Yitzhak Shamir: An Inglorious Bastard
I suppose little things like that might affect you down the road.
He resisted British rule in Israel, even emulating the IRA, until he was exiled.
Interestingly, his name means a thorn that stabs and a rock that can cut steel.
He died Saturday, and is being buried today. Michael Molovinsky has a small tribute on his blog as well.

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
The man was a piece of work and apparently tough as nails. Without men like him, Israel would not exist.
ReplyDeleteI vaguely remembered him, but had no idea that he was such a tough bastard until I talked to Molovinsky.
ReplyDeleteAnd the point is???
ReplyDeleteThe point is, if you have to ask what the point is, then odds are astronomically higher than FDAA at this time of night that you won't understand what the point is.
ReplyDeleteSo, perhaps one should ask, "what is the point of asking the point?"
Get the point?
He denied fundamental rights to the Palestinian people and should not be remembered as a righteous man. He was such an extremist, he thought that Israeli territory should encompass all of Israel, Jordan and Lebanon. He was beyond a bastard, but a threat to the stability of the region.
ReplyDeleteif Truman and the UN had not given in to the Jews than we would not have most of the problems we do in that region.
ReplyDeleteAh, there it is: The Big Lie.
ReplyDeleteu proved my point MM
ReplyDeletewe shouldn't have this problem
and you prove my point mark, if that's your name.
ReplyDelete?mark?, actually if not for israel, we would probably have more problems in the middle east. watch how those arab springs turn out.
ReplyDeleteMark Baker, if Europeans hadn't taken North America from Native Americans, we'd not have the problems we do throughout the world, let alone the western hemisphere. Shamir is George Washington without the wig and horses - and hundreds of slaves he carefully cycled in and out of abolitionist PA to avoid slavery laws after he became president and resided in Philadelphia.
ReplyDeleteIf the Arab World is so sincere about their willingness to peacefully co-exist with Israel, why is it that not ONE SINGLE Arab nation can even be bothered to play a friendly match of international football for a measley hour and a half?
ReplyDeleteIt is utterly disgraceful that Israel are forced to qualify for the prestigous FIFA World Cup by competing in the European qualification pools.
The Arabs, of course, threw Israel out of their regional football federation in the early 1970s.
"if Truman and the UN had not given in to the Jews than we would not have most of the problems we do in that region."
ReplyDeleteThe anti-Semite rears his ugly head.
And no MM, his real name is NOT Mark Baker. That would require courage.
Anon 10:08,
ReplyDeleteMy next door neighbor says he is prepared to give his house back to the Native Americans, no problem ...
... three seconds after you give yours back first, of course!
LENNY LENAPE
No whites should have to give back to the Indians until Mark Baker does first.
ReplyDeletemm 9:02,
ReplyDeleteif it were not for the jews the arabs wouldn't have anything to bitch about and we as in the USA wouldn't be playing both sides of the fence
anon 10:08,
ReplyDeletecry me a flipping river. different time, different place.. your liberal bleeding heart pumps because of George and others,
10:11,
ReplyDeleteyet another illiterate liberal dummy. again a different. Many people of the same era had the same feelings.try to remember the drunken irish and the dagos
Well, you balanced it out. In addition to hating Jews, you hate Arabs. You are certainly consistent.
ReplyDeleteBO 11:39,
ReplyDeleteso what is my name. why can't u see the truth. Is it that you have to suck up to mm and many others to retain your back of the bus position in life?
Mark, When you attack a group, as you did this morning, and don't ID yourself, that makes you an anonymous coward. But as I indicated, you made up for it by attacking another group, proving you pretty much hate everyone. I can deal with and actually respect that attitude.
ReplyDeleteBO,
ReplyDeleteglad to see you are finally coming to your senses.
Harry Truman is my HERO!
ReplyDeleteIt's simple...If you went to battle, who would you want with you. This warrior or "Sissy" BARRY OBAMA.
