Would You Like to Watch Three BMs?

Mike Schlossberg helps produce Tony Iannelli's controversial yet popular Business Matters show, which airs Mondays, 8PM on WFMZ-TV69. Tony usually tapes several shows back-to-back. Last time he did that, I got there early and sat in the peanut gallery, booing and cheering. The Northampton County Bulldog became part of the live audience, too.

Business Matters is now active seeking a live audience for its next taping session on Wednesday, January 12, between 9:15 - 11:30 AM. The three shows will cover:

1) Medical Malpractice & Tort Reform
2) Is WikiLeaks a Good Thing for America?
3) Should Pennsylvania Liquor Stores by Privatized?

I'll be there. I want to steal another WFMZ jacket. If you'd like to participate in the audience, email Mike Schlossberg, mikes@lehighvalleychamber.org.

  1. Good headline. Watching 3 of these shows is like watching three BMs (bowel movements)! The show has gone downhill since they let that lib allentown councilman Shlossburg on.

Tony Ianelli and the Lehigh Valley Chamber have no credibility on any type of "Business Matters".

If they can't come out against the obvious, anti-business legislation that was passed in Allentown last year (EIT increase; only union workers on city projects, etc), they stand for NOTHING.

I can only hope that Chamber members - and prospective members - continue to wake-up to this fact and drop or avoid the Chamber. Perhaps after a few more pay cuts at the Chamber those in charge will see the light.

The Chamber should be there to speak up for small business - not to shill for local politicians.

  3. Patrick, Then go there and give Tony a piece of your mind. I agree with you about EIT and the the PLA in A-town. Both pieces of legislation just drive people and business away. So go there, bring signs, and boo Tony and Mike. It's good television and good for democracy.

I understand your suggestion of actively protesting the Chamber and its leaders for the positions the Chamber takes. However, I prefer to simply boycott the Chamber and anything related to it since that route doesn't cost me anything in terms of my time.

I hope others will take either of the above approaches or one of their own to let the chamber know they are on the wrong path.

The Chamber is currently broken. If the Chamber can't be fixed - or those running it don't want to change - it deserves to be swept away.

That's Tea Party code for "I'd rather bitch and moan and let other people grapple with the hard stuff." We've come to expact that from the Ditto Heads and Beck types.

  7. The problem with Business Matters is it presents EVERYONE in such an unflattering light.

Tony wears shirts too small. He reminds me of the Chris Farley "Big Man in a Little Shirt...."

The stools make the overweight guests appear even more unhealthy and make every guest fidget to find a comfortable way to sit while the camera is on.

Even Eve Tannery didn't look good.

Guest have to look 180 degrees to see each other.

The whole presentation of the show is awkward. Good topics and interesting, but it could be improved.

    Uh, yeah.

To the post at hand, I guess it would make more sense if I doubled the audience by showing up and making it appear as though the Chamber has some relevance.

To the larger point, I'm glad that you feel that the Tea Party isn't doing anything. Maybe you missed the changing of the guard on Wednesday, but the new Congress looks much more like the Tea Party than the old one. That didn't happen by accident.

So irrelevant that you call it the "Chamber" (their self-identified name) and feel compelled to encourge people to boycott it. Why boycott that which is irrelevant?

Well, you are right. The Tea Party seems to have mastered the art of the closed door process. In Norco, they violate the Sunshine Law in selecting leadership (though that blew up, so I guess the Tea Party is ineffective) and in Congress, Boehner is already backpeddling about some of his pledge to do legislation in public and not behind closed doors. So congrats on your victories. I'm sure you are proud of your Tea Party-elected leadership. 2 years from now, the Tea Party will have gone the way of the crazy left-wing activists that fell for the cult of Obama personality. All that will remain are the sensible people who can't stand the hard right or the hard left.

  10. The Iannelli show is nothing more than a vanity piece. It's connection with business is ephemeral at best.

An overstaffed, expensive operation that has done really nothing to enhance anything in the Lehigh Valley, except their own pay checks and egos. It is one of those 10 or so groups that wants to take credit every time a doggie stand hires another guy or some tailor opens a storefront.

Frankly, who cares. The businesses are paying the high dues and if they are happy with that, more power to them. They do have their "left hand each other awards" luncheons. Makes one think that the "private sector" isn't all that sharp if it wastes money on this nonsense thinking It means anything.

Now the chamber has operatives serving in local government(which I think is wrong). They even have embraced the alternative lifestyle groups with guys like Schlosberg.

But again it is their deal, the holding public office part is what bothers me. It is no different than a union business agent holding an office. You know there would be screaming if that happened.

  11. Tony bankrupted the ADIDA when he was the Director and he has bankrupted the Chamber. As long as there are "Community leaders" willing to pay for his execsses( reference the recent LVEDC bribe) he will continue to feed at the trough of our money..

  12. So why not go to the show and give Tony a piece of your mind? Maybe he'd even schedule a show on the Chamber.

Michael Schlossberg's sexual preference is his own business and should be irrelevant to all of us, but he happens to be straight. He even married over the summer. You tried waging this whisper campaign against him when he was running and it failed. I think you need to gove it a rest.

  15. Will there be metal detectors at the door? They could borrow a dozen from Amazon! They laid off over a thousand "Temp to Hires" I would like to ask Tony how he stands on that charade.

Once again, you point that the tea party had something to do with some kind of closed door meeting that took place in NORCO.... AGAIN, I state to you- the tea party is NOT a political party- we are a non-profit, educational association. 1. Sunshine law doesn't apply to us. 2. We have don't endorse candidates. 3.If you feel sunshine law was violated, I am sure that you have legal recourse that you can take. I would love to see you try to take such recourse against the 'tea party'
