More Gun Violence, This Time Near Harrisburg

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
You. Thanks for correcting me.
ReplyDelete"... give even more people guns."
ReplyDeleteYou assume no distinction between good people and evil/disturbed people. Laws place an imposition on those who follow laws. The lawless really don't care. You can't seem to tell the difference.
I understand that the more you arm people, the more likely it is they will kill each other.
ReplyDeleteI can only agree with 1 of the NRA mentions in that we protect certain groups of people and not our children.
ReplyDeleteAirports have protection - Sports Stadiums-Events, certain politicians, bars, nightclubs, casino's, government buildings, banks and I'm sure I missed a few.
I don't agree in having "Volunteer" types with guns at our schools as that is just plain stupid and asking for more shootings.
i wonder if bob mensch had an alibi today?
ReplyDeleteUntil I have more details on this crime, I will reserve judgenment.
ReplyDeleteMy concern is the Amish Mafia.
The Bishop!
Let's confiscate everyones guns
ReplyDeleteIs that why so many Swiss kill each other Bernie? Because almost every Swiss home has a military grade firearm?
ReplyDeleteAre there more shootings per captia in Wash. State or Wash. DC.?
You don't know what the fuck your talking about.
Again.
ReplyDeleteI heard that Simmons is preparing legislation to control firearms.
"You don't know what the fuck your talking about."
ReplyDeleteBut I know the fuckin' difference between your and you're. Switzerland does have a high rate of home ownership of weapons because everyone is in the militia. There is no standing army. It's a bad analogy, bt what I would expect from a moron.
"more guns, more killing." your the moron dude, your analogies fail but your name-calling is always there to fall back on.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to call someone a moron, you really should know the difference between "your" and "you're."
ReplyDeleteSuch a way with words you have Bernie!
ReplyDeleteHow many typos have you had, in lets say the last 72 hours? Oh physician heal thy self.
The deer hunting season is now over. Almost one million hunters went into the woods in Pa. In wisconsin 700,000 hunters in the woods. In wyoming 500,000 hunters in the woods. In Texas over one million in the woods. GUESS WHAT! No fatalities except deer. No humans were shot. Most of these men, women, and youth have more than one gun and many have hand guns. Some of these guns are semi-automatic guns used for hunting. Millions of adults and kids enjoying the outdoors doing what generations have done for years. Guns are part of our heritage. It's irresponsible individuals fixed on committing crimes that use these guns for ill concieved reasons. Automobiles kill people too. You can make a bomb with information garnered from the internet. Good Honest people with guns make our communities safe.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be interesting to see if these criminals used guns that were legally registered or guns that were illegally in their hands. Would you like to make a bet on which it is?
ReplyDeleteIf more guns ment more killing, the volunteer fire departments in the northern tier of the county would be awash with dead and the dying.
ReplyDeleteNo?
Don't penalize people who purchase guns legally and use them for self protection. I wouldn't want to let anyone know that I don't own a gun or have a loaded gun in my house. You might as well hang out a sign that says "come into my home and rob me, rape our women, because I have no means to defend myself my women or my property". Oh yes, I could call 911 after I'm beaten half to death. I want my gun And if someone breaks into my house I wish I had an oozie.
ReplyDeleteThis is the newest O'Hare fad, so expect him to ride it for a while.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteThe time is right for reasonable reform of the gun laws.
Bernie, my take has been that our fail is not with gun control, but with the mental health treatment in regard to the mass shootings. Registered and licensed gun owners don't seem to be the people causing these problems. To ban guns is no different than the ban on drugs, they aren't going away. I saw a statistic that 25% of people in CT with serious mental health issues are receiving no treatment. If you require a waiting period and a clearance to see if a person has mental problems, but few are identified, what's the point? The gap is in the fail of the mental health side. And to your note about more arms kill more people, what about detente? No one fired the missiles, because it was no win. And after all that, happy holidays!
ReplyDeleteRoss, I agree there are no easy answers. A kneejerk ban on guns or a kneejerk arming of the nation is no answer. I do think that there should be a ban on high capacity magazines.
ReplyDeleteIf you look at these 8 recent mass shootings, you can see that the shooter was using high capacity magazines in each incident.
http://www.vpc.org/fact_sht/VPCshootinglist.pdf
I also think there's no reason why any civilian should be armed with a 50 caliber sniper rifle, which can penetrate an inch of armor. In Mexico, I believe they are called cop killers.
But another big part of the problem is our failing mental health system.
Another point. 98% of the people with mental illness are not violent, according to David Brooks. And strict gun control laws won't prevent what has happened, or there would have been no mass killing in Norway. But i think the magazine capacity needs to be reduced so that when someone goes on a rampage, it's harder to kill as many people.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=003S8o6e-1A
There were most likely more guns per person in the 1880's than now but no mass murders. Perhaps violent vidieo games have something to do with that. As much as I hate to admit it but as a Vet, the NRA has it right....the only way to beat an armed nut is with an armed sane person.
ReplyDeleteBernie there is no treatment that corrects some of these disorders. No one can predict future behavior.
ReplyDeleteNew York Gov. states he will "do something" about taking or buying guns from owners.
ReplyDeleteBernie doesn't know the breech end from the barrel end of a smoothbore, but he knows the diff. between your and you're.
ReplyDeleteStay away from those Vol. Fire Companies. Packed with gun toting folk---- bound to be real deadly places.
( How many criminal events involved a Barrett 50 cal. In the Commonwealth Bern? )
Barack Obama has placed his VEEP in charge of the "gun control issue". You have got to be kidding. Instead of putting some hunters and fisherman on this committee to assure the government isn't rushing head first into banning what should be perfectly legal guns we have a anti gun committee to enact harmful laws that will negatively impact legal gun owners.Pelosi and Company are on the record opposing all guns. The gun industry through hunting and fishing means billions of dollars to the industry. It brings about the mangement of wildlife, generates billions for National Parks and preserves through the Pittman Robertson Act, and none of these outdoors people committ the heinous acts of these mentally ill individuals and criminals. Outdoor hunting clothing, hiking gear, etc. means billions to the economy. Guns and ammunition likewise. Biden and Company will try to neuter the industry. What a joke.
ReplyDeleteThe Republicans will make sure the Biden Committee fails in their attempt to disarm America. I am a democrat thinking of changing my registration. Any hunter that obeys the laws and truly enjoys the outdoors has got to be nuts to be a "D".
ReplyDeleteBan a single shot hyper-expensive 50 cal?
ReplyDeleteSure. It sounds good, right? No matter that they have never posed a single problem. It sounds good, that's all that matters. ( Remember the fuss about Glock and other " plastic" guns that could get past security devices? Who could forget that load of bullshit? But it sounded good, right?)
If there appears to be a problem, appear to find a solution!
A couple a days ago you were on a ban/regulate ammo kick. Keep fishing around for catchy quick fixes.
Bernie
ReplyDeletePerhaps local government leaders here will host a town hall that focuses on how we as a region can do better with our mental health treatment and options. Heard someone tell how her son needed mental health treatment and she took him to an ER where they waited three days until they left without any help rendered.
The issue is way too complex for anything except a well planned bi partisan solution.
ReplyDelete7:45
ReplyDeleteAhhh, yeah. I believe that story. Sure has the ring of credability to me.
Nice try.
I am a proud owner of a Benelli semi-automatic shotgun that was bought for me by my children(grown adults) and my loving wife for a birthday present. I use the gun for turkey hunting and it is legal in a lot of places for deer hunting. I treasure this gift. It would be illelgal to own this gun under the former guidlines put forth during the Clinton years. Gaming laws say that I may only have three shotgun shells in the gun at any time and Game Officials Have checked me in the field to make sure I was legal and within the limits set by the Game Commission. The problem with this Committee is they do not know what guns are used for hunting. Rushing to disarm America is not the answer. They should have put someone on this committee that will look out for the sportsman. Only a fraction of hunters belong to the NRA which is four million strong in membership. Piss off the real sportsmen and you will probably see a backlash at the polls against the Dems. Me included.
ReplyDeleteDo you remember the Reagan years. It was Ronald Reagan that shut down the State Mental Institutions. He also screwed the Veterans and the seniors. Reagan turned all these mentally ill people loose in society. He said if they take their medications they aren't a threat to anyone. The problem is you can't force them to take their medications. These atrocities aren't committed by the legal gun owner but we are going to pay the price for these sick acts against our defenseless children. I want a gun in my house to defend my family. I teach my kids to use the weapon and take them to the range to practice. They have attended hunter safety courses and NRA taining classes. You break into my house you better be ready to pay the consequences. They are not fanatical about guns they are prepared to defend themselves and our home.
ReplyDeleteSal doesn't know a clip from a magazine, but he knows reporting lost/stolen guns will help.
ReplyDeleteShow us the research that supports that Sal.
We have that law in Allentown and...... SURPRISE, it doesn't do shit!
ReplyDeleteEach home in Switzerland and Israel is equipped with an AUTOMATIC WEAPON.
I am curious to see what kind of gun control will end up being placed via executive order and what exactly will happen.
ReplyDeleteThe pure volume of gun/ammo sales in the last two weeks and (really the last few months) is astounding. Do you think all of these people are going to turn in their ARs and their mags and such because the government tells them too? How did that work for the war on drugs? it didnt.
Banning guns/mags will only make criminals out of normally law abiding citizens and do nothing to impact the regular criminals for whom gun laws are meaningless.
I'm gonna turn my guns tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteJust found out, Connecticut HAD an assault weapon ban in effect already. Didn't deter that situation.
ReplyDeleteWhat's needed is STRONGER enforcement, greater penalties applied to laws already on the books.
The rush to buy guns is mainly in response to encroaching liberal policies that REMOVE rights from individual citizens and attempt to put government in control of every aspect of our lives.
"Ban a single shot hyper-expensive 50 cal?
ReplyDeleteSure. It sounds good, right? No matter that they have never posed a single problem."
Must be why Mexcan drug lords call them mata policia (cop killer). It has NO legitimate use for civilians. None.
"Bernie doesn't know the breech end from the barrel end of a smoothbore"
ReplyDeleteActually, I served in the military. I'm no expert, to be sure, don't own a weapon and don't relly like them. But I have nothing against mst of the 300 million guns that are already out there in the US.
", Connecticut HAD an assault weapon ban in effect already. Didn't deter that situation."
ReplyDeleteThen Lanza's mother broke the law bc the Bushmaster is definitely an assault weapon.
The suggestion of a hearing on our dwindling mental health options is both excellent and overdue.
ReplyDeleteA small ( wealthy ) group of long range marksman enjoy target shooting the Barrett 50cal.
ReplyDeleteThat weapon has never posed a problem of any sort for American Law Enforcement.
I have no idea what your talking about in Mexico?
They have dozens of ways to kill police down there.
A single shot, long range big bore hardly figures into the mix.
But what does that matter, your simply casting about for boogie men. It's not about solutions but feeling righteous, eh?
There have been a handful if attempts to smuggle 50ties into Mexico.
ReplyDeleteThey smuggle LAWS and RPG's into Mexico too.... the challenges of a Narco-state and a counter-productive, failed " war on drugs"- drug policy in the USA.
ReplyDelete50 Cals a problem? Make em Class 3, problem solved.
All this is way besides the point.
To hell with those people struggling with mental health issues. They are just more of the 47%.
ReplyDeleteLet em buy private insurance the American way. Why should addressing mental health concerns be " shoved down our throats"?
We here in Lehigh County are going to lay off MHMR workers.
That's the ticket, yes siree Bob, that's the ticket.

We live in a nation, a government, whom secretly hands over assault weapons to Mexican drug lords to slaughter our border agents.
ReplyDeleteWe live in a nation, a government, whom secretly hands over assault weapons to foreign terrorist to slaughter our military personnel.
We live in a nation, a government, whom secretly hands over assault weapons to foreign terrorists to slaughter our foreign ambassador.
We live in a nation, this very same government, infringing on the peoples second amendment right to protect our children from nut jobs?
Be scared my friends.
Respectfully,
Eckville Press
I read yesterday that Judge Anthony in Lehigh County decried the use of semi automatic guns in society and the violence they cause. Then he sentenced two people involved in a shooting to TIME SERVED while awaiting trial!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you want to start on a real solution towards many of our gun crimes, start there.
There's still logic in Eckville!
ReplyDeleteProtect ALL of the freedoms given to us by our Constitution. Give one up, under the influence of temporary office-holding demagogues. and it's difficult to ever get it back.
Yes, be very careful. Your kitchen knife could be next to go.
More p-eople are killed by machetes than guns in Mexico, look it up.
ReplyDeleteAlso many poeople already have TEK.223 weapons, aqll ppurchased legally. So to say the boys mother had it illegally is wrong. Glad you are no longer an attorney O'Hare.
So with this "new" law on law abiding citizens are you proposing that the government take the weapons already legally purchased.
You are pissed and make a speech and want to go off half cocked with laws. That is the way your hero Stoffa hndles things at the county. This is different and you just can't solve issues with an emotional response.
There are ways to try and miniminze. Criminals and nuts don't read the gun laws.
This woman took her autistic son shooting to give him somehting to do. Mistake number one. With an increasingly irrational and violent boy in the house all weapons should have been securly locked in a gun safe. There, problem solved.
Stop the dramatics.
BY th eway 3:51 is not anonymous it is I.
ReplyDeleteThe Bishop!
There have been hearing before--- on mental health and on violence.
ReplyDeleteBunch of grandstanding and then ------- nothing.
But hey, it gives the illusion of a responce.
No Bernie. The Bushmaster is not an assult weapon.
ReplyDeleteBy definition an assult weapon is a rife/carbine, in an intermediate caliber that has the capacity to fire in full auto, controlled bursts ( three shots ) or semi-automatic, one trigger pull, one round. Select fire.
The so called semi-auto, look alike "black guns" have an entirely different receiver, no selecter switch, and hence, no ability for fully automatic/select fire.
So ya got even the most fundamental details wrong.
You can be forgiven in that the huge amount of the American public are equally ignorant.
But ya really shoulda learned that much in the service. How'd ya miss that basic information pardner?
Bottom line---- assult weapons are already banned for all intents and purposes.

I disagree. Legally, the Bushmaster was not an assault rifle under the Clinton law, but it is most definitely an assault rifle. The Bushmaster has the ability to handle high capacity magazines. Anything that does that is an assault weapon in my view. Under the Clinton law, a weapon had to have 2 of 5 different features to be considered an assault weapon. For example, a flash suppressor. So if the Bushmaster had that, it would be considered an illegal assault rifle. But it does not and a flash suppressor has little to do with what makes a weapon an assault rifle. A high round capacity, however, is right on the money. The only reason for that is to kill people, and quickly. I can't see why anyone would want that weapon for civilian use. It presents such a danger to the community that, if not an outright ban, there should be a special license for it.
ReplyDelete"Glad you are no longer an attorney O'Hare."
ReplyDeleteRespond to an argument with an argument, not personal attacks and hatred. You can do that on several other blogs.
Right. A flash suppressor or bayonet lug or pistol grip stock in the case of imports( AK-47 ) made it a Clinton "assult weapon" , minus flash hider, lug, etc. it was not an assult weapon.
ReplyDeleteYa get the silliness of that?
Pure cosmetics my man, plain and simple.
Another joke.
High capacity mags are just that. One can reasonable debate their legitamacy, but you can't define any given weapon simple by virtue of is POTENTIAL for a larger volume magazine.
You can disagree all you want..... an assult wepon has the capacity for select fire. That's the definition.
Politics ( and politically expedient word play ) aside.
Call your old Drill Instructor. He'll give you the straight skinny.

In case ur interested;
ReplyDeleteThe Bath School disaster is the name given to a murder and three associated bombings by Andrew Kehoe in Bath Township, Michigan, on May 18, 1927, which killed 38 elementary school children, two teachers, and four other adults and injured at least 58 people. Kehoe first killed his wife, set off a major explosion in a school building, and committed suicide with a third explosion. Most of the victims were children in the second to sixth grades (7–14 years of age[1]) attending the Bath Consolidated School. Their deaths constitute the deadliest mass murder in a school in United States history.[2]
The 55 year old school board treasurer, Andrew Kehoe, was angry after being defeated in the spring 1926 election for township clerk. He was thought to have planned his "murderous revenge" after that public defeat; he had a reputation for difficulty on the school board and in personal dealings. In addition, in June 1926 he was notified that his mortgage was going to be foreclosed. For much of the next year, a neighbor noticed Kehoe had stopped working on his farm and thought he might be planning suicide. During that period, Kehoe carried out steps in his plan to destroy the school and his farm by purchasing and hiding explosives.
Kehoe's wife was ill with tuberculosis, and he had stopped making mortgage payments; he was under pressure for foreclosure. Some time between May 16 and the morning of May 18, 1927, Kehoe murdered his wife by hitting her on the head. On the morning of May 18 about 8:45, he exploded incendiary devices in his house and farm buildings, setting them on fire and destroying them.
Almost simultaneously, an explosion devastated the north wing of the school building, killing many schoolchildren. Kehoe had used a timed detonator to ignite dynamite and hundreds of pounds of incendiary pyrotol, which he had secretly planted inside the school over the course of many months. As rescuers gathered at the school, Kehoe drove up, stopped, and used a rifle to detonate dynamite inside his shrapnel-filled truck, killing himself, the school superintendent, and several others nearby, as well as injuring more bystanders. During rescue efforts at the school, searchers discovered an additional 500 pounds (230 kg) of unexploded dynamite and pyrotol connected to a timing device set for the same time as the first explosions; the material was hidden throughout the basement of the south wing. Kehoe had apparently intended to blow up and destroy the entire school.

ReplyDeleteI'll assume the story is accurate. What it says is this . . . where there's a will, there's a way.
No matter what year, what devices available, ALL devices can be made lethal by deranged minds. We need to identify and monitor deranged minds, not simply eliminate devices.
"As always---- your welcome to your own view. Your not welcome to your own facts."
ReplyDeleteA more accurate description of what is actually called an assault weapon is here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Assault_Weapons_Ban
What I am saying is that, regardless of what definition you want to use, I consider any rifle or pistol that uses high capacity ammo as assault weapons. In other words, the Clinton ban had it wrong.
Well then. Bernie has his very own definition of what an assult weapon is.
ReplyDeleteLet's see how this influences the national conversation.
Never considered my Ruger 10/22 an assult weapon.
This is gonna shock a lot of the youngsters and teenage shooters at the Fire Hall.
Shit! Who knew?
Yeah.
ReplyDeleteThat and my Marlin Papoose Model 70.
Fuckin A!
Shit. Even my Daisy Red Ryder doesn't make Bernie's cut.. We're reduced to our H&R slug gun and a Wrist Rocket sling shot over at my place.
Damn, I'm going to miss those 22LR's. Think I'd better head to Walmart and get another Wrist Rocket.
Well if you can poney up $2,400 big ones, it looks like BOH will let you keep the 50 cal. Barrett.
ReplyDeleteWhat with the limited mag capacity.
But where do yo find a Gun Culb with a 2,000 yard plus range?
That and the $5.00 a round ammo cost. Damn!
Makes ya pine for the days of the Raven 32.
What the H*LL you guys talk'n about?
ReplyDeleteAll I know is, if you got one, I better get one too!
"Well then. Bernie has his very own definition of what an assult weapon is. Let's see how this influences the national conversation."
ReplyDeleteThis is not about me or your disdain for me. This is about killing people. And it is by no means my own definition.
This is what Tom Diaz said on NPR's Fresh Aire about the Bushmaster and the reason for it:
"It defined a semi-automatic assault weapon in terms of a gun that had at least two of certain features. One of them was the actual crucial feature, which is the ability to take a high capacity magazine. ... The others were ... almost decorative features that were on these guns, such as a bayonet mount, which means you could put a bayonet on the gun; a thing called a ... flash hider, which means that the flash from the barrel of the gun is less observable; a stock in the rear that could be extended or shortened. ... The requirement that you have at least two of those meant that gun manufactures could say, 'Aha, we can keep the ability to take the high capacity magazine and just knock off the rest of these bells and whistles [and] we still have essentially the same gun, ... but it's now federally legal. And that's what Bushmaster figured out. They actually rose to prominence after the 1994 semi-automatic assault weapons ban because they took off all the truly irrelevant bells and whistles and just produced a basic gun."
http://www.npr.org/2012/12/20/167694808/assault-style-weapons-in-the-civilian-market
Diaz is with the Violence Policy Center.
The Blog Mentor has been deleted. But I have learned that gun violence is apparently my fault. Instead of banning certain types of guns, the Fake Rev wants to ban me.
ReplyDelete"es - I have been in prayer. But not just for those in Newtown, but also for the world. Praying for - and against all the Bernard O'Hare's, the Ron Angle's, and all the John Stoffa's of the world, whom by their poor evil examples influence the world into a life of corruption with a passion for hate!"
And he wonders why I call him a phony.
Diaz is an anti-gun hack. An Idealogue.
ReplyDeleteHe's no better than Wayne LaPierrier, just the other side of the coin.
Fuck him. Fuck them both.
People like those two assholes virtually insure that this country can't have a truely reasonable and productive dialogue.
I truely appreciate your trying your best here BOH.
But it's a complex problem, and you'll have a steep learning curve, least you become a hack like Diaz or LaPierrier.
Your call to ban popular 22s isn't going to help you in the early stages.
Check out the Violence Policy Center on Wikipedia.
ReplyDeleteThese assholes have no credability what so ever.
Bernie,
ReplyDeleteDid a professed Christian really write those words???
As opposed to anonymous commenters.
ReplyDelete"Did a professed Christian really write those words???"
ReplyDeleteThat's one of just several reasons why I consider him a fake. A prayer against a specific person or persons is actually a curse.
The Rev is clearly a jerk as well as a fraud.
ReplyDeleteLighten up on the anon critcism bro.
90% of you people are anon.
It makes you look like a fool when you keep harping on that. Your better than that man, at least at your best you are.
I don't mind the anonymous commentary when it makes no personal attacks. If you want to call Diaz or the NRA dude a hack, your should sign your name. If you want to discuss someone's "credability," it's more credible to identify yourself. The anonymous feature on this blog does not exist so people can engage in all kinds of ad hominems, although that's what happens.
ReplyDeleteBut I don't mind someone telling me that my ideas are nonsense. Or telling another reader that his ideas are flawed. That's great.
Personally, I believe the NRA loses every argument when it comes down to facts, despite the attempt to clutter debate with references to a 1927 mass murder. That's why ATF refuses to reveal the kinds of weapons involved in homicides. It used to do that, but Congress stopped it, thanks to the NRA.
Rev Martinez did more good for people than your buddy Dowd and all his certificates ever did.
ReplyDeleteThat is the difference between real and fake, you hack.
Jack
Martinez and Dowd----- two more hacks of a different flavor. Hiding behind " come to Jesus". Makes ya want to puke!
ReplyDeleteRev. Martinez. Sorry BOH, I know how you feel about anon personal attacks, but i gotta say it....
ReplyDeletewhat a phoney sanctimonious fake.
Your buddy's an asshole Jack.
" solders just spray bullets in the direction of the enemy." Diaz
ReplyDeleteTell that to a current, it former member of the USMC.
Any current or former member of the USMC Bernie.
Then get back to us and let us know what their responce was.
Would ya do that for us. I gaurentee that it will be interesting Bernie.
I'm going to respect your wishes and not call Diaz a fucking hack.
I am a veteran and see no insult in that comment. It's called suppressive fire, and is exactly what a soldier is supposed to do in most circumstances. You'll have to look for some other basis to find an insult.
ReplyDeleteWe called it,"spray and pray".
ReplyDeleteWe called it bad training.
ReplyDeleteSuppressive fire is a specific tactical responce dude, something else entirely.
Marines don't do " spray and pray".
We called it bad training.

Marines don't do " spray and pray".
Bernie, let me pose this question? How many bullets should somebody be allowed to defend themselves? Is it 3, 5, 15 30? What is the correct number.
ReplyDeleteAnd will criminals or the government be held to this same standard? Can i assume that if my house is broken into, i could only count on the burglar to have at most 5 shells? See how ridiculous that comparison is? Gun control hampers the law abiding citizen, and does absolutely nothing to the criminal.
If somebody is breaking into my house, or is direct threat to my family or myself, i want to be as absolutely prepared as possible.
And my second point is, who do you think is buying all of these guns right now? i know the media likes to paint the picture that the purchasers are all unhinged survivalists, anti-government or as Mr. Molivinsky calls us, "guns and ammo types".
ReplyDeleteYou know where the largest growth is? Suburban women. Have you been in a gun store lately? It is packed with 1st time gun buyers, packed with people who you would never even think would look twice at a gun. It is more mainstream than you think or is acknowledged by the press. You do not have 4 million back ground checks down in November by only the fringe elements in the country.
There is a true sense of unease Bernie in this country right now and the average person is feeling it. Blame it on many things, blame it on the non functioning government we have right now that does not legislate for the center but for the extremes. Blame it on the bad economy, Blame it on the middle class slipping further and further behind while the richer continue to get richer. People are scared bernie and that is why you see the sales going up
9:54-
ReplyDeleteGood points. I'll go further to say our current president has made many citizens nervous.
He has pitted us against each other, damaged our country's financial future, hinted he'll do whatever he wants, despite Congress and the Constitution.
There is an uneasy feeling we haven't had before. The increasing purchase of weapons should not surprise anyone. It is a defensive move, no different than locking doors, hoarding food, and stashing money away.
Fear is the motivator.
Bush was a uniter, not a divider.
ReplyDeleteOboma divides us.
The Easter Bunny's riding with Santa this year.
The GOP is really a welcoming bunch. The Big Tent.
Up is down,in is out, war is peace.
Fear sells, just ask Fox News.
I'm afraid too----- of nut case right wingers.
I'll keep all my weapons also, mags too.
See you at the range. Gun control is hitting your target.
Another armed Democrat. ( Yep, we're out there.)
Typical "jarhead" response. We do everything better, including needing the Army to get us out of jams we get ourselves in.
ReplyDeleteanon 10:27 and the people they elect are why many, many people have becoem first time gun owners. They have dmeanded a cold an dangry country. That and the ascendency of Fox Noise. Hell, between the two of them an invasion by Aliens form Mars is an after thought.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes Fox News so threatening?
ReplyDeletePlease explain.
Their well documented willingness to subvert any mission they might once have had as a legitimate news organization to service the agenda of the wealthy. Ever wonder where outrageous claims find their way into the minds of the GOP? Remember that substantial % of people who gave Romney credit for catching Bin Laden? That Obama was born in Kenya? Rupert Murdoch is no friend f truth, fairness or balance
ReplyDeleteThank you, 3:03. It's just that more Americans, by far, turn to FOX for their news. What other network would you suggest?
ReplyDeleteWhat makes Fox News so threatening?
ReplyDeletePlease explain.
Perhaps, because unlike MSNB, Obama, Clinton, and Rice, Fox News did not blame the slaughter of Ambassador Stevens on a you tube video.
Respectfully,
Eckville Press
I love Fox News. As an angry older white guy it helps me shape my own history, science, math, economics and view of marriage as an Instution between a man and a women.
ReplyDeleteI esp love Sean Hannity.
I it makes me feel like a REAL American, warm, safe, amoung my own kind......that Ruppert Murdock is a great American. And that Dick Morris, what a wonderful political mind and decent fella..... Bill O'Riley saving Christmas ..... I could just go on and on....
I might suggest the BBC. But then maybe the " beeb " just doesn't quite rise to the level of intellectual excellence of Fox?

ReplyDeleteYou can take my GUN from my COLD DEAD HAND!!!!
It's sad to see such hatred from both gun control and NRAers.
ReplyDeleteCan't people carry on a debate any more without reference to "angry old white men," their hatred of "Fox news", Republicans or the tired "form my cold dead hand" refrain???
I wonder why Congress is so divided and then all I have to do is look at all the vitriol from people who are completely unwilling to actually listen to each other.
Last week a shooting only a few feet from Scott Armstrong's front stoop. Involving ASD students no less.
ReplyDeleteYet not a word from Scott?
Blog Mentor, All you care about is getting people worked up. Very young children are dead, and you stomp on their dead bodies to take a shot at Armstrong. What a disgusting piece of shit! Fuck you.
ReplyDeleteBernie, venting may your anger concerning the "mentor's" tasteless comment may feel good but don't you think it gives him some satisfaction to know he got a rise out of you?
ReplyDeleteHope you get the White Christmas that has been forecast. Shalom to all!
It might superficially, but not so deep down, he knows what a monster he's become. That's one reason why he does not sign his name. He's a coward who knows he's wrong. Once he makes up his mind that someone is his enemy, he will step all over everyone, including dead children, to get a rise. What kind of person does that? God, he has made a mockery of his own loved one's memory with his hatred. It never has anything to do with the actual issues being discussed either. It's just hate. What a bundle of joy he must be, rolling around on the floor, foaming at the mouth, with his irrational hatred and ridiculous conspiracy theories.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I would support putting an armed guard or police officer in every school.
ReplyDeleteI think as Democrats, we make a mistake when we discount that offer from the NRA.
Hey, at least they're making an attempt to enter the discussion. Good for them. And they're not wrong, I think we should have armed police officers in every school.
IN ADDITION to banning assault weapons and strengthening restrictions on firearms
I don't discount it either. But it would be costly. It costs $80k per year to pay a school resource officer. Nationwide, we're talking $8 billion per year. And what about movie theatres, shopping centers, etc.?
ReplyDelete$8 billion is nothing. We spent $800 billion on bullshit stimulus that did more harm than good. Harry Reid has a 100% rating from the NRA. Obama is protected by the best weapons on Earth. They only care about their kids and the private schools they go to. Hypocrisy.
ReplyDeleteThe Blog Mentor shows all the characteristics of a future criminal on a higher level. When his blog messages lose enough impact, the next strategy might come from a rooftop somewhere.
ReplyDeleteThink of the press coverage. "Yes, someone should have seen this coming."
That would mean soemthing if the "blog mentor" really existed somewhere other than in O'Hares fevered head.
ReplyDeleteOh he exists and refers to himself that way, as does mezzacappa.
ReplyDelete"Blog Mentor" sounds so sinister, a cyber dark magician who conjures of the deepest hatred in the core of his fellow bloggers.

ReplyDeleteYou're not safe without a GUN!
We're not safe without the ATOMIC BOMB!
On this Christmas Day I will respectfully ask Santa Claus to fast track BO's defamation lawsuit so we can finally be treated to the identity of the blog mentor after which he will really be grieving (wink wink).

ReplyDeleteIf you side with NPR, you're siding with liberal/socialists...STOP THE FUNDING...!
Let's give NPRs funding to the right wing dingalings at Fox News,
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's the ticket.

I deleted a comment that identifies the Blog Mentor. I will find out soon enough in discovery in my litigation against Mezzacappa.
ReplyDeleteWhere does that litigation stand currently Bernie?
ReplyDeleteNext court date

ReplyDeleteI am waiting for a ruling on Mezzacappa's claim that my complaint is legally insufficient. Once I get a ruling, I intend to seek sanctions against her for her failure to answer my discovery.
ReplyDeleteDid you read about the three police officers that got shot in the police station near Philly? That is proof positive that we need to put an armed police officer in every police station in America.
ReplyDeleteI like that one.
