Allentown Now Has 206 Police Officers
When he was running for the state house in 2008, Mike Welch cited FBI statistics revealing that a city the size of Allentown needs about 300 police officers.
I doubt that's gonna' happen.
But hey, they'll have hockey.

Bernie,
ReplyDeleteI am not sure is this case but generally these grants run out in three years and the city has to pick up the tab for the officers or fire them.
Scott Armstrong
Scott,
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you get to work and fix our schools already. You are in the perfect position to do so.
They will need a lot more.
ReplyDeleteAnd by a lot, more than the bare minimum of 300.
Dont despair find out from the T party or the MAZ of Lehigh County how to fund 96 additional police officers at 50 G's a clip. They know how to cut spending to pay for necessities and prioritize.
ReplyDeleteScott says grants run out and the city has to pick up the tab or fire them.Scott, each year at least 20 retire with the need to rehire so why would anyone need to be fired.Hope you have better logic in your new position.
ReplyDeletesorry, with the need to hire not rehire.Should have previewed.
ReplyDeleteJust shoot a couple of the bad guys dead, have the DA pass on prosecution, and 206 cops will be more than enough.
ReplyDeleteA few heads on the monument would be much more effective and much less expensive than another 100 cops.
Of course, if you really need cops, why don't you just borrow from the townships (you know, kind of in the spirit of the NIZ).
Seriously, they won't mind. They're not too busy, and they can do the easy stuff, like double parking, get the donuts, and all the other ticky tack between 7 am and 3 pm.
But, don't bother 'em after 3 pm. Because that's time and a half, and besides, they got soccer practice...
