Morning Call Misses a Call

A thoughtful and well-written Morning Call editorial today endorses Lenny Zito, Craig Dally and Sam Murray for the Northampton County bench. But the headline, "Stoffa Deserves Renomination," suggests the paper is actually endorsing Northampton County Executive John Stoffa's reeelection. Perhaps the paper should have thought twice, or even three times, before decimating its copy desk.

On the bright side, we now know the paper will be endorsing John Stoffa.

Update: The print edition is correct, but the online edition is worng.

  1. A final love note from Kranzley to his friend Stoffa. Yawn.

  2. They got it correct in the print version and did endorse Stoffa in the print version.

  3. Charles! should be the D's candidate for County Executive. He is smart, tough, faithful and hard working.

  4. Bernie, whether they love you or hate you, I want to commend you for posting the things you do. The videos are great. We Norco hillbillies are being dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st Century by you and I like it. The more sunshine you let in, the less the mold grows.

  7. I don't get "renomination." Is that the right term? Didn't he nominate himself? Don't they mean "re-election"? Maybe they shouldn't have decimated the editors either.

  8. Nice, slightly inaccurate tribute to Ann in the Express, I don't know how much of the $20,000 she had to pay to get it though.

  9. Hello! It's a renomination! He has to run against the Republicans. It's a renomination to the Democratic Party. We Republicans are still here! Hello!

  10. Bernie continues the minute-by minute coverage of the epic struggle between the Bethlehem barmaid and the farmer, both one generation removed from picking potatoes barefoot in Czechoslovakia.

  11. I am proud to be half Slovak and I think it's great that we have two Slovak candidates. Slovaks were repressed under Magyar rule for 1000 years and suffered from low literacy levels in Europe, pushing their second generation American children into industrial and farming jobs. Unlike the Irish, which ironically both candidates married into, Slovak-Americans don't tend to seek leadership positions. They should both be commended for breaking out of the mold.

  12. Agree with Annon 9:46, a final gift from his buttbuddy Kranzley with encourement from sponser Republican $$ man Jack Bradt. Considering Stoffa wants to give $$$ to the Health Department not Human Services, he is probavly the worst person to have in the coming Human Service crisies.

We don't need the problems he brought to Lehigh County.

  13. Congrats Sam on the endorsement. Well deserved.

  14. Charles ! is going to get more votes than Stoffa in the Primary despite the fact that he will have three more opponents than Stoffa. Charles! vote totals will make him head of the Democratic Party locally, and Stoffa will continue to be weak.

  15. I thought Charles was running for county council, not head of the Democratic party. Silly me.

  16. Beenie, it was you who introduce the Stoffa and Friend after he wins will try and dump Joe Long as Party Chair. You will find that this will be easier said than done.

  17. Anything worth doing requires an effort. I'm up for it. I'm all for returning the local party to the basic Democratic principles that made it great, not the distorted machine for insiders that Long has created. And I will have help.

More about the new Democrats after the election.

  18. First time the Morning Call has stuck its nose in a Democratic County Executive Primary endorsement, and it goes for Stoffa. Surprise, Surprise.

Based on the writings of Kranzley, White and Assad; Stoffa must list them as in-kind campaign contributions.

I sincerely hope that you are not attempting to compare the vote count of a “pick one” to a "pick five” vote count. It is a truly apples to oranges comparison. However, I understand that you wish to use the fruit salad logic to promote your buddy Charles! A more accurate comparison might be to compare Charles!’s numbers to the numbers of the late, great Wayne Grube. Mr. Grube for many years was the top vote getter in the “pick five” category. I could be mistaken, but I don’t recall Mr. Grube declaring himself “head of the party” because of his vote counts.
