Baratta Officially Unopposed in NorCo DA Race

On Friday evening, a reader took me to task for failing to report that county Republicans have named no candidate to oppose Democratic nominee Steve Baratta in this year's DA race. Actually, this blog was the first media outlet to inform you that Terry Houck, who won the Republican nomination as a result of a write-in campaign, had withdrawn. At that time, I added that Republicans had a limited amount of time to come up with a substitute. The sands in that hourglass emptied on Thursday with no nominee. This means that Baratta is the sole candidate running in this race. Is it possible he could lose as a reesult of a write-in campaign? Yes, but that is highly unlikely.

  2. Barratta could have opened up any investigation while serving, but chose a timely and politically convenient moment to publically a front Houck. It was an ugly and disgraceful display of misleading and misdirecting public opinion devised by both Morganelli and Barrata.Barrata won this fight, but exposed his lack of integrity and honor.

  3. You said Houck would win. What gives?

  4. Terry Houck has his faults, but I am disappointed that lies and big money prevailed in a local race. I don’t think the county wins with Baratta, a man I see as an ill-tempered egomaniac.

  6. Where did Baratta raise all this money from?

  7. I have posted both the pre primary and post primary campaign finance reports filed by both candidates. You know exactly where his money came from, so don't act like it is some deep, dark mystery.

Lance Wheeler is an elected constable, but is no longer certified. He himself is facing criminal charges. He also happens to be an active Democrat.

  9. Blue-leaning NorCo is about to get a Soros-wannabe-type DA. That means a significant increase in crime and violence and you're a racist if you complain. Illegals will have more rights than American citizens in our county. Philadelphia, here we come. We're about to be forced to live out those lefty progressive yard signs.

I supported Houck, but have to disagree with the sentiment that Baratta would be a Soros-type DA. He is to the left of Houck, but only slightly so. His position on cash bail is basically the result of steps he took when he was PJ to provide that most defendants accused of nonserious crimes be released on their own recognizance after Pretrial Services reviews the matter. This system is already in place and has been for several years, so I do not understand why it was even an issue. His position on the death penalty is the same as Gavin Hollihan. I have always opposed the death penalty myself. From a pure cost standpoint, it costs much more to kill someone than imprison him for life. Opposition to the death penalty does not equate being soft on crime. Baratta does have some work to do. He needlessly alienated police officers and disparaged task forces that are very helpful in preventing crime. I doubt very much that criminals are dancing in joy. I think it's truly unfortunate that Terry had to withdraw. I supported him wholeheartedly. But Steve is no Philly DA.

  15. Barrata is bought and paid for puppet backed by Morganelli. His spineless misdirected personal attacks against Houck and his family did nothing more than dishonor and expose his moral and ethical weakness about himself and his integrity.

    1. Did baratta ever attack Houck’s family? I didn’t get a mailer about that. I think his attacks were at houck only. If you wanna comment, at least talk the truth.

  16. Bernie, please consider not publishing “dumbass”. A true disgrace whose identity is probably already known to you.
