Gracedale's Three Amigos

Over the weekend, three "Don't Sell Gracedale" signs sprouted in Nazareth. That's one for each of the Council members opposed to a sale or lease. One sign is located right outside the Gracedale complex. The other two, which decorate a Nazareth cemetery, might be just a tad too late to matter much to its subterranean hosts.

Who are Gracedale's three amigos?

1. Union-friendly Lamont McClure. His district includes Nazareth, home of Gracedale workers.

2. Ann McHale. She's previously stated that her nose tells her the difference between most nursing homes and Gracedale. Having a rather prominet proboscis myself, I make it a point never to argue with anyone's nose.

3. Peg Ferraro. She's a retired Nazareth teacher whose friends and family all hail from Nazareth. They've peppered her with complaints about closing the facility, even though that's not happening.

On Thursday might, Peg was the voice of reason and of compromise. She suggested a minor tax increase, accompanied by concessions in benefits from the unions at Gracedale and big changes in management.

"We're all in this together," she said.

And she's right. Will it happen? I'm betting No.

  1. Also the truth about the pension money. The fact is the fund was doing great up till two years ago. However, the fund is on the way back and is actually doing better than most. People are not supposed to know that, it messes up the plan. The screams over the terrible "pensions" are a red herring by the Angle/Stoffa gang to destroy the Home. Gee, will Stoffa's pension suffer? Maybe he should have one of his household public pensions returned to the County. Never happen. Not with old," do as I say not as I do" Stoffa.

Simple answer, some givebacks by the unions, money from the bloated cash reserves that Angle thinks is his personal bank and tell the Stoffa gang to suck it up and find another million. Maybe no more caviar lunches for the prisoners he sends to nice digs in other counties at top prices. There are a few hallwalkers he could cut to show good faith, like his old pal Harp, who is still is a man in search of something constructive to do. By the way, when Harp leaves does he qualify for a Northampton County taxpayer pension over and above his other public pension, you betcha.

So there are solutions but folks must realize Angle/Stoffa don't want solutions. The plan was always in Stoffa's second term with a compliant Council to dump Gracedale.

I agree the dye is cast. Sadly it is all based on a big lie. Also known as the 'Big Con".

  2. Your post is a "big con" and lie because you obviously don't know anything about pensions plans moron. Looking for votes perhaps in next years' elections?

  3. I particuliarly like the misinformation about prisoners whooping it up on caviar. On Thursday nigt, McClure made a few jabs at them, joined by union hack Justice. They apparently feel our inmate population is some form of subhuman who don't deserve tyo be treated decently. Very strange thinking from a union rep and a supposed Democrat.

As for Mr. Harp, he's certainly no hallwalker. And unless I am mistaken, he would not qualify for a county pension unless he were here for 8 years.

Lot of vitriol aimed at Stoffa, jail inmates, Tom Harp, hallwalkers and Angle. Hard to believe a person with this much hate gives one shit about Gracedale's residents.

  6. Again, peg makes alot of sense here..She made sense last year when she suggested a small tax hike to avoid this self created crisis we are looking at..Two of the Dems at the meeting last week, Jerry Seyfried and Charles in charge Detinger voted against a tax increase last year and that makes them culpable in regard to this issue..With a moderate increase then and a moderate increase now plus a use of some of the cash reserve monies this could have been avoided..Also if most of those union folks wouldn't have sat on their butts in the past election and gotten out and worked for some candidates who support Gracedale they wouldn't be in this predicament...

  7. Wait, no one heard theirry say anything yet. What is her stance?

  8. Barb has previously expressed concern about the inceasing costs at Gracedale.

  9. Peg makes no sense and has a lot of nerve proposing still higher taxes to cover her's and councils' mismanagement of this costly money pit. She's proposed nothing more than applying a band aid to cancer. More of the same incompetence she and her ilk have demonstrated over many years to get us into this deep of a hole. peg wants to keep digging and wants tax payers to pay for - again. Hey Peg, how about you pay my portion of YOUR f-ing increase! She's Marie Antoinette with a marginally legal trailer on her property. She hates taxpayers. Her actions have consistently shown this. The arrogance of lifetime pension sloppers like Peg is infuriating. A modest tax increase. F you.

  10. 9:18 is right on the mark. Mild mannered Peg Ferraro should get the profile in courage award. A modest tax increase with a focus on increasing revenues at gracedale is a bold but reasonable stance.

The sheriff's sale list isnt long because of county tax bills. The school districts and other tax bodies will continue their increases regardless of what the County does.

As for the ever courageous one, he doesnt have the cojones to propose a 1 mill tax increase, oh excuse me, that shocking 20% per cent increase in taxes amounting to 50 bucks or so for the average homeowner.

Funny, the self delusional wolf protecting the elderly, sheriff's sale list in hand. Traffic in the misery of others? No way the fearless protector of the downtrodden can always rent the former home owners their home for a compassionate rate once he buys their homes at sheriff's sale.

  11. Thierry's stance? Laughable. She looks to the great helmsman for guidance. A mere cypher.

  12. All the assholes who think $50 is nothing can pay my $50. You have no clue how badly many of us are hurting out here. You just spend and take and spend and take. The issue, meanwhile, isn't so much the $50 that Peg Ferraro and her heartless ilk want us to pay for her inefficient charity. It's refusing to address the problem. It's refusing to lead instead of continuing to take and take and take. She's a heartless taker who doesn't care about taxpayers who are struggling to pay bills after having lost their jobs.

  13. People, enough already. You keep debating the tax increase Stoffa "claims" is needed.

It is bullshit. The fact is you don't even need a tax increase. if there was to be one you could have a 5% increase at most and solve many problems.

This is a propaganda blog pushing a bullshit agenda.

  14. Yeah, It's hard to imagine why people don't take your anonymous rants seriously.

  15. Anon 8:48 is right. The alleged tax increase Mr. Stoffa is demanding is inflated far over and above what is necessary.

Those who vote to destroy Gracedale will pay a price in the elections. Their theme of prisoners over the elderly won't ring well with many.

  16. Neither will the themes of a county councilman (McClure) who misses three mettings in a row, the result of which is that he knows nothing about GASB 54 and the dramatic effect it will have on the County's budgetary reserve. Oopsie.

    Go to meetings, Lamont.

  17. GASB 54, is a "Straw Dog" and just another distraction from the reality of the situation. Not everyone drinks the bullshit flavored koolaide of Angle/Stoffa associates. You do but not the informed sane folk.
