With no discussion, Northampton County Council has just unanimously approved the appointment of Robert J. Myers as the new Supervisor of Corrections. His starting salary will be $77,307.
During yesterday's personnel committee meeting, Meyers shared his vision for corrections in Northampton County, and it's one aimed at reducing recidivism. He started as a corrections officer in 1980.

Did he get a letter from Stoffa allowing him to go back to his career service job when he wants to?

I do not know. I do know that is the advice Jerry Seyfried gave him at the personnel committee, and myers indicated then that he would take it. I did not speak to anyone in the admin but they were nodding their heads when jerry spoke as though this was no problem for them. So I think Myers got that letter today.

So far as I know, the position has been open for some time.
Hopefully we will find out for sure if he has a get back your job free card. That should really be disallowed.
So if he does a terrible job as Director he can go back and continue to do a terrible job in protected career service.
If you take a cabinet job you should not have some bs get your old job back card.
Where is Angle and his rant on the "real world" in the private sector.
This is the real world. This was written into the career service regulations bc of abuses that occurred in the private sector, where union workers would be "promoted" so they could be fired.
Permitting this practice enables an exec to appoint someone from the career services ranks to a position usually reserved for political hacks. I'm sure Mr. Myers, a professional, does not want to e subjected to the whims of assholes who want him to give $ to campaigns or become a member of this or that party. And Stoffa would prefer someone who can do the job.
This protection enables both the exec and career service employee to get what they want. We, the taxpayers, benefit. You, the political hack, can whine.
Why does the Corrections Director make more than the Executive and the Controller?
The Exec and Controller are elected officials and their salaries are much lower than they should be. Just about every cabinet official is paid more.
So by your reasoning the other Cabinet heads who were not long time career service folks are incompetent political hacks, interesting.
Let me guess, not in the case of the Stoffa posse.
It is still wrong. It continues to perpetuate the bland bureacratic mindset that lifetime civil servents adopt.
Either jump in the game or stay in your safe anonymous world like the rest of us anonymous folk.
If it were up to me, I'd professionalize as much of the county as possible and eliminate all the patronage jobs designed to provide homes to losers like you.
We could save a lot of money if everyone's salaries were adjusted in relation to the Controller's and executive's salaries, a lot of money. FIrst rule is that no one can make more than the Executive. McClure is on that. Resolution time.
lthough it might be politically popular, that kind of rule would guarantee mediocrity. It would invite the hacks that Stoffa has successfully eluded.
This is the most mediocre cabinet the County ever had. Might as well start now.
I'm not against giving Council real salaries too. It might attract some competent professional experienced educated people interested in giving the County their talents in exchange for "real" extra income.
Maybe it would also attract some competent Executives.
What is Myers educational background?
Myers graduated cum laude in 1978 from Indiana University of Pa with a BA in Criminal Justice. He has been empolyed at the county jail since 1980.
