The Morning Call has joined The Express Times in endorsing Ron Angle's suggestion that Patti Grube be named to fill her husband's remaining year on Northampton County Council. "This strong woman says she would serve to further honor Mr. Grube and would not seek election to a full term. That solves the contentious matter of giving an appointee a leg-up in the next election. She also says she won't accept an appointment without the full support of both Republicans and Democrats on council, so this contentious group needs to come together on this fitting gesture by Dec. 11."
The Morning Call, Express Times and Ron Angle all agree.
Poor Patti Grube doesn't have a prayer.

*** UPDATE *** November 20, 2008
I have submitted my application for appointment to the vacant seat on Northampton County Council. Council will meet with all applicants on their next Council meeting on 12-04-08 at 6:30 p.m. Hope to see you there!!!
Mark H. Schwartz
ABF!!!
Anyone But Fleck!!!!
Mr. Schwartz, I doubt council will select you bc you intend to run next year, but am glad to hear of your interest. Things are bad.
Mr. Schwartz's esume says he is a state employee. is he subject to the hatch act?
Schwartz would have a better chance if he had a relative on council already.
The Hatch Act applies to employees and officials paid with Federal funds.
"The Hatch Act applies to employees and officials paid with Federal funds."
yes, and many state employees jobs are funded, in whole or in part, by federal money. in the alternative, any government official who has influence over the disposition of federal funds is also subject to the hatch act.
so, is mr. schwartz subject to the hatch act?
I suspect Schwartz will get a determination. The Hatch Act even applies to local government employees who administer feederal programs.
I did not answer the question bc I cannot answer the question, but assume Schwartz will get a determination. Thanks for bringing this to his attention.
Spike I agree with you. And let's hope someone from the West Ward steps up and runs against him in the City council race next year. I canot believe he is actually going to run. Open the door to the consultants and let the perks start rolling again. He needs to keep his job at Boscov's. Have they seen any good in him? any promotions? Gee they are in trouble why not promote him to a management position so he can tell them what they do wrong. Oh let me stop, I can't think about this anymore.
I have the comment you deleted, but it will stay that way. Would you identify yourself?
The Hatch Act is far more overreaching than some think. It only applies if someone reports it. Thats what happened to Heckman. Both Stoffa and Bradt ran for office while Directors but since no one reported them, they went under the radar. When Heckman ran someone called the Feds.
I believe you will see a lot more reporting of people from now on. Even a very jagged line of funding from the Feds can throw you out.
I wish Mark Schwartz luck. I agree with Mr. O'Hare. Any questioning by Council might be used more to discredit his future run for office, rather than fully evaluate him for this appointment.
I, although interested in serving our great county, have decided to NOT submit my letter of interest. I rather my qualifications be decided by our citizens in an election, than some members who reside on council. Recent past appointments have 'harmed' our council's credibility, and I will not dishonor Mr. Grube's seat with what I predict to be a bitter appointment process.
Sincerely,
