Jerry Batch (L) and Art Murphy (R) bid adieu |
Saying it was time for somebody new, Batcha decided against seeking re-election. A teacher at Northampton Area High School with two master's degrees, he was a major proponent of the Bethlehem Township Community Center. He will be succeeded by Republican Felix "Phil" Barnard, a plant manager at Bay Insulation. He wished current and new board members luck.
Murphy, a Notre Dame University grad and accountant at Selvaggio Enterprises, was defeated in November's election by developer Martin Zawarski. Murphy credited Township staff as "hard-working" and "outstanding people."
Both Murphy and Batcha will soon re-join the ranks of the highest office in America - the office of citizen.
Kudos to the commissioner who championed the community center. Unlike the cement box known as the Palmer Community Center that bears the name of the benefactor in every conceivable location on the property, it was done right.
ReplyDeleteAgree with the above.
ReplyDeleteCommunity centers are a tremendous expense that benefit very few. Cake and circuses government is not good government.
ReplyDeletethank God and greyhound they're gone
ReplyDeleteAnon 9:27, I can tell you that both of these gentlemen were outstanding public servants who kept the taxpayers first and worked. We could use a few more like them.
ReplyDeleteI've been to the Beth Community Center twice in the past 4 weeks. It was being heavily used and is probably the best gym in the entire LV. As I circled around the indoor track, I particularly enjoyed seeing the basketball courts being used by so many kids.

ReplyDeleteAnd hundred of kids in youth basketball, thousands of people all summer in the pools, and anyone else in the township who wants to exercise or even get a room for a meeting. Get a brain.
Or outside the Township. We have to pay more, but it's a remarkable facility.
