By a 6-3 vote, Northampton County Council voted last night to ask voters to consider whether future District Attorneys should be limited to four terms. The reason why County Council went to four terms is because professional prosecutors would then be more likely to be interested.
The Council members opposed to this referendum are Ron Heckman, Tara Zrinski and Kevin Lott.
This matter will be placed on the ballot next Spring. It is too late to do so now.
(My original headline was incorrect.)
You should update your headline to read four terms, not three
ReplyDeleteThanks for the correction.
ReplyDeleteElected Sheriff next...
ReplyDeleteThese Council people are nutz. what Attorney is going to give up a decent law practice to serve as D.A. and have his terms be limited. He would have to start his practice from scratch. These council people are nut jobs.
ReplyDeleteToo bad for the little lawyer. Public service was never intended to replace your job.
DeleteLooks like your boy Terry is limited to ONE term Bernardo
ReplyDeleteAre they allowed to term limit the DA? Isn’t that technically a state office, and funded by the state?
ReplyDelete8:38, I believe it's legal. The DA is term limited in several counties, accordiong to Heffner. She failed to state whether those are full or part-time DAs.
ReplyDeleteOh well if Lori said it…

ReplyDeleteThanks to a GOP majority that includes Lori Vargo Heffner, I can see a return to three commissioners and an elected Recorder of Deeds.
Re: 6:06PM comment - A flip side of that opinion may be that after 3 or 4 terms, an experienced, successful DA would be an attractive partner/shareholder addition to an established law firm.
ReplyDeleteI believe term limits are already in place. If the person elected isn’t doing their job vote them out office
ReplyDeleteBingo

ReplyDeleteIf so, it will be thanks to the McClure team, the union boss and you for making it so. Someone said Lamont could be the last county executive as he has so abused the position. It just may be true.
