How Many Agency Nurses Are at Gracedale and How Much Have We Spent For Them?

During a Finance meeting yesterday, Council members John Brown and John Goffredo asked Fiscal Affairs Director Steve Barron to provide a written report on exactly how much the county has spent for agency nursing in 2023, 2024 and this year. They also want a breakdown of agency staff employed at the home and have asked for copies of all nursing contracts between Gracedale and outside nursing agencies.

Human Services Director told Council that outside agencies had provided 80% of the nursing duties at Gracedale, but the percentage has dropped to about 70%. Goffredo responded he wants to see the numbers.

At tonight's Human Services Committee, Gracedale administrators are expected to provide a full report on all operations at the home, including agency nursing.

  2. Let's hope this question is asked: Our local hospitals and agencies are loaded with qualified LPNs and RNs. What is the MAJOR reason why Gracedale is continually SHORT of Qualified Nursing Personnel? Is it compensation, working conditions, or Administration? Inquiring minds are desperate to know, and so are poor souls that reside here....Hint: Ad***ist****on.

    1. Health Networks and nursing agencies pay their nurses a lot more than county government (that’s no surprise). Plus there is a small part of the nursing population that wants to work with older adults. Those who work at Gracedale aren’t there for the money (unless agency). They are there because they care about Gracedale and the residents there.

  3. Is there any update on that abusive nurse aide?

  4. All LTCFs are overly reliant on Agency staffing. Gracedale is not unique in this regard.

    1. Exactly! Even hospital networks use agency staffing. My nurse a few weeks ago was from Texas and the local health network had her staying in a hotel for a month to help out. It’s not uncommon.
There are minimal nursing staff who want to work in long-term elder care. Maybe council can help out at Gracedale as volunteers since they seem to have it under their microscopes. When was the last time any of them were there to visit?

  5. Hasts off to oversight. It's better late than never, I guess. John Stoffa and Ron Angle were right about privatizing Gracedale, of course. But it took Lamont McClure to actually do it, albeit ham-handedly. Had Lamont actually sold the place, this painful, expensive, and inefficient half pregnancy wouldn't be occurring. But he chose death by a thousand cuts. That's a microcosm of the McClure regime. He'll finally be gone from us and his stink will linger. It will get a lot worse, however, if the woke, birdbrained, plastic straw zealot gets her (their/its?) way.

    2. Woke.. lol.. that’s a word I haven’t heard in gosh must be going on 16-18 hours now.. If I close my eyes after reading your comment I can hear the Fox News channel blaring in the background as you wrote that comment..

Those who follow TACO’s use big words like WOKE..

Such an honorable thing to use urban slang terms to undermine those that want fairness for everyone. Those “woke” people also look out for you.

  6. The more you peel the onion, the more it stinks- a perfect analogy for the McCluless Administration. Thank God he is gone at the end of the year. It will only get worse, if the electorate is stupid enough to elect Bullhorn Tara in November. She has no clue what the hell she is doing, and is propped up by the County cabal.

    1. Sorry but like it or not Tara will be your next County Executive. Republican turnout this year has been pathetic in the special elections and the primary. Add in the Dem dominance with MIBs and unfortunately its game over in November. She could have an 8-1 majority Council as well.
