What Red Wave?

All day yesterday and for days before, I was inundated by comments bragging about a big red wave on its way. I believed it, too. While Republicans will certainly take the House, it will be by a slim margin. And it appears now that the Senate may remain Democratic. I'll know more tomorrow. They had the perfect message. We do have a terrible economy and a president who is definitely past his prime But as good as their message might be, they had terrible messengers. Election deniers. Anti-vaxxers. QAnon types who latch onto conspiracy theories instead of facts.

  1. Just like buyer's remorse with Biden the Pa. voters will be sorry-They deserve high inflation. high energy prices, crime galore, no borders. Wew do not want to hear the Pa. people complain because you get what you voted for.

  4. Democrats dominate--so when the taxes go up and the government spending increases --no complaining this is what you voted for.

  5. If I said it once, I’ll said it again - we don’t need or want conservative extreme fascist white Christian nationalism in Pennsylvania. Your so-called “people” have spoken, and we accept pro-choice over Steven lynchs totalitarianism.

  6. The results should put the last nail in Trump's coffin. Election deniers and MAGA cultists took a beating. I do thank him for showing up in PA and revealing Oz was going to be his lapdog. Until his visit I was going to vote Oz.

  7. This just shows that either party has perfected a method to deal with high inflation, although the Democrats are for the working person and it appears that the adults came out and voted. Women won their rights for health care and that was on the ticket.

What was the thought process that decidedly took away abortion from American women?

  10. I’m just surprised so many votes would go to endorse the level of destruction brought upon us by the current politicians in office. This defies all logic. It’s as if America is being chewed up right before our eyes, with everyday Americans just watching it all happen in ignorance! The path we will now continue down leads only to further destruction of the Middle Class. Pain ahead, for sure.

  12. Your right Bernie Trump does not stand a chance in this country our people will take everything Biden and the Democrats do because rather than have him in office they would rather pay high prices for everything, high murder rate, no border and take what goes with that, hell on retirement 401 plans will continue to dry up, the vast majority of Americans would rather suffer than vote for Trump. And they will suffer because the left-wing policies are bad just look at the economic situation right now it will only get worse.

  13. United States will continue its decline in all areas not worth it to get all excited because this what the people want. Our system of government is not working and there is no way in hell where politicians will turn this country around, they are not capable of doing it. We will continue to decline and China for one will dominate us in all areas.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The red wave is the blood from all those abortions. Suck it Rethuglicans. Abortion is legal, will be plentiful, celebrated - and the best part is you noobs are going to pay for them. You want to be tough on crime? Kill the minority crime problem before it gets born and it won't become a problem. Same thing with failing school districts. We're finally having an honest conversation and Trump cultists are about to see the brave new world. Most people want abortion. They want more of it. They want it to be more available in minority areas where it's sorely needed. And they're willing to pay for it. What a night!

  15. For me as a Republican this is the best result. Trump must be purged from the party. We get the house and we can get rid of Trump once and for all. Clowns like Mastriano, Bolduc, all the Trump candidates lost. How could Oz win with Mastriano losing by 14?

    1. If the Dems stole it, why does it matter whether people voted Dem? You managed to contradict yourself in a single sentence. Make up your mind. Either the Dems have complete ability to steal elections (in which case you should give up and stop voting/talking politics because you are wasting your time) or they don't (in which case you should stop saying every election conservatives lose is stolen). We as conservatives need to stop being so stupid on this issue.

  20. Anyone who doesn't believe the media is in the pocket of the Democratic Party is blind. I watched ABC coverage with David Muir last night and for a full hour, his entire analysis was focused on 'election deniers' which plays hand in hand with Senile Joe's message. He didn't ask winning Republicans about their message, he asked them how they felt about election deniers and if they believed Joe Biden won fairly in 2020. Then even at the local level on Philly 6, it was stories about election deniers by local reporters. Complete and utter BS.
"our democracy is at stake" was as much a hoax as the Russian tie to the Trump campaign. And the media shoved it down our neighbors throats. We get what we deserve, I guess. This is democracy, I guess. Never mind the economy. Never mind inflation. Never mind energy. Never mind North Korea, Iran or Russia. Its just evil Trump stories.
I don't want Trump to run again, but they set this whole story up that if these people get in office they'll install Trump, which is a fictional novel yet to be written. Its a crazy jump. No one said that about Hilary. No one said that about Abrams. Its just a media sensational story that has no basis, but it sold the American public.
We'll look back at these times in 50 years and shake our head in disgust. Sad.

  21. Voters are smarter than you think. They see what an extreme right Supreme Court can do and they don't like it. They also know that corporate greed is driving a good part of inflation in this country right now, not government policies. Corporations are at 53% profit margins, an historic figure.... during other inflationary periods it was 11%. Finally, most Americans want to continue to wash the stink of Trump out of the country's hair. My faith has been restored in the American people (or at least those in the great state of PA).

  25. I am hoping this is a wake up call to the republican party that the Trump effect and its extremism will not carry candidates to a win.

I wish we can go back to the days of pragmatic candidates, especially on the republican side, where crossing the isle is not an automatic death sentence politically.

I still think the middle is not served very well by either party and hopefully this election will make the parties push more moderate candidates.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Just like with Lynch last year - The GOP stepped on their own dick again in a political environment that was there for the taking by putting up bad candidates that only appealed to its base voters.

Trump/MAGA does not broadly appeal to moderate/independent voters who dominate suburban areas. Yes, there are plenty of people who like to put signs up in their yards, but yard signs don't translate directly to votes. Dems dominate in Urban areas, Republicans dominate the rural areas, the true battle ground is the hearts and minds of suburban voters who are usually college educated and raising families with children in schools and in general avoid extremism.

Republican messaging was terrible and that is illustrated by a lot of oft repeated FOXNews talking point comments here. Its one thing to acknowledge that the economy is tanking, or that inflation is painfully high, but there was no concrete plan from the GOP explaining what they could/would do to change it beyond the basic "We're not Democrats! Vote for us!".

    ReplyDelete
  27. The people have spoken. The voters of 2022 are the most informed voters in history. The shock wave to the Republicans should be a lesson learned for the future. When in doubt, put your faith in the hands of the American voter. This isn't the beginning of the end for Donald Trump. This is the end of the beginning for that scum bag. Now he can be prosecuted for his sins against his fellow Americans and pay for his crimes.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think there are quite a few historically moderate republicans (or fiscally conservative, socially moderate republicans) out there like myself were completely disgusted by the MAGA, anti-vaxxer, anti-abortion extremist candidates in this election. I didn't vote for any of them this time. I don't even recognize the current form of the party as it basically exists to enrich the top 1% at the expense of everyone else, and is only "fiscally conservative" to the extent that it helps the 1%. I can't vote against my self-interest like that anymore.

    ReplyDelete

  42. If you vote Republican, you are aligning yourself with racist, ableist, and homophobes. The Republican Party is actively campaigning to take away gay and trans peoples rights. They are actively campaigning to get rid of affirmative action, free and fair election votes, social programs that benefit the elderly, and recategorizing the definition of black so they can gerrymander black and people of color voters out of proper representation. And it doesn’t matter if you say that you’re voting for the economy or veterans or whatever, because you’re just telling me that those things are more important than the rights of LGBTQ, people of color, the elderly and everyone that’s paid into their social security and Medicare benefits.

  46. I am assuming hat the numerous economists who respond to this blog understand that the inflation that we are suffering is a Worldwide cyclical phenomenon. It’s due to the pandemic and the aftermath of same. Trump btw was the single most deficit incurring President in our Nations history. Our inflation rate is much lower than EU nations and The UK. Our dollar is at an all time high in terms of value and exchange rate. As far as all the Gordon Gecko’s who lament that there 401 k is in the tank, I suggest changing financial advisors. The stock market is again higher than when Trump was in office. That was Trumps big bragging point and it should be Dems now. These are the Economic facts and they are not in dispute.

  70. Two things happened that gave me hope that this country can work together and bring some decorum back to politics. The first was Glenn Youngkin in Virginia. He made a joke in poor taste about sending Nancy Pelosi home to be with her husband. He admitted it and personally apologized to her. He also sent a hand written note to her. Trump take note, this is called taking responsibility for an action. Second was Dr Oz who called Fetterman and was very gracious in conceding. Then he made a statement saying that we must put our partisan swords down and work better together or the republic will not survive. Very classy. Trump should go away now we don’t need his nastiness any more.
