State Reps Joe Emrick and Marcia Hahn Schedule a Debate

The Northampton-Monroe County Farm Bureau invites you to attend a "candidates' night for the 137th and 138th Legislative Districts on Monday, October 22, 2012, at 7:30 pm.

It will take place at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1422 Church Road, Pen Argyl, Pa. 18072. (if using a GPS use 1422 Delabole Road for the address).

This will feature 137th Legislative District candidates Joe Emrick (incumbent) and Joseph Capozzolo; and 138th Legislative District candidates Marcia Hahn (incumbent)and Leslie Altieri.

There was supposed to be a debate in Wind Gap last week, but only Joe Cap and Leslie Altieri showed. Emrick and Hahn told The Express Times they had given several weeks' notice of their unavailability, but Joe Cap nevertheless called Emrick a chicken.

They can argue whether the chicken or the egg should come first, or they might explain why Executive John Stoffa claims the legislature has done NOTHING to help county-owned nursing homes like Gracedale.

  1. Or they can do what all rational people do and ignore Stoffa.

  2. This title is mis-leading. The Farm Bureau scheduled this debate, not the 2 politicians. Please correct it. Thank you.

  3. Excuse me? In order to have this debate, Emrick and Hahn have to agree to the schedule. That's something that apparently was messed up in Wind Gap. The Farm Bureau is hosting the debate, but the scheduling is up to everyone. So no, I will not change my title.

  4. Emerick and Hahn blame the slate belt chamber of commerce for this. But the people in these parts know who ducked out and made the mess

  5. I honestly don't know, but do know that practically no effort was made to get the word out.

  6. Once O'Hare makes his mind up reality and facts have never got in his way. Another trait he learned from his patron Ron Angle.

  7. Hahn never said one way or the other until 1 week before. The forum was also changed once, due to the house being in session for the originally scheduled date. Governor Corbett was at Lehigh Univeristy that day, which lends me to think there was a private fundraiser that evening. Simmons/Deely was the same day as the Chamber event and it was held at an odd time, lending me to further believe that these "representatives" were servicing Corbett that evening and not their constituents.

  8. Thank you Bernie for helping to spread the word about next Monday nights debate. Hopefully all 4 of us will be in attendance and able to share with the voters and people in the community where each of us stands on the issues that most impact everyone.

  9. 3:09, You are commenting anonymously, so I attach absolutely no credibility to your statement about what Marcia Hahan may have said and when. According to an ET news account the Chamber had known for weeks that there was a conflict. If you want to contradict this, it would be helpful if you identified yourself. Are you with one of the campaigns? Are you with the Chamber?

So let's drop this and concentrate on the actual issues, shall we?

  11. Bernie..a big thank you to one of the people who made this happen..Earl Brewer..who is a member of the congregation at St. Peters ELCA church. This is a first for the church and I hope more of these types of events will be welcomed by the church members and encouraged. The church is a polling location also.

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
