Is Mat Benol a Credible Candidate?

I'll immediately concede that LV Congressional candidate Mat Benol is a likable guy. Even I like him, and I'm a miserable bastard. But is he really a credible candidate?

A search of the FEC database reveals he's filed neither a statement of organization nor a statement of candidacy. That means that, with just 30 days left before the primary, Benol has failed to meet the$5,000 threshold to trigger FEC disclosure requirements.

Benol certainly should be lauded for stepping up and giving Republicans a choice in the Congressional race. He claims to be a “principled conservative” who supports a “limited government resolution.”

Apparently, he supports limited campaigning, too.

It is a good thing for Callahan and Benol that Carlie Dent is not running.

He is more credible than you! But then who isn't!

I smell another Scott Ott. No money. Lots of votes.

The really sad psychology I see this year is that when the tea party's favorite candidate raises very little money, they assume that the more popular and experienced candidate MUST be crooked to have people donate money to his campaign. It is not that the mainstream candidate is crooked they have experience and name recognitin nor is it that Tea party candidates are not good people, they are in experienced and niave, they need to start at the local level and work their way up...like any other ambition you need to learn it fromt he ground up.

while i agree that the incumbent is more experienced in campaign financing, and has name recognition- i do not agree that you MUST start at the ground up. I think alot of the races have told us that in recent months.

There's no shame in being new at something. HOW many elections did Abraham Lincoln lose before he won one? Generally, though, people who've never been involved in politics at ALL don't win elections - because politics is a PROCESS. In order to be successful at it, you need to know how it's done - and sometimes, that takes a couple of tries. Mat Benol IS a great guy, and I applaud him for having the courage to enter the political arena at ANY level - but Congress is a pretty high level to aspire to during a first try. But it's important to remember that experience and support don't necessarily make one a BAD candidate, either....

It's not that Mat is new. It's that his campaign is undeveloped.
