NBC: Trump to Run For Prez

NBC reported Tuesday night that Donald Trump was expected to announce his candidacy for President, and he did an hour later. If he has more than one primary opponent in the primary, I'm sure he will win the GOP nomination. And then lose in the general election.

Trump's candidacy is an early Christmas present for Democrats. He lost the popular vote in 2016. It resulted in a blue wave in municipal races the following year, in which Democrats won in many places they always lost. He lost control of the House in the 2018 midterms. He lost both the popular and electoral college vote in 2020. And despite record inflation and flaws in a Democratic president past his prime, the specter of Trump certainly played a role in preventing a much ballyhooed red wave in last week's midterms.

National Review's editorial on the subject has a one-word headline: "No." "To paraphrase Voltaire after he attended an orgy, once was an experiment, twice would be perverse."

It's sad. I am hard pressed to think of many Democrats who I could picture in the White House. But there are more than a few eminently qualified Republicans. Unfortunately for them, they will almost certainly go with their most flawed candidate.

Trump did propose some reforms to "drain the swamp" towards the end of a low energy and at, times, rambling speech so full of misinformation that it was was actually cut off by several networks. These included term limits for members of Congress and a ban on lobbying by former lawmakers. He made this promise when he ran in 2016, too, and then did nothing.

  1. This will not end well for the GOP.

  2. I don’t trust anything out of NBC concerning political “news.” But, if Trump does announce tonight, and I believe he will announce at some point, he deserves another shot at it. Good for him!

You know, Democrats should be rejoicing on the news as, according to them, he will be easy to defeat. HA!

  3. Thank god the Don is running. He will make America great again. He’s probably running to avoid being sentenced for some of the crimes he committed but since we don’t place our past presidents in prison he will never truly be accountable for the many crimes he and his family committed, announcing his candidacy is nothing more than a strategic move. Based on what had happened last week. The Republicans will lose even bigger in 2024, but America loses by allowing a dirt salesman, second rate reality TV henchman act legitimate and pursue the office of this great country. Is this really who we are?

As a lawyer, can Donald Trump avoid being prosecuted by running for re-election?
Does Donald Trump have a legitimate case about the classified documents?

  7. This is well deserved by the deep state and politicians of this country--they have run this country into the ground and Trump will not let them forget that which they try to do by lying to the American people for many years. HA HA Ha Bernie

  8. I will absolutely vote for him again. He was cheated out of a well-deserved second term. He accomplished so much on behalf of all citizens and under a constant barrage of nonsense thrown at him. It really doesn’t matter what candidate the Republicans have in place, that candidate will be lied about, mistreated, and have roadblocks put in the way of the agenda.

Trump as candidate will fight back and shed even more light on career politicians, the news media, and their underhanded tactics. It will be a wild ride and fun to watch. As a former Democrat darling once asked, “At this point, what difference does it make?”

  10. Well, Political analysis for an election 2 years away, by anyone, is a foolish endeavor. Trump said one important thing in his statement. He predicts that by the time the election rolls around, we will be living in a new world. A world impacted by the present administrations policies.
Does anyone really believe that this administrations policies will have a positive effect on the country?

  11. I am changing my political party to vote for Donald Trump. That way we can assure he will be on the ticket in November and we can vote against him and ensure a democratic President, a democratic Congress and a Democratic Senate. Put your trust in the people of America. The recent election is proof that we learn our lessons WELL.

You're parroting what your cult leader said in his speech. What he didn't tell you is that the wins were in safe seats, and even those were by about 5% or more less than they should have been. He lost the consequential races. His endorsement of Oz, Bolduc, Mastriano and Lake either meant nothing or hurt them. Aren't you tired of defending his lies yet? In the over 200 races where he made no endorsement at all, the GOP candidates did 2.2 points better. Ask Lauren Boebert how the Trump endorsement helped her.

Worse are those feeling delusionary confident that the rest of America will somehow change their mind about him in 2 years and hilariously predicting victory. A week after an abysmal performance in the mid terms. They are like Charlie Brown with Lucy and the football...

Even if Trump does not get the Republican nomination, he’s going to threaten to run as a third-party candidate out of spite, or to get what he wants and then absolutely ruins any chances of a Republican becoming president. I just want him to disappear and go away but I’m afraid he’s not and it’s going to cause nothing but chaos for the next two years.

I hate all politicians and both parties. I never voted for the bozo. But facts are facts. He ran the table on steak and potatoes conservative initiatives in a fashion that Reagan could only wish. While he was tweeting and acting like an idiot, his administration was a workaholic conservative juggernaut. The tribes will blame or salute him according to their approved scripts ....

He cut personal income taxes as promised
He cut corporate taxes as promised
He slashed the federal register of regulations as promised
He appointed hundreds of federal judges who were confirmed as promised
He nominated and had confirmed three right-leaning SCOTUS justices as promised and then some
He eliminated ISIS in eight months as promised and ahead of schedule
He forged historic peace agreements between Israel and several Arab countries as promised
He launched Operation Warp Speed vaccine development program
He started ZERO wars; only POTUS who can claim this beside Carter

  32. He's obnoxious and cray cray. But he gets my vote because we need to stop Democrats from doing this:

US funding for the Ukraine War:
    March: 13.6 billion
    May: 40.0 billion
Nov: 37.7 billion (Biden's current request)
    TOTAL: 91.3 billion

$91.3 billion is twice our annual cost to lose in Afghanistan. $91.3 billion is a third higher than Russia's entire defense budget.

Remember Cindy Sheehan and Democrats when they used to be anti-war? Those days are long gone. Neocon Democrats are a weird and gutless phenomenon, obsessed with fixing the economy the old fashioned way: by starting the next war. Stay tuned for a red line in the sand or something ....

  42. Before the 2024 elections, maga republicans need to stop living the American dream and start living the American reality.

The reality is that most Americans are one paycheck away from being. One accident or one death of a spouse away from being homeless.

And what happens if you get disabled? Is this billionaire going to be there to take of you? No, you’re gonna need the same “entitlement” program you voted against. You know the Medicare you also voted against? Yeah, you’re gonna need that to pay for your medical bills.

So stop living an unattainable American dream, and start voting on your reality.
