Callahan Will Amend Flawed Post Election Campaign Finance Report

In his latest campaign finance report, Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan lists "expense reimbursements" of $404.93 and $94.80, without any further explanation. Without more detail than that, it's impossible to know whether Callahan even used the money legitimately. And even if he did, it's impossible to know whether he used the money to hire poll workers or door knockers for someone else seeking office. Basically, it defeats the whole point of requiring these reports.

In response to a complaint I filed with Northampton County Elections Registrar Dee Rumsey, she contacted Callahan about my concerns.

To his credit, he has agreed to amend his latest report.

  1. Which proves he was honest and is an honorable man. You owe Mayor Callahan an apology. You tried to smear a decent man and you lost.

why not pout over Dent's papers or Angle's. how about Stoffa's BS report?

You should be ashamed of yourself.

  2. Stoffa filed no report, so I have no idea what the hell you are talking about. I did pour over Angle's most recent finance report. In fact, it's the first one I addressed. You must have a selective memory, unless you are just stupid.

Callahan's report was inadequate, as a matter of law. He filed a report that fails to account to the public for how he spent his money. I correctly pointed out the violation and, to his credit, he has agreed to amend his report. But that does not change the fact that it was improperly filed and needs to be amended.

  4. People file reports like this all the time. You called on it, and he responded. Credit to all on this. That's a positive.

  5. Maybe, much like another Democrat superstar, former New Jersey Governor JOHN CORZINE, the Democrat Mayor of Bethlehem simply does not know where the money went?

    Completely understandable...

And don't anybody start in on Obama's buddies at Solyndra!

  6. "People file reports like this all the time."

Actually, Rich, they don't. I look at finance reports all the time. The only ones I've ever seen that are this deficient are Callahan's and a report filed by Pawlowski two years ago. I complained about that one, too, and it was amended. That's how we learned that he scoured homeless shelters on election day to pull out petty criminals to knock on the doors of unsuspecting Allentown residents.

  7. Simple issue of electronic reporting and what columns do and do not transfer. This is a non issue and will be taken care of.

  11. Seamus,

Tell us all about that loaded handgun that one of the city employees had at City Hall. And don't leave out the cover up part.

    Yours truly,

    Residents of Bethlehem
