You are welcome to post your last minute pitches with specific reasons why you favor a candidate in tomorrow's election. I will not post tribal comments about either party. Why do you support Shapiro, Mastriano, Oz, Fetterman, Scheller, Wild or any of the state rep or state senate candidates?

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
I’m voting for Oz because he’s the only candidate who can say the word “Pennsylvania”.
ReplyDeleteAnd that’s being specific. Being vague would have accused Fetterman of communicating like a 3 year old.
As a low middle class American I need to vote my wallet and security for a better future for my kids and family. Therefore, I will be voting for Shapiro, Fetterman, and Wild since these candidates will fight for my middle class values and keep America on the right path moving forward.
ReplyDeleteI strongly support Doug Mastriano for Governor. His leadership credentials are some of the best ever to bring to this important position. A strong family man of high moral character with impressive record of success in military service to our nation.
ReplyDeleteMastriano has been unfairly smeared by our local press. That’s unfortunate. Mastriano would be a Governor not controlled by Philadelphia-style politics or the news media. Mastriano represents a refreshing break from the way things have been done in Harrisburg. We ALL need that!
Doug Mastriano is a man that will directly address our state’s problems. He’ll work hard on behalf of all Pennsylvanians in an open and honest way. Doug Mastriano is the better option this time. No doubt in my mind!
Uhuru Brother!
DeleteI am making a prediction. Fetterman squeaks out a victory by a tenth of a percentage point, resigns his office, and the Governor will make the appointment to fill the vacancy.
ReplyDelete28 years in Harrisburg is enough! John Merhottein for State Senate!
ReplyDeleteNick Miller has been active in our community before running for office. He has the right pulse when it comes to schools and would be more capable crossing the isle when it comes to a better funding formula and property tax relief for PA residents. His opponents second mailer was disgustingly false and repulsive.
ReplyDeleteSusan Wild because she has always been there for the American worker. She is most prepared to uphold law and order and colloquial mannerism. Wild pushed back on the extremes who wanted to defund police while her opponent was quick to embrace the support of far right extrimists who have disregard for law and order and the Constitution.
Fetterman because he has the better pulse of the PA working family. In the live interviews since the debate, Fetterman restored my confidence in his ability to serve. His opponent is a better actor and looks good in makup.
Josh Shapiro because he is a law and order guy and no political persuasion will waiver his support for the men and women in blue including Capitol Police at home and in DC. We don't need holy wars from false promakeup.
I am center left, first generation college graduate with blue collar origins, loved block cheese sandwiches, and thankful for the opportunities afforded to me by past generations.
I am amazed at the number of people who simply are unable to provide specific reasons for any candidate and who just make blanket statements about their tribe.
ReplyDeleteI am not amazed. Both sides have been brainwashing their respective supporters for years. Here is an original reason for Oz, he is an average, mild-mannered individual, while his positions are generic, he does not inflame either side . We need more of him, he has my vote. Mastriano, while he does say some ridiculous nonsense, he is someone who loves his country. Mastriano may say and take some extreme positions, he is not an empty suit like shapiro. Josh Shapiro is angling to become president of attorney general of the DOJ. Every new role to shapiro is another line on his résumé. Mastriano is just interested in Pa., and helping Pa not turn into our neighbors. Hence he has my vote.
DeleteHow dare you Bernie? I fully support and will vote for Steve Lyn.......Oh wait. He is irrelevant!! Hah!
DeleteOz - lesser of two horrible candidates. His opponent is a coward who ducked debates until he got special rules.
ReplyDeleteMastriano - lesser of two horrible candidates. Shapiro supports child grooming and genital mutilation on minors without parental approval Shapiro was also terrified of debate and is a coward who's not tall enough to ride the rides at Dorney.
Scheller - lesser of two horrible candidates. Wild is the candidate from Beverly Hills, not the Lehigh Valley.
" Shapiro supports child grooming and genital mutilation on minors without parental approval "
ReplyDeleteUm, female genital mutilation is a felony in Pa. regardless of parental consent. Your statement is pretty much an outright lie. What Shapiro does support is legislation that would provide housing, schooling, and employment protections for the LGTBQ community as well as an expansion of hate crimes to include LGBTQ. He does support a ban on conversion therapy practiced on minors.
You are spreading outright disinformation about Shapiro and trying to stoke fears. If you need to do this, then your candidate is already a loser.
Whether I count as a tribalist comment in your opinion, I think the people of Pennsylvania should remember who aggressively locked down most businesses, harmed PA’s economy and seniors; Fetterman, Shapiro and Wild. These same people then participated in large gatherings (protests) which they supported ideologically.
ReplyDeleteMastriano actively campaigned for legislation to make Emergency Powers less monarchical and more democratic which I believe helped curb executive overreach from Wolf and Fetterman.
Fetterman - NO - due to his lame tax leins issues, and the fact that he wants to increase the State income tax by 50%. His "management" of Braddock is a farce.
ReplyDeleteWild - NO - another career politician in the making. Tired of this happening. Willing to give Scheller a chance. She is active in the community.
Shapiro - NO - this guy will win, but I have to vote Mastriano as no other options.
Boscola - NO - another career politician. No thanks. Looking for fresh blood from a Veteran/Businessman Merhottein.
Just a note - until term limits are addressed, we will be stuck with some of this repeat garbage.
Oz is a doctor and successful businessman and, as an Arab-American, would add diversity to the Senate. Fetterman is just another white guy with zero professional accomplishments.
ReplyDeleteI am voting tomorrow for Shapiro, Fetterman and Wild!
ReplyDeleteVoting in person!
Sanity and Democracy in play here!
Mastriano is not a good positive candidate for our great state!
Very extreme!
Oz less extreme, but doesn’t really know our State, Our Issues! I know Fetterman is still recovering from the stroke, but he is now able to speak more clearly! It takes time, like breaking a leg takes time to walk!
Thanks for all the exclamation points lol.
DeleteI am voting for all candidates that are going to Vote for a WOMAN'S RIGHTS TO CHOOSE.
ReplyDeleteNo to wild. I reached out many times and never received one personal response. Specifically her position on immigration and the economy. No to Shapiro. Knew him in the beginning and he is all about making a name for himself with no regard to facts and who he hurts. He plays as an advocate for the elderly but went after department of health not having a clue what they do. Fetterman ran a small community and otherwise no experience for the position. Mastriano served our country and is a man of integrity who supports conservative beliefs on energy economy and security. Despite what the ads says Dr oz is for abortion when rape or harm to mother is in play. As for the others career politicians have done nothing for us and new ideas need to be voted in. We are in big trouble and what we are doing is not working. We need a change and the only way to do this is vote to change it.
ReplyDeleteI'm voting a straight D ticket. The specific reasons:
ReplyDelete1. I know they won't fall lockstep with the MAGA Cult and those who want to destroy our democracy.
2. GOP wants to attack Soc. Sec. and Medicare. They aren't hiding it and numerous plans have been proposed. Any senior citizen voting Republican will regret it, if they take control.
3. I don't look good in a brown shirt.
What is such a shame is that instead of facts being stated in ads there are lies. So you believe what you write. The cult as you call it is small and just a talking point to get you to vote democrat. Most Republicans. Half of the country aren't extremists. And there is no fact that Republican want to get rid of medicare. They just want it to be sustainable for future generations. But you believe the propaganda and will vote to further hurt our country like the past two years.
Delete@11.52
DeleteHave you read the RSC’s “Blueprint to Save America” proposal? It literally says in there that they will cut social security by at least one third.
I’m convinced that conservatives are people that react emotionally to hypothetical fear-mongering and do not research their own party’s future goals.
Like c’mon people
The present plan make social security out in 2034...we obviously need some change. I will need to work to 70 and that's what they propose. The way we are going no one will see social security. As for Medicare today we have to buy extra insurance that still doesn't cover what we need. This system need revision too. It doesn't mean it's going away. It's about being fiscally responsible so those benefits are there in the future
Delete@5:40
DeleteHow do you gracefully accept the fact that you might work until 70? Have you lost your mind? You want to work your entire life to make someone else rich and then you vote for republicans that take away services that will help you have a better quality of life. Like this kind of thinking is surreal.

ReplyDelete"He (Shapiro) does support a ban on conversion therapy practiced on minors."
Which conversion therapy is he opposing? Physical conversions from their birth sex, or "conversion therapy" that attempts to help minors who think they are gay work back to "straight"?
In either case, it's not like Shapiro's an outsider here. He's the sitting Attorney General in the state.
Has Shapiro been standing up for our girls as biological men compete in their sports? NO!
Did Shapiro stand up for PA school students when Governor Wolf and the teachers union kept our public schools shut down during covid? NO!
Did Shapiro try to remove Larry Krasner and other District Attorneys in the state that refused to enforce the law? NO!
Did Shapiro fight to reopen PA businesses during Governor Wolf’s arbitrary covid closures? NO!
That's right, Shapiro's been fine with all that.
This is an easy vote. Mastriano is far better.
________________________________________________________________
Expanding that to other candidates, it's very clear that the problems we face (inflation, crime, fuel prices and shortages, etc.) are the direct result of democrat POLICIES.
NONE of the democrat candidates running for office have spoken out against those policies and those currently in office have been the ones voting for those policies.
So I'm voting Mastriano, Oz, Sheller, and I encourage others to do the same. For other races, I'd recommend Browning, Coleman, Finch, Labenberg and others.
If you like high fuel prices, fuel shortages, high crime, falling real wages, high inflation, out-of-control spending, etc., then by all means vote for the democrat candidates.
Here are the candidates I'll be voting for and why:
ReplyDeleteLisa Scheller
She gets my vote, hands down. She has self-limited herself to 2 terms and pledged to donate her entire salary to veteran's causes. My father is a disabled Vietnam vet and this rings home with me. I stand with the vets over most anything.
Doug Mastriano
People argue he's too "extreme." I ask- what is extreme about wanting to find and prosecute child sex traffickers? Kids are innocent and deserve to be protected once they've been brought into this world. On the other end, as a moderate conservative, I really don't give a shit how many people want to kill their babies in the womb. I just don't want to pay for it with my tax dollars.
Dr. Oz
Everyone during covid said "trust the doctors," "get your shots," "wear a mask." Now, all of a sudden, this particular doctor is no good? He's a cardiothoracic surgeon, no less. It takes a special individual to withstand a surgical residency during the time he did. It would be completely unfair to not give him a chance to do good things. If he fails, we primary him. In addition to this, I feel bad for Fetterman, on a human level. Regardless of disagreeing with his abhorrent policies, he should have sat this one out. It's not right to make him recover from a stroke in the public eye and try to heal, while trying to balance political stress. Your body just doesn't heal under stress, and I feel the Democrats extorted him. They could've put someone else in the race.
John Merhottein
Lisa Boscola is a drunk and needs to step out of a position like that. She's been skating by for 28 years. I can recall nothing she's done of importance. At least Merhottein wants to do good for the people. I'll give him a shot until he proves otherwise.
Boscola has been a loose cannon when She used to hang out on the 3rd Floor at the Northampton Court House
ReplyDeleteNo- to Mastriano due to his activities on January's cop attempt.
ReplyDeleteHe has put off till after the election to answer questions about his role in the talks the repubs were having involving the push to have the pa legislature to overturn results of the past election.
Mastriano being anywhere around that makes him a danger to your vote.
A No to Oz as he is just a sock puppet for trump--to be fair he tried to appear his own man at the trump latrobe rally but he came off as a trump boot licker. Oz at best is an opportunist who is more worried about himself than the people he would represent.
Oz probably would like to use a Senate seat to leapfrog to a VP slot after trump fades away.
11:42, In your first comment at 8:58, you dishonestly stated that Shapiro supports child grooming and genital mutilation. So you've already established that you're a liar. Now you pretend that you don't understand that "conversion therapy" is an attempt to change the sexual orientation of someone who considers himself gay. Give me a break!
ReplyDeleteWhen you lie, as you did in your first comment, I disregard all your other rather lengthy observations.
Before you vote go grocery shopping, fill up your car, go to the bank and check your 401 plan than vote.
ReplyDeleteGreat comment!
DeleteAGREED!
DeleteA general, bipartisan statement, but valid: regardless of party, do not vote for any lawyer. They're the lowest form of civic life and are not deserving of public trust. Lawyers wreck everything. It's important to identify lawyers among your candidates. Most are very sneaky about their shame. Vote if you must. But never vote for a lawyer.
ReplyDeleteAll I have to say is that if you vote Republican in this election, you’re sealing the lid on democracy as we know it. Republicans have openly said that they will sunset “entitlement programs” like social security and Medicare, even though we’ve been paying into them all our lives. The Supreme Court will kick back the power the de-certify elections to the states thus invalidating free and fair elections officially making this a fascist country. This is NOT hyperbole, they are openly saying they will do all of this. For the love of god and country, do not vote these people in.
ReplyDeleteGovernment should not determine minimum wage, as the disparity of workers (part time and full time) is not a one-size-fits-all directive. Market conditions should help determine pay. If a business isn't paying enough, they close their doors for too few workers or raise their prices to pay their staff.
ReplyDeleteHaving a government dictate how much a teen should be making for pouring a coffee and serving a donut our a window just doesn't seem right.
Just one of many issues I have with government over-reach.
One side has no answer, but to say government should set a minimum wage regardless of the impact on the business owner or franchisee.
The other side says let the market determine it, which it was doing very well under a previous administration, where wages were going up with NO GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION.
I tend to wonder, why is it extreme to protect the life of a child, in utero? But it is not extreme to eliminate (to use a softer word than reality) a human life?
ReplyDeleteWhich side is extreme, when governors are starting to consider allowing "elimination" up to birth?
One side has "changed our converstation, changed our language", as a former first lady has said. Its time to get back to reality.
11:53
ReplyDeleteLet’s face facts, you are either a small business owner or a white guy who doesn’t have a good job or benefits and wish trump was our current president. Voting all the way Republican and really don’t care about our democracy the way your father did.A disabled Vietnam Vet would never vote for the wealthy misguided candidates you have chosen to vote for.
NorCo will have completed counting overnight. Lehigh is a bit dumber and will take longer. Brazil had all counts wrapped up in hours. Why are Democratic officials at the White House and in Harrisburg warning of long count times? What are they up to that doesn't happen in NorCo or Brazil? We're either incompetent or crooked. Neither is good. Integrity is earned. This is widely known.
ReplyDeleteDemocrat here, planning to vote for Oz, Shapiro, Scheller and Browning. For me the economy, energy and crime are the primary issues and the Democrats policies have made things worse for Americans in these specific policy issues. Maybe a Democrat president with Republican Congress will result in more bipartisan outcomes. I just cannot bring myself to vote for Mastriano.
ReplyDelete@11:52
ReplyDeleteThe GOP is very open and transparent on their Soc. Security plans. They aren't hiding it.
Try reading more on the subject.
https://waysandmeans.house.gov/sites/democrats.waysandmeans.house.gov/files/media/pdf/112/GOP_Budget_SocialSecurity.pdf
Mastriano is certifiable. Anyone who votes for a party and votes for him needs to get right with god, whichever one they have been indoctrinated with.
ReplyDeleteGoing to the Oz rally tonight in Pennsburg and strongly support him over the pampered do-nothing Fetterman who mooched off his parents into his 40s and failed to pay his taxes on time. Mayor of a rinky dink town of 1,700 and a useless job as Lt. Governor does not qualify Fetterman to be a US Senator. Plus he is cognitively impaired. Oz is a shining example of the American dream. Son of immigrants who worked his butt off to become a distinguished surgeon. He is level headed and will get things done for the benefit of our country and its citizens. VOTE OZ!!
ReplyDeleteMost people on this blog don’t fully understand how inflation works. Corporations and companies have total control inflation in this country by determining prices of goods and services. They blame everything in “supply chain issues” but the fact of the matter is they’re keeping prices high to gouge customers while they set record high profits. Politicians can create policies but they don’t control inflation.
ReplyDeleteYou mean it’s not too much money chasing to few goods. Wow I guess I’ll return that economics degree I have lol.
DeleteSo you’d understand that corporations shouldn’t have record making profits during high inflation. Corporate greed is mostly to blame for inflation, not anything Biden is doing.
DeleteThis thread quickly turned tribal after all. The request was to comment naming each candidate you will vote for and why he/she is the better choice. The typical name calling and bashing of others has reared its ugly head once again. Sad.
ReplyDeleteWild has made it clear that she doesn't want male officeholders. Just another feminist clown.
ReplyDeleteRetire Pelosi she was not a patriot she did much more harm to the country than the fake media gave her credit for.
ReplyDeleteWaaaayyy too many people are playing checkers here when they should be playing chess.....
ReplyDeleteBoth Oz and Fetterman will do whatever part leadership tells them too while they are freshmen senators. The question is if you want to hand the Senate back over to Mitch McConnell who is near solely responsible for the situation we have with the SCOTUS right now... My clear answer there is NO.
The governor's race should be a no-brainer. If I wanted to live in Alabama or South Carolina, I'd move down there. The weather is far nicer. However, evangelical theocrats should alarm anyone who remembers that we fought for nearly the past 20 years fighting their Muslim equivalent in the Middle East. Plus, I have daughters and gay family members and friends- all of whole would end up with second class citizen status (despite some having served valiantly in our armed services).
Congress seems lost, so while I will vote for Wild- we are going to end up with a MAGA run body that will accomplish nothing in the next 2 years except political retribution and wrath...
The saddest part of all is none of it really matters because we likely have Russian interference on most if not all social media trying to splinter our great nation and hoping we end up in civil war and we have a growing dangerous far right wing movement that feels too close to post Weimar Germany. Notwithstanding, I don't like the current leftist agenda, but history rhymes and dudes at ballot boxes carrying AK's is all I need to know what is going on....
I will be voting straight republican, the economy has been in the toilet since the dems took office, gasoline double in cost per gallon, can’t even afford to eat. Heating costs are out of sight with fuel oil at $6.00 a gallon. My 401 has lost so much money that I’m not sure I can ever retire. So people I may not have Agreed with everything they have done but I was and we were in much better shape then we are with the dems being in office for 2 years.
ReplyDeleteVote Republican folks or say good bye to your life and those of your loved ones., Communism will be the rule and you will have voted for it!
ReplyDelete4:44
ReplyDeleteYou’re no Democrat, you are definitely a good disciple of trump and DeSantis. No Democrat would ever vote for OZ a true carpetbagger, snake oil salesman, con man and disgusting human being.
It’s either him or the brain damaged socialist. Not a great choice but I’ll take a doctor over someone with brain damage.
DeleteThis is why I will vote a straight Democratic ticket.
ReplyDeleteLike Wild they will vote for the following:
The Inflation Reduction Act, a historic investment in the middle-class that:
Lowers health care costs
By allowing Medicare to negotiate the price of prescription drugs
By capping out of pocket expenses for Medicare Part D at $2,000
By capping the cost of insulin for those on Medicare at $35 per month
By providing free vaccines to those on Medicare
Lowers energy costs and creates 9 million jobs
By investing in clean, American made energy
Through tax credits to help Pennsylvania families buy energy-efficient homes, appliances, electric vehicles and more
Cutting emissions and reducing pollution by 40% by 2030
pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which is the most robust job-creating infrastructure package in a century and makes investments to:
Repair and improve Pennsylvania highways and bridges
Improve and strengthen LANTA with a historic investment in public transit
Improve airports in the Greater Lehigh Valley
Expand our state’s electric vehicle charging system
Expand access to reliable, high-speed internet, while strengthening cybersecurity
Replace lead pipes so that every American has safe water to drink
You ought to go into standup comedy. 😆😆😆
DeleteDr. Oz peddled worthless health supplements and since he holds a medical degree he knows it. He made money off sick people's gullibility. You cannot reward this behavior and if you vote for him you can expect more of it.
ReplyDelete"Most people on this blog don’t fully understand how inflation works."
ReplyDeleteSo true and this one proves it. From lefties like Krugman to righties like Friedman, we know that inflation is a direct reflection of monetary policy. That's the federal reserve bank for those who've never had Econ 101, like the brainiac who posted the above idiocy. This is what happens when your education system is as woeful as Pennsylvania's. You breed stupid.
