“It is fitting that an Army Reserve Center located in the Lehigh Valley be named for a courageous local soldier who paid the ultimate price defending our nation,” Rep. Dent said. “Sergeant Moyer was a true hero and inspiration to us all. Memorializing this remarkable woman will ensure she continues to inspire future generations of citizen soldiers.”
Below is the text of Dent's letter:

Dear Commander Waff:
On March 3, 2007, my constituent US Army Sergeant Ashly Lynn Moyer gave the last full measure of devotion for our nation as she fought and died in Iraq. In tribute to her valor, service, and ultimate sacrifice, it is an honor and privilege to request that the United States Army Reserve Center (USARC) in Forks Township be named in memory of Sgt. Moyer.
The story of Sgt. Ashly Moyer’s bravery began when she enlisted in the United States Army Reserves in September of 2003 and completed One Station Unit Training to become a member of the 367th Military Police Company in Horsham, Pennsylvania. That assignment led to her deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. At her request for conditional release to join the Active Duty, Sgt. Moyer was ordered to the 630th Military Police Company in Bamberg, Germany. Her unit was then ordered to deploy in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in Baghdad, where Sgt. Moyer was killed in action by hostile fire when her Humvee was destroyed by an enemy improvised explosive device.
Sgt. Moyer was interned March 16, 2007, at Arlington National Cemetery, and her family – themselves steeped in fine military tradition with her Marine grandfather and father having served in the Korean and Viet Nam wars – accepted with proud but grieving hearts Ashly’s Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Army Achievement Medal (with one Oak Leaf Cluster), and the Combat Action Badge. The Lehigh Valley has embraced the Moyer family and the personal courage and noble actions of Sgt. Moyer, and to have her memory, legacy, and name live on through the United States Army Reserve Center in Forks Township holds meaning for all of us beyond that last full measure.
Thank you for your close and careful consideration of this request that is a fitting tribute to Sgt. Moyer’s bravery and sacrifice.
With best wishes,
Sincerely,
Charles W. Dent

YES! YES! YES! This is a woderful idea to honor a wondderful young woman. The Moyers have done much good in the community in memory of their daughter (scholarships etc) and I could not think of anyone better to have that honor!
DITTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like a good idea and feels good right up Charlie's alley. Now can Charlie please try and help create some jobs and maybe actually add something to the medicare argument.

Some of your readers might also want to know of the annual Ashly's Race for Freedom, which raises money for Lehigh Valley Blue Star Mothers, an organization that supports our troops. A portion of the money also goes to scholarships for students graduating from Emmaus High School (Ashly's alma mater).
I think the race usually occurs near Labor Day in the Allentown Parkway. There is a 5K competitive running race and also a 5k walk/fun run.
Perhaps one of your other readers can provide more specifics on this year's race. Overall, it's a great way to enjoy the outdoors and support the troops.
Perfectly appropriate.
On Memorial day, Whitehall renamed 7th Street, Jesse Reed Way in memory of another fallen hero. The street is decorated with banners for Mr.Reed and Vetrans.
Both are an appropriate tribute and I support the renaming of the Reserve Center as well.
A big Thnak You to all our Vets.
This is a great idea... Both of our Senators are backing it and we should back it...b
"I think the race usually occurs near Labor Day in the Allentown Parkway. There is a 5K competitive running race and also a 5k walk/fun run. "
I'll be ready for that this year.
Who will be rolling you O'Hare?
I know. Hey, I started walking a few weeks ago and have kept it up. If I continue, I'll be ready for a 5k (to run, not race) by the end of July. We shall see.
When I get the particulars for the 5 K I will forward them to you Bernie. Her Mom is part of our BSM group and the LVMAC , who are sponsoring this year
Good luck with your 5k program! You can do it.
I walked 2 miles today. If I can continue, I'll be able to do this. It won't be pretty, but it will be fun.
This is a great tribute to a great hero.
