Former Allentown Resident Files for Wild's Congressional Seat

Maria Montero, who grew up in both Northeastern Pa and Allentown, has filed a Statement of Candidacy with the Federal Elections Commission for the seat currently held by Susan Wild.

A Republican, Montero graduated from St. Joseph's University and Widener School of Law. After graduating from law school, she moved back to the Allentown area to practice worker's compensation law. She has said that "a major family event pulled me into the family business, El Torero Spanish Newspaper." That major family event appears to be the arrest and subsequent conviction of Ricardo Montero for the sexual assault of a 15 year-old girl. Whatever happened, obviously, is no reflection on Maria.

She states that she took over the newspaper. She adds that she co-founded  Power of Women Networking Initiatives and volunteered with Catholic Charities. Under Governor Corbett, she was the Exec Director of the Governor's Advisory Committee for Latino Affairs. She is also a member of the board of Pa. Parks and Forests Foundation.

She appears to work in Philadelphia at the Pa Convention Center, but has recently relocated her residence to somewhere in the Lehigh Valley.

In 2019, Moreno did seek the nomination of her party in a special election to fill Pennsylvania 12th Congressional district, but was unsuccessful.

It is likely that State Rep. Ryan MacKenzie will also be seeking the Republican nomination for Congress.

  2. Wild is a transplant from the south. She is little more than an ineffectual rubber stamp.

  3. Wild represents California, if you follow her money. She's not really from here values-wise. I'll take a carpetbagger. I'll take any alternative to Cali Susie.

  4. I can’t wait to see the millions of dollars that Wild unleashes on Ryan Mackenzie, if he’s even the nominee. The guy is a china doll. He’s never had a real challenge in his entire life. His house seat was handed to him by the party. He has no idea what’s coming at him.

  5. once again, is this the best we can do?

  6. As a Democrat, I often wonder why our local party can't find candidates like this? We created PA's first ever Latino state house district, and then went out to found an establishment white male (Peter Schweyer) to run for the seat. I will certainly consider voting for Maria Montero if she makes it through the Republican primary.

    1. Peter Schweyer is a strong legislator, knows the job, and knows his district.

  7. I am a registered democrat and Wild voter, but it’s healthy for the system for candidates to have primary opposition to strengthen and focus their message

    May the best woman win!

  10. It's always great to see Philadelphians who move here to run for elected office.

And because you like to point out the typos of others as though they are misspellings, it's "Widener."

  11. She just moved here to run for Congress. Republicans need a strong candidate and she is definitely not it.

That's no typo. I've misspelled this college for years. Thanks for alerting me to my error.

  13. Deleted a few comments from MAGAs who are incapable of addressing the topic at hand. It is either complete ignorance or a form of mental illness to be so incapable of talking about anything other than your hatred of Biden or love for Trump.

I'd like to know more about her. Montero will be attacked as a carpetbagger and as an opportunist. Not sure I buy that since she spent much of her life in A'town. I don't think she has many political allies in this area. She will need that to get thru a primary. She'll also need money.

  15. She looks like a good candidate. More reflective of the diverse Allentown community. Anybody but Wild.

  18. Ryan Mackenzie would be Wilds first real challenger. Being a current elected office holder will prove to be an asset.

    1. The wee baby Mackenzie isn’t a threat to Wild. Maybe his Mommy can come with him to a Congress as well? Laughable.

Wild is by no means a perfect candidate/incumbent, but if the Republicans nominate the wee child Mackenzie then prepare for another term of Wild. Give us someone good to vote for and Wild is out but neither of the Mackenzies are an inspiring choice.

Some of the worst politicians I can think of lived here all their lives.

  23. "Another lawyer," "lawyers should not be elected," blah, blah, blah. Yes, let's all pretend that the big problem in our nation is electing too many lawyers to WRITE LAWS. Let's just get more non-lawyers in Congress. They will know how to draft legislation that works . . . .

  24. She is a strong candidate. Smart, articulate and Hispanic. Good for the district's demographics. Wild has been an ineffective rubber-stamp for her party.

He was not mentioned because I have no information that he has filed or that he is running. The only two candidates who have filed with the FEC are Susan Wild and Maria Montero. Before accusing me of withholding things, you should have the facts.

OF COURSE "Republican means violence" because a majority of them supports the violence of Jan. 6.

  28. My only question would be is does this fine young prospectable representative have an office on 7th street in allentown PA? If that be the case the allentown establishment sees wilds demise in the up comming massive failure of the democrat voting base.

  29. Mackenzie is a little snake. His colleagues in Harrisburg hate him. He was literally handed his house seat by the local Rs and he started running for leadership right away and kept getting smoked. This is Ryan’s ride off into the sunset if he even wins the primary.
