Sultana Is Definitely Challenging Boscola in Pa. Senate Primary

Earlier this month, I suggested both here and here, that former Easton City Council member Taiba Sultana would primary State Senator Lisa Boscola. Rich Wilkins was the first to make that prediction and he's right. Sultana sent a weekend email exploiting the homicide of Alex Pretti less than 24 hours after his death to dun supporters. Thursday, she sent another mass email for funds, announcing that she's running for state senate.

The header of this email would lead you to believe that she is running for the state house again.

She's apparently unaware that the Pa. House and Pa. Senate are two different bodies of a bicameral legislature. She does make clear, however, that she's running for the state senate.

She claims to need money because she's finalizing a campaign finance report due within the next 48 hours. Her year-end report is due on February 2, not within 48 hours. Also, that report would include contributions made through the end of the year, not donations made now. So her fundraising letter is deceptive, as is the case with most email requests for money from candidates.

My sole question is whether Boscola can defeat Sultana by a wider margin than State Rep. Freeman did when Sultana promaried him with an ugly race full of negative attacks. Freeman got 77.4% of the vote in that primary. Boscola should win by a similar margin.

  1. Taiba is the gift that keeps on giving for your blog. I am sure that many varying degrees of slash and burn commentary will drench this column and keep everyone tuned in to laugh or be in shock at her brash and amusing false claims to fame.

  2. She has no chance just as she had no chance against Bob Freeman and Sal Panto. Why does she run against popular and respected pols? And when will she realize that portraying herself as a victim of the system just doesn’t cut it with voters?

  3. Hi Bernie and readers,

Thanks for the update on the Democrat challenge to Boscola. You always provide the best heads up about what’s important here in the Lehigh Valley.

Here's a quick check in from her Republican challenger: I’ve been building since November, still very grassroots, cultivating lines with committees, sitting down with officials, taking real pulse from everyday Northampton and Lehigh County residents. Full campaign will launch on February 10, but the focus will always be on issues I’m passionate about: stronger economy through solid jobs and lower bills, power sourced right here in Pennsylvania, and laws that put our citizens first, not last.

That’s the same lens I used raising a billion dollars at The Salvation Army, build coalitions through the Wesleyan Holiness Connection, and provide best practices and training for Philanthropy.org: research, listen, deliver.

I'm learning about fixes that stick. And I’m preparing to mount a much more serious challenge to the current senator who was elected to this post in the previous century.

Happy to trade thoughts before the big drop.

    2. Lisa is a poster child for term limits, but the Dem primary is the defacto election Scott. A Republican cannot win this district.

    3. I wish you would have ran for county executive. Could have helped county employees and the residents of this county. Tara is falling right into line like Lamont wanted her to do. She is just unaware of anything, and the first thing he does is jump into bed with HR. She screwed the county employees faster then Lamont did. Gonna be a long 4 years.
Tara tried to speak the right things but forgot that the night said she won. Go hug the big fat guy. And keep that ship on course because if you don't Tara it's gonna run a ground. Then you will be looking for Lamont and all he'll be saying is " what did she do"

    4. I really love that Scott's wife is an author of some very wholesome books, and Scott is an author as well of vile maga rhetoric on Twitter.

  9. She reminds me of Zrinski, you just keep running for anything, just for the name recognition- the sad part is the quality of our local elected leaders.

    1. Except that Zrinski wins what she runs for (except when she ran against Flood). She, like Sulktana, may be crazy, but she's not chaotic nor criminal.

    2. Zrinski wins against poor candidates who don't campaign like Cusick & Giovanni. Flood smoked her!

  10. Boscola Is a dinosaur. The 18th District needs to evolve from Dip-blotto-cus 🦕 to Taiba the Tiger. 🐯

    1. Both Boscola & Freeman are Exhibit A of why term limits are needed. Then you have the do-nothing/stay in your lane Reps. like Emrick & Flood. The LV is represented by such poor Pols.

  12. Unless Trump finds a way to disrupt the election process this will be a big Democratic victory year. Republicans who refused to act responsibly in Congress to stand up to him and provide the necessary check the constitution calls for will be sorry.
