Courthouse Whispers

Are you up for some irresponsible gossip? Why have a blog if I can't report some of the interesting rumors circulating in the courthouse every day?

Rumor 1: Northampton County Council member Lamont McClure is running for county exec. Apparently, someone hired political consultant Scissorhands Severson to do a poll and word leaked out. This has reportedly infuriated Council Prez Ann McHale, who along with Reibman pal Ron Heckman, plans to run for the job. McHale confronted McClure right before a council meeting, but he refused to discuss it with her in front of everyone.

Rumor 2: Some Northampton County Democrats are bucking the trend and changing their party registration to Republican. These are lawyers who would like to be among the three new judges selected by voters next year. Their thinking is that, if they change party registration, they can at least get on the ballot as Republicans. I have visited voter registration twice since the election, but a lot of the party switches are not yet in the system.

    99.9 % said they thouyght McClure was related to "McGruff" the Crime Dog. The .01% said they would vote for a potted plant if it were on the ballot.

    So, there may be a crowded field of Democrats running for County Exec. Any idea which Republicans may run?

    Rs don't really matter in NC. The few who've gained office are all Democrat-lite to solid RINO. Can you say, "sacrificial lamb?"

    Thanks for the info I have supported McClure in his past endeavors and would support him again if this turns out to be true. I haven't heard this rumor but having known McClure over the years I am sure he would make a Fine Executive. I hope this turns out to be true and not another one of your attempts at attacking him.

    Now would be the time for some real experience in the County. Given the challanges the County faces. We need a solid plan. I just hope it is someone who knows what the Hell is going on and can understand how things work in County government and not just be able to talk about it.

    How long has McClure been in County Government.

    Why would it matter what party the lawyers who are running for judge are in? Judges cross file and run on both tickets. People do not care what party a judge is in.

    Look at Lehigh County last year when Dantos and Varrichio won nominations on both tickets. Dantos was the top vote getter on both sides.

    A judicial election is all about name recognition and has little to do with party affiliation.

    Angle was only on council for 2 years when he first ran for County Exec. when Reibman kicked his butt. I say first time because the secret Ohare is hiding is Ron is getting ready for another run for Exec. Ohare wants to get everyone else out so when he announces Ron is running again he can beat up all the others. I only hope Ron is paying to be the communication guy for his campaign.
    By the way McClure has been on council for 3 years one year more than Ron when he first ran and another difference you often point out McClure is usually on the winning side of the votes.

    This is McClure's third year on council. You are right. Plus he tried twice and failed, so he has an interest in county government. That's not my argument.

    I support John Stoffa for county executive. He is a good man for whom integrity and open government matter. I would support John over Ron or anyone else. Angle has publicly denied his interest a few times.

    Ron and I are good friends, true, but Stoffa belongs there. His jopb has just started.

    So Bernie, Just so everyone is clear. The people who may be running for County Esecutive next year are: Angle pal, John Stoffa; Morganelli pal, LaMont McClure; Reibman pal, Ron Heckman; Boscola pal, Ann McHale; and of course last but certanily least O'Hare pal, Ron Angle.

    That about sums up your little thread doesn't it.
