Lehigh County's Citizens on Patrol!
Eight weekly classes will be conducted between Tuesday, September 22, and Thursday, November 12, between 7 and 9 PM. They'll take place in the Public Hearing Room on the first floor of the Lehigh County Government Center, 17 S. 7th Street, Allentown, PA 18101. Parking will be available in the Lehigh County employee parking deck.
Topics will include drug investigations, gang awareness, dirty bloggers, DUI and criminal scene investigations. The goal of the 8-week course is to promote understanding between police and the community. By becoming familiar with policing practices, participants will be better able to protect themselves and their neighbors.
Registration forms are available on-line at www.lehighcounty.org or by calling Dan McNeill, Manager of Regional Partnerships, at 610-782-3567. There is no fee associated with this program, but registration is limited to 85. Criminal background checks will be completed for each applicant. Acceptance letters will be mailed after the 15th of August.

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
Thanks Bernie,

Anon 12:53,
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you and to LC for this program.
Fr. Alex,
They've got an APB out on me.
Sounds corny
ReplyDeleteDo golf carts and funny hats come free with the workshop??
ReplyDeleteI would like to know what the aluni of the first 2 Citizen's Police acadmy thought of the program, and if they now are better prepared to help their neighbors. Or, are they simply trying to protect themselves FROM their neighbors?
I'd rather Allentown police spend this "academy" time walking around downtown instead of teaching retirees tricks of their trade. That would go a lot further towards building a relationship b/t the community and the police.
Do we get tasers?
ReplyDeleteMomma,
ReplyDeleteMy husband "graduated" from the first class and he really enjoyed it. His take on it was that the program is very worthwhile if for no other reason than to make citizens more aware of what to look for in their neighborhoods and how to deal with situations when you find them.
Bottom Line: He thought it was time well spent for him and for our neighborhood group.
I think this is wonderful! It sounds like so far the academy has been successful as well. I do hope they're running in depth background checks on candidates though.
ReplyDeleteWho is Dan McNeil, his name sounds familiar.
ReplyDeleteleary of compnies posted here regarding background checks. Kara said... recomendation is a scam compnay that does not provide accurate background checks. Look for a legitimate compnay that can tell you exactly what you are searchging.
