Callahan is anti-worker, a Republican in Democrat clothing, so of course the ET picked him.

  7. I am assuming this ET's endorsement is for the primary race only or for the fall elections also?

  8. Johnny Casino is cute and the chicks dig him. What don't you get? The unions are flushing coin down the hopper for zilch!

  9. What kind of prick will Lamont be when he loses and then still sits on county council? I predict he will be insufferable..

    ReplyDelete
  10. He's already insufferable, so I don't see him getting worse than he already is. But I do see him losing his Council race 2 years from now.

  11. We are all missing the bigger picture. If you take all the people who read the Express Times and add it to all the people who know that there is a county executive election this year, you still cannot count more than 73. (If you take all the people who read the editorial page of the Express Times and add that number to all the people who know that there is a county election this year, you get 71.)

  12. Charlie Dent called Callahan an unfit pay-to-play specialist. Charlie said Callahan's Bethlehem record was a sham. Bob Donchez unintentionally confirmed this in his impolitic statements earlier this week. He's an awful, sleazy, incompetent choice. The only ones who are worse are the other two slobs. God help us from this creep.

  13. the express was right on with gracedale. Oh that's right they were wrong on Gracedale, wrong with picking Angle and wrong with this choice too. Lamont is the best and doesn't need a job. Keep up the good work Lamont this county needs you.

  14. Lamont? Good work? He doesn't even show up for meetings for cripes sake! Attendance is important but not to Lamont. He's the Allen Iverson type..practice? Practice? What a loser..

  15. "Lamont is the best and doesn't need a job."

How do you know that? After being at the Angelos firm for a gazillion years, "Maclure" is still just an associate.

And it is a scam profession, according to a recent article in the WSJ. Angelos wanted to consolidate 10,000 asbestos cases, and a judges discovered that 9,000 of them had been diagnosed by the same set of nine doctors. One of them was churning them out once every four minutes.

    Lot of bogus suits.

If I were McClure, I'd be looking for a job somewhere else, too. His area of "expertise" is increasingly viewed as a scam.

  16. who cares what they say, they said the same thing on angle and the sale of gracedale they were wrong on both.

  17. Had the endorsement been for "maclure", my guess is you'd be screaming about it at the top of your lungs.

Endorsements don't mean a great deal, but they do matter, especially in a three-way contest.

This race is over. Callahan has run a masterful campaign. While Reibman and "maclure" have both disgraced themselves with sleazy campaign mailers, Callahan has been meeting voters day and night.

    ReplyDelete
  18. By sleazy do you mean by telling the truth? Didn't you condemn Callahan on this very blog and you tube?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I did not condemn Callahan on Youtube. Sorry. That is video. I did criticize Callahan here, years ago, when Bethlehem had serious financial problems and he was listening to Washington handlers instead of being accountable. To his credit, he is a person who can learn and who makes himself better. He did that in Bethlehem. He removed every reason I had to criticize him. He turned Bethlehem around. He became accountable. So I view him favorably now. He is certainly leagues ahead of his opponents.

And by sleazy I mean sleazy. The use of a look-alike is actually dishonest. Reibman should be ashamed of himself for doing that. "Maclure's" flyers are downright sophomoric. They look like they were prepared by someone in grade school.

  20. ok then im backing reibman.

  21. I'm voting Callahan but lets be real, an ET endorsement means someone, somewhere was paid some cash.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The ET was for dumping Gracedale, endorsed Ron Angle and now Johnny Casanova.

I guess that tells you how to vote.

  23. Hey Bernie-for what it's worth, can we leave Mike out of it? I know for a fact a) he's paid his debt to society; and b) he just wants to be left alone.

There's no doubt in my mind he is less-than-thrilled with Reibman's grotesque exercise is fleck-fueled narcissism. I also don't think he comments on this blog.

We all make mistakes. Mike made plenty of his, but he also had a big heart.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 11:52, You are correct. The ET feels it has an obligation to tell the people what they need to hear, as opposed to what they want to hear.

Panderers like "Maclure" or Reibman will tell people what they want to hear. After all, it is easy to say, "I love Gracedale." It is harder to tell the truth. The truth is that Gracedale is going to continue to cost us substantial sums of money.

It is hard to tell the truth, especially for a pol. Callahan does that. He was willing, for example, to argue for a single hauler trash bc it is cheaper and would be better for the citizenry. An elected official owes that to the public. He owes his best judgment. When he does give them that, he becomes a leader instead of a panderer.

Neither "Maclure" nor Reibman can ever claim to be a leader. "Maclure" claims to have led the fight for Gracedale. He actually followed the fight. He was a panderer, and told the public what it wanted to hear. That is all he or Reibman have ever done.

  25. "Efficiency on behalf of the taxpayer" REALLY? As a Bethlehem tax payer my City of Bethlehem real estate tax went from $276.68 to 535.08 since John Callahan has been in office. PLUS recycling fees have TRIPLED! Water & Sewage fees have more than DOUBLED! A 0.75 MiL increase in 2011 was called the EMS tax. This tax was to Build a new EMS Building and purchase a new Fire Engine. The taxpayers got none of these but Callahan did close a FIREHOUSE that has been there for over 35 years!
These are the facts the Mayor Callahan refuses to acknowledge.

    Bethlehem Tax Payer !

  26. Callywho admits he is arrogant to the ET. They call him on it. He hopes he mellows with age. Maybe, but for now he is an arrogant prick who should shut up an listen a few seconds instead of playing Mr. Know it all. he will falter as County Executive. This IS NOT A docile environment like BEDLAM.

Even the ET, said he is their flawed choice.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Are you saying Lamont didn't help lead the fight to save Gracedale? Do you really believe that? When Stoffa, Angle, and yourself were plotting to sell and lying to the public about Gracedale and how high our taxes will rise if the referendum passes you didn't hear Lamont, Ann, and Peg saying that the county should look for an alternate way? They were listening to the tax payers and Lamont lead the fight to save Gracedale from day one. He is the most qualified candidate for executive and the Express Times has been wrong in the past.

Lamont MacClure is the OBVIOUS choice to lead NORCO! He took a FIRM stand on Gracedale and fought to protect it from the axis of evil while Callahan told the Coalition it wasn't his fight. We the people haven't forgotten John, do the right thing on May 21, vote MacClure for Executive.

    ReplyDelete
  29. "Are you saying Lamont didn't help lead the fight to save Gracedale? Do you really believe that?"

What I am saying is that "Maclure", as he does with every issue, carefully paid attention to which way the wind was blowing, and went in that direction. He reminds me of the French General who said, "There goes my Army. I must follow it, for I am their leader."

Maclure will take people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they out to go, even if they initially complain.

  30. It says a lot about Reibman that he is trying for a comeback by working with the Lehigh Valley's latest incarnation of that scum Mike Solomon, Mike Fleck. Poor Mikey Solomon wants to be "left alone" and has "a big heart"? Puleeze! He is, and will always be a scum. As for Fleck? He is good at two things: self promotion and fleecing the rubes in the Lehigh Valley. He will eventually crash and burn, just like Solomon, and it will be due to ego and hubris, just like Mikey.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yet it is the Godless Callahan Clan that brings up Solomon's name. You guys have no shame. Voters can sense that about the aggressive and angry Mr. Callahan.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Godless Callahan Clan?

    Cuckoo.

The Saturday night trolls are out and about.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Mike Solomon has tried to stay out of the public eye. When he fess's up to being Reibman's henchman I may have a diffferent view. He went to jail. Hickey and Reibman let him take the fall for Reibman. That's a fact and everyone knows it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I presume you anonymously told this to the FBI and they are anonymously prosecuting both Hicky and Reibman. Coward.

    ReplyDelete
  35. maybe the express times can find a candidate in Staten Island to endorse after sending local jobs there and screwing local workers. That's why they endorsed Callahan, they have that in common!

  36. For people who claim it doesn't mean anything, you folks sure do an awful lot of complaining.
