Without question, the results of Tuesday's election were a firm rebuke of Donald Trump and his MAGA cult. People are sick of him and his mini-mes, like failed NorCo Exec candidate Steve Lynch. In addition, it was almost certainly a reaction to the Supreme Court's Dobbs opinion on abortion. But many people within my party are acting as though we just won some great victory. Here's a newsflash - we lost. We've almost certainly lost control of the House and might lose the Senate as well. We just lost less badly than we thought we would. That's hardly a reason to celebrate. It is rather a memento mori moment. "We the People" do resent extreme Republicans who threaten to bring 20 strong men into a school board meeting and remove school directors. We resent the violent rhetoric. But we also resent the ridiculously absurd priorities of Democratic politicians, who promote issues like transgender inclusion over far more important matters like the economy.
When it comes to issues like the economy and inflation or reducing crime or border security, Republicans have done a better job than we have of articulating the problem. They have messaged better. They just have shitty messengers.
We have failed to message at all, except on issues that mean very little to the typical voter. Frankly, it's a little nauseating to get an email from Allentown's Mayor Tuerk signed ("he, him, his"). Instead of focusing on that, how about doing something about the constant gun violence and the dirt bikes ripping along city streets with no regard for others?
Democrats, not Republicans, have painted themselves as uncaring elitists. The reality is that the Democrats have a pretty good message about the shrinking middle class. They recognize that the reason for this is because wealth has been concentrated over the years into the hands of the few. These 1%ers refuse to pay fair wages for fair work, and would prefer to send jobs overseas than actually pay people. Joe Biden talks about standing up for democracy, The reality is that our supposed republic is slowly but surely morphing onto an oligarchy . The business interests of the wealthiest 10% are reflected in 78% of Congressional decisions, while those of average Americans account for just 5%.
Money misers have conditioned you to think of unions, which have saved countless lives in the coal mines and steel mills, as evil. They even rip public school teachers, who more often than not, dig into their own pockets to help students in need. They've made it impossible for families to afford the homes or apartments in which they live.
We Democrats have some pretty good messages. We can and should communicate these messages in a way that resonates with the blue collars and younger voters. And elect leaders who listen to us, not hedge fund managers.
Good post Bernie. I am sure many share your opinion of American politics in its current state. Both sides need new blood. The solutions to issues are very simple. However, either some right winger who looks like the tiger king will gladly buy into the 20 strong men crap while a purple haired weirdo with 8 piercings, will cry when you arrest the kid on a dirtbike. At some point we need to ignore the loons.
ReplyDeleteWow. Great post Bernie and a great follow up by 8:36. I think John Fetterman did a pretty god job of messaging real world issues and that resonated. He also portrayed himself as a candidate who would work for regular people, not the biz interests of a few. Here’s hoping he follows through.
DeleteTo expand, we need to think about what works for all, not a few loons on either side
DeleteLet's all move to Florida where good government and sanity reigns supreme! I am a lifelong Pennsylvanian who is ashamed that we elected a cretin to be our next Senator. Do-Nothing, Lifelong Politician Casey who got elected on his father's coattails, and now another do-nothing freeloader representing me in the Senate. Pathetic! I am embarrassed to be a Pennsylvanian today.
ReplyDeleteNice post Bernie.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank goodness for ranked choice voting.
Messaging is not the problem, you seem to believe that just put a pretty face and do better bull shitting will fix the problem, no mention of corrupt partisan federal agencies, no mention of an agenda that is not focused on the prosperity of the nation, but some delusional future reality. It is still about a policy that will lead to a decline of the nation in all respect, if not disaster.
ReplyDeleteAs for unions, yes coal miners and steel workers needed unions, they saved lives, now they are the public sector unions that reign and they just keep bleeding the taxpayers relentlessly and the fail to provide the efficient services.
What is the purpose of the teachers union? to make the results of education better or push a social agenda that wants to start political and social indoctrination to elementary school kids., then rewards the cooperating teachers with over the top pensions that drain the resources of the schools.
Messaging is not the problem, It is the objectives of the New democrat party. They are destroying the country.
Right Bernie, focus on the big picture. Local policy or political people don’t really effect our policy standards. As a middle class retired veteran, senior citizen living in a entry level home in Easton, would I care about issues like abortive rights? OR , thanks if my food stamps will be cut off? Of coarse not . I worry that my sons will never see civil war or nuclear war, that my widow will not see poverty, that the hoods won’t show up from N.Y. Or Philadelphia and shoot up our neighborhoods here. Conservative means conservation and doing within your means. Not spending and printing money to hand out to underneath organizations or people. We need to pay attention to historical events that brought down other known civilizations from bad policy standards.
ReplyDeleteIt was a win for all. If the red wave had occurred, Trump would have retained the power he craves and the election deniers he wanted. As a moderate Republican, I didn't don't want him to return to the Oval Office. We'll have a better candidate in 2024.
ReplyDeleteThe GOP has somehow made working people resent unions. That may be the party’s greatest success. It’s a mystery but true.
ReplyDeleteEvery blog post is an opportunity to attack one of God’s most able soldiers Brother Steve Lynch who invoked the “20 strong men’’ as a rhetorical tool not some literal proposition of violent action. Steve has been building a brand for a long time life’s not fair when some clown with a free blog can come in and tear it all apart just because he doesn’t like the messenger; The Lion Of Judah will roar from the dais someday his followers are legion
ReplyDeleteSteve Lynch is the clown. I vote in his area and was ashamed to see that he couldn’t even trouble himself to set up his polling locations and ensure that each had adequate signage and greeters. While others were watching gathering data and working the political machinery to track and win elections, Steve was probably in his truck somewhere doing a live feed with his new friends the “Norco Difference Makers”. What a joke!
DeleteYes
ReplyDeleteBernie. I agree a lot of what you said but, are people really going after school teachers or maybe really things like books in the elementary schools where photos and pages cannot be shown at School Board meetings or regular TV without microphones being turned off and video not shown of the graphic photos. I work for one of our local school districts and you are off base as are others that believe teachers are being targeted. And what should minimum wage be, by the way? $20, $30 dollars?? How high do we go?
ReplyDeleteHousing costs will continue to rise if we just flood the country with people coming here without a penny and the government paying for their housing, food, medical, education,.... My grandparents, from both sides, came over and although one set was successful the other lived a comfortable life and I didn't expect a thing from them. I could go on but enough.
BS Bernie,
ReplyDeleteGen Z came out and voted for the Democrats. They are sick of the establishment and are demanding a work life balance, better benefits, health, vacation, sick time, and pension plans. They will get them and bring back unions. You stated that they are “uncaring elitists” and what wrong with that? It’s not illegal, criminal like trump. When you state “uncaring elitists” your talking trump like, that’s the Republicans articulations to its base. Gen Zers rule, they are smart, they will protest, the will vote and they will bring back the middle class. They know who’s responsible for inflation and they will make sure to tax the rich and business to make sure they pay their fare share.
The solutions are NOT simple and are worthy of vigorous debate to come up with ideas that are doable. Trouble is actual policy making is taking a back seat to tribalism. "I want to know whose team you're on or I won't even listen to your ideas". I heard a conversation outside my polling area that was a perfect example: Guy running for office talking about what he thinks is important to get the country on track, taxing the rich, more local initiatives to fix community problems, etc. Person he was talking to agreed and then asked "what party are you?". Guy says "Democrat" and the person says "nope" and walks away. This is where we are right now. Some blame should go to the media as well because they foment this divisiveness...it brings more ears and eyeballs to their brand to satisfy their corporate ownership's profit margin. When TV news was just that, NEWS, and not hyperbolic chest beating we all heard the same reporting and had a more collective idea about reality. Politics was more serious and deliberative it seems.
ReplyDeleteDems won where people actually live; won control of the state legislature; Republicans only control US House because of gerrymandering.
ReplyDeleteDemocrats are faaaar from being perfect, but I’m confident that the new gen Z voters could change that. I loved the fact that they came out strong to tilt the scales back to the people, instead of greedy corporations and politicians.
ReplyDeleteNothing brings a smile to my face faster than when write “failed NorCo Exec Steve Lynch” I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteThe loons control the debate. Bernie became one of them, too. The middle is sparse and getting sparser.
ReplyDeleteInteresting take. It took six election cycles for voters to rinse the foul taste of Obamacare from their mouths. Those cycles cleaned out Democrats from nearly 1,100 state and federal legislative seats, as well as numerous governors mansions. This is the third cycle of repudiation of Trumpism. Rs should hope they clean up their mess faster than Democrats cleaned up theirs.
ReplyDeleteI think the Fetterman win was a win for Democrats in that it was a "we can put the biggest loser, a lazy, unaccomplished stooge on the ballot and we can still beat the Republican candidate" statement. I find it hard to believe that intelligent and hard-working people like Shapiro and Wild were being genuine when they stated their support for him. They were towing the party line and probably running to the restroom to vomit after their endorsements -- and then they laughed too when that bum beat Oz.
ReplyDeleteDump baggage boy, self-serving trump. He will only split the GOP and play right into the democrats' hands. Elect a man, not a boy - DeSantis 2024/2028
ReplyDeleteThat 78% is a good number, however the Republicans will need to improve upon it. That's exactly what they have done and will do, if only we could gotten Oz and Scheller.
ReplyDeleteThe American people lost none of these politicians will fix energy, inflation, crime, because said he will not change.
ReplyDeleteThe election reflects the country right now, split right down the middle. This is a damn good post. Democrats have become out of touch and seemed beholden to the Woke. Republicans better lose Trump quick or they’ll continue to lose. Exit polling showed overwhelmingly that people do not want Trump or Biden to run again. Should be an interesting two years. My hope is the bipartisan problem solvers caucus gets a lot of influence in this new Congress.
ReplyDeleteAs a former Democrat, I’m finally seeing some common sense in this post, Bernie. Both parties have flaws but the Dems have allowed the party to resemble something directly out of the Communist playbook. This isn’t healthy for our country.
ReplyDeleteVoters spoke and demanded divided government to initiate gridlock and stall a poorly performing government. It was a perfect election. The system works.
ReplyDeleteSteve Lynch will rise from the political ashes of Lisa Schiller like a plume of smoke powerful impossible to contain, his political enemies will be flushed with the force of a coffee enema into the cesspit of failed leftist ideologies alongside Comrade Hugo Chavez, Ché, and chairman Mao.
ReplyDeleteWe lost a seat battle.
ReplyDeleteWe won a moral battle.
The both parties are beholden to corporations and Wall Street. This is the issue as I see it.The middle and low earners will benefit more from the Democrats .The Democrats propose a bill that helps the middle, low earners and poor only. The Republicans say oh no we can't do that it won't be fair to the wealthy. So they craft a deal. The Republicans propose a bill that helps the wealthy and corporations only. The Democrats say oh no we can't do that it won't be fair to the wealthy. So they craft a deal.
ReplyDelete2017 Tax cuts, you do realize the cuts are permanent for the 1% and the middle class return to the 2017 levels incrementally to 2026 when the will be at the 2017 level. That's one example.
Can anyone cite a bill by the Republicans that was only for the middle and low earners? The low earners only were and are included reluctantly to get the bill passed . And maybe if I were wealthy I'd vote Republican so I could keep more of my money , so the poor can get their turkeys in a bag from a church.
Democrats in Pennsylvania WON! They flipped a senate seat from the Republicans, kept the governorship, held all the Dem U.S. House seats, picked up the open seat in the 17th, and took the state house.
ReplyDeleteNationwide, Democrats lost some seats in the U.S. House, but that was mostly due to redistricting.
There was no red wave, thanks to Trump.
Real Republicans know it is time to move on from trump for the betterment of the party.
ReplyDeleteI agree with most of what you wrote and think the Democrats need to do as much soul-searching as the republicans on their messaging. Having said that, can't the main put pronouns in his signature AND address the issues you describe (which are legitimate)?
ReplyDelete"When it comes to issues like the economy and inflation or reducing crime or border security, Republicans have done a better job than we have of articulating the problem."
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to stoke fear for political gain. Legislating solutions, not so much.
"Messaging is not the problem, you seem to believe that just put a pretty face and do better bull shitting will fix the problem"
ReplyDeleteMessaging is vital in a government in which the people have a say. Successful presidents were masters of communication. They knew how to persuade an unwilling public, This is what Plutarch liked about Alcibiades and was the only circumstance under which Plato could stomach democracy. Lincoln was able to persuade an unwilling public on the importance of abolishing slavery. He did it slowly and carefully. FDR slowly persuaded an isolationist nation on the need to help Britain during WWII, which was being bombarded every night. Until Biden, every President I have seen have been masterful communicators. Even Trump, whom I despise, was very effective in appealing to our darker natures. Biden's speech impediment and his tendency to spin tales has made him a terrible communicator. He has many good messages, but has been terrible at effectively persuading the public. This is also why I could not in good conscience vote for Fetterman. Democracy demands communication on all levels, from the bottom up and the top down.
"Democrats in Pennsylvania WON! They flipped a senate seat from the Republicans, kept the governorship, held all the Dem U.S. House seats, picked up the open seat in the 17th, and took the state house."
ReplyDeleteDems in Pa. kept the Gov seat (tie), flipped a US Senate seat (win), lost US Congress statewide (loss), and may have flipped the state house (too soon to tell according to Billy Penn). If we do win the state house, I'd agree it's an overall win in Pa. But not exactly an endorsement.
Pampered Gen Z voters, who have contributed NOTHING to our country want a socialist government that cares for their every need. They are comfortable living in their parents basements, or being spoonfed Marxist doctrine in college, and don't want to work for a living. Just mooch off the government like they have been mooching off their parents. Plenty of time to organize, vote and protest since they don't work a regular job. The Gen Z freeloaders affected the election. Now we have two freeloader Senators from PA. who will feed them the pablum they want.
ReplyDelete"t the Dems have allowed the party to resemble something directly out of the Communist playbook" Think about this for a moment. Just think. I often hear right wingers and AM talk radio refer to Dems as Communists. In Communism, all property is publicly owned and even the means of production is state owned and operated. I know no Democrat, not even Bernie Sanders, who espouses or advocates for any of this. Your belief is a result of constantly being bombarded with lies. Even universal health care or some of the more liberal positions do not even smack of socialism, to say nothing of communism. Do yourself a favor and widen your choice of media outlets. I force myself to listen to AM talk radio to get the perspective of the right. I try to read and listen to foreign outlets like BBC, DeutcheW, France24 and South China Morning Post. I am unable to afford a WSJ subscription, but pick it up when I can. In a democratic form of government, we all have an obligation to inform ourselves as best we can. Some people who do this are liberal. Others are conservative. People like me are bipolar, in that I have both tendencies. I have no quarrel with people who are informed. But the blanket statement that Democrats are communists is simply uninformed. It's as bad as saying that all Rs are fascists.
ReplyDeleteBernie did you hear Biden yesterday--He said he would not change course-does that mean energy prices will stay high and probably go higher. how about inflation, how about the border and all the bad coming from that mess, and many other issues that hurting our people. Bernie the man is crazy keep doing the same you going to get the same results.
ReplyDeleteAnother great post. My parents, both stauch union Democrats (school bus driver & steelworker) might not even recognize today's Democrat Party. Dean Browning ran partially on fighting escalating energy costs and lost to a Democrat who wants to raise the taxes on our electric bills. I hope our party will listen up and start generating moderate candidates who once again advocate for middle class working families, because a lot of Republicans are tapping into these voters.
ReplyDeleteI’m not surprised that most conservatives on here don’t know what socialism is but this example should make it easier for y’all:
ReplyDeleteCapitalism = anybody can be rich
Communism = nobody can be rich
Socialism = anybody can be rich, but nobody should be poor
As a PA resident, I find the election of Fetterman appalling. This is a do nothing man, who lived at home, didn't pay his taxes, and wanted to increase the PA State income tax by 50%. I firmly believe that the "early voting" process was what determined this election. Fettermans team REFUSED to debate early and often. They knew they had a problem. Well, kudos to them for lying to the voting public. They skated just long enough for those couch votes to come flowing in before that debate dabaucle. What a joke, except the joke is on the PA residents.
ReplyDeleteAs for unions, the early creation of unions, especially for public servants with low wages, was meant to bring people into that working sector. Pensions, etc were given to even out the playing field. Now, those same public servants can hold us hostage, all while providing inferior service. Teachers union comes up because it directly affects the future of this country. Why? In PA teachers are paid top 10 in compensation, and where do our children fall nationally? Around 30th. Kind of like making Ferrari payments while driving a VW.Then you have projects that are UNION ONLY.... regardless of cost. Talk about discrimination! The taxpayer has to fund these costly jobs, at a premium, when there are other qualified vetted companys that can do the job for less.
The Democratic party has become a Hollywood joke. Biden is a joke. Kamala is so embarassing, I know why she is hidden. You have Oprah and De Niro telling you who to vote for. Why? Who made them God? They are so OUT of touch with the demographics of the regular democratic voter, it is not even funny.
And Trump. He has got to go. DeSantis is the man, and if everyone focuses on THAT guy, he will be our next President! Last night announcement by a senile POTUS literally made me laugh. "My family and I will discuss running, but I think I am running". Hey Joe, you are too old. You are an embarassment. You have been sucking off the teat of America for 55 years. Get lost.
#TERMLIMITSAREAMUST!!
I just want to remind conservatives on here that democrats introduced a bill that would prevent gas price gouging, and the republicans turned it down.
ReplyDeleteLook it up
All of the Pennsylvania haters here definitely should move to Florida. Then all you'll have to complaint about is the heat and hurricanes, right?
ReplyDeleteBernie you make a few good points. Democratic messaging does need to focus more on economic issues. But the problem is that a fair number of social issues are actually in 'crisis mode.' I would have loved to vote for someone other than Boscola, and I would actually be interested to hear who you think would be a good alternative Dem to run. But the thing is...I need to maintain my bodily autonomy. That's the messaging that works, because it's an actual political crisis and it's PERSONALLY TERRIFYING. I'd love to see things like gender rights and abortion rights codified in PA law so we CAN start talking more loudly about worker's rights and economic issues. I'd LOVE to see the return of unions and to hear that as a big talking point. But when the rights to our bodies are on the line....it's hard to think about anything else.
ReplyDeleteAlso cmon man the mayor can talk about dirt bikes while also signing off 'he/him/his', adding his pronouns to his email signature in no way stops him from paying attention to other issues. But you knew that.
Im glad that Trump and his "candidates" did not do so well.
ReplyDeleteThat should open the door for other more able candidates.
Once Trump is out of the discussion how long will it be that the press and the left and the public unions will start calling the Gov of Florida a Nazi. I recall the time that George Bush was called that.
The extremes of both parties need to go, but they won't. We have been segregated into our little boxes and we are more divided as a nation than we have ever been. That gives the career politicians and bureaucrats the leverage they need to stay in power their entire life.
It was a good run
If Democrats lost, then why are so many Republicans crying?
ReplyDeleteI believe more dems would have voted but for the fear of maga devotees who were told by trump to watch the polls. Also they watched hours of 1/6 violence committed by rioters in maga regalia. I am proud for how much they and their clear headed republicans accomplished this election and hope they knocked back the maga nonsense for a while. I can't blame one person for avoiding the polls for this fear and it is a real fear if you aren't physically strong. And then covid is still out there and if you are high risk you would not go indoors if you could not be guaranteed others indoors would respect cdc guidelines. Noone knew ahead of time voting would go as well as it did. In one way dems did win, in another Maga did through implied intimidation. And yeah, mail in was an option for those who knew about it but not everyone is mail ballot saavy
ReplyDelete@11:03 - Fixed it for you:
ReplyDeleteCapitalism = anybody can be rich
Communism = nobody can be rich
Socialism = anybody can be rich BUT IT'S HARD TO ACHIEVE BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT IS DEEP IN YOUR POCKET, but nobody should be poor IF WEALTH IS REDISTRIBUTED AS THE GOVERNMENT SEES FIT
"Steve Lynch will rise from the political ashes of Lisa Schiller like a plume of smoke powerful impossible to contain, his political enemies will be flushed with the force of a coffee enema into the cesspit of failed leftist ideologies alongside Comrade Hugo Chavez, Ché, and chairman Mao."
ReplyDeleteSteve, you lost. Stick a fork in yourself.
"If Democrats lost, then why are so many Republicans crying?"
ReplyDeleteBecause they expected a red wave, and were bragging about it here for several days before the election. I believed them, too. They proved they are very loud, but they are a minority.
"But when the rights to our bodies are on the line....it's hard to think about anything else."
ReplyDeleteWithout doubt, a woman's personal decisions concerning a pregnancy should be hers to make, and no one else. And that certainly is a front-and-center issue.
You say this Bernie, but you voted for Oz who painted himself as a moderate pro-lifer, but you know he would have voted alongside all the other republicans to ban abortion if given the chance.
DeleteYou say you’re pro-choice, but your voting tells us all otherwise.
As of 2:07 p.m. on Thu., the vote-counters say that Dems may still carry the House and Senate. So tell me again how this is a Dem loss?
ReplyDeleteRepublicans are mad because billionaires spent 881 million ( 643 million was from 20 households) to buy politicians and they lost.
ReplyDelete‘Merica
11:31 better than going broke paying home heating bills this winter thanks to Clueless Joe!
ReplyDelete"As of 2:07 p.m. on Thu., the vote-counters say that Dems may still carry the House and Senate. So tell me again how this is a Dem loss?"
ReplyDeleteYou fail to identify these unnamed vote-counters. The current balance of power in the House is 222 Dems and 213 Rs. Midterm results so far show that Dems clearly won 201 seats and Rs clearly won 211. There are still 30 races too close to call as of this moment. Rs will get the two seats they need. It is an overall win for the Rs, who also captured 24 Governor seats to 22 for Ds. It is just not a red wave or the massive victory predicted by so many. Check out 538, posted just minutes ago: https://fivethirtyeight.com/live-blog/2022-midterm-election/
D's run on a fear based platform that people are losing "rights". "The R's are going to take this, that, and the other thing." It is the most basic form of persuasion and they got the easiest group (scientifically) to be duped, they always do. Messaging is everything; it led to two dead people winning races and Fetterman. They even lead people to believe Abortion is a right, which it isn't. The message this time was that R's are taking abortion, last time is was that they were threatening democracy. There's a reason they didn't run on gun control - that would be taking something from the R's and shooting themselves in the foot (no pun intended). Notice how Trump won? "D's are taking your freedom." It's so simplistic it hurts.
ReplyDeleteOh and Trump endorsements won something like 220 out of the 235 races so this certainly wasn't a repudiation of Trump - completely missed the mark with that connection. R's were outspent where it mattered; which would be a repudiation of McConnell
I feel indebted to Trump for keeping the Clinton Criminal Syndicate out of the White House, and securing the Supreme Court.
ReplyDeleteBut that’s where the support ends. For all of the MAGA propaganda, pretty much all of the people that I know who voted Trump feel the same way.
I believe both parties have 10% of crazies as supporters. I believe that 80% of Americans share more commonality than difference.
I’m a moderate Republican. Many of my friends are moderate Democrats.
The difference between us politically?
Not much.
I'm perfectly comfortable voting for a pro-lifer who agrees supports abortion if it involves "the health of the mother." I actually consider that pro-choice. But this is not a discussion on abortion. It is about the soul-searching and messaging that both parties need.
ReplyDeleteBOTH parties for some odd reason continuously play to their base voters and ignore independents and moderate voters. Maybe thats because these are the folks who are passionate and get involved with their party, then project their views on the party as a whole.
ReplyDeleteBOTH parties do a wonderful job in manipulating their own media ecosystems to scare viewers and listeners into believing that the opposition is mindlessly dumb and has a strong desire to destroy America.
BOTH parties seem to have far too much power over their membership that our elected politicians cannot and will not work with the other party out of fear of making them look good, let alone ever think about calling out members of their own party for any misbehavior or offense.
BOTH parties are highly skilled at hypocrisy.
We desperately need more even keeled, rational and reasonable individuals who can step up, see a problem, then work with various view points to fix the issues that impact the most people.
And how many coal mines and steel mills are we left with?
ReplyDeleteUnions, in most cases have lived out their lifecycle.
No they haven’t, you’re just a poor confused wannabe capitalist that believes you can become wealthy by just “working harder.” You can’t hustle your way out of poverty. Unions help to limit the exploitation that private companies have on their employees because if it was up to them, they’d have us working for free, basically slaves. Stop attempting to appease to capitalist, they’re not going to invite you to their club.
Delete@2:51 stop defending and deflecting for Trump.
ReplyDeleteHe's been involved in the last 4 elections...
2016 - He won by a whisker against a very flawed and unliked Democratic candidate.
2018 - He lost the House.
2020 - He lost the Senate AND the White House.
2022 - GOP won by a whisker in what should have been a BLOW OUT victory.
Face facts - Trump and MAGA is a major drag on Republicans. Continued embrace of this idiot in search of a village will continue to doom the party. McConnell/McCarthy/DeSantis should burn the entire Trump family to the ground at their earliest convenience.
What 3:21 PM might not understand is this. The Democrat Party and Republican Party are two sides of the SAME coin! We’ve all heard the word UniParty being used to describe the problem facing our nation’s voters. That is, career politicians doing everything to remain in power, including back-stabbing other members of their own party!
ReplyDeleteObviously, Democrat politicians will speak against Trump. If Trump succeeds, Democrats are more at risk of losing their seat on the “gravy train.” But, there are several important Republicans in office speaking against Trump, too! The plain-spoken, arrogant Trump is a threat to what they believe to be regular order of the entrenched political class. Trump is seen as a “spoiler” by the Beltway regulars’ power and privilege.
At the moment, Florida’s Ron DeSantis is being shaped as Trump’s replacement. The lukewarm wins by Republicans are being used malign Trump’s influence.
Our country is a mess because our politicians on both sides suck. This could have been the best country in the world, but we are going downhill, and we will continue this slide as long as the current governmental system is in place.
ReplyDeleteThe Big Problem is Biden says he will not change anything result--more inflation. high energy prices, no border, more crime --the voters did one hell of job.
ReplyDeleteIf the average person was like an old Dutchman there wouldn’t be any problems normally in a community. No body wants to admit why , who is creating crime statistics or why Asians do better in advanced schools than us white guys.
ReplyDeleteBO: "You fail to identify these unnamed vote-counters. The current balance of power in the House is 222 Dems and 213 Rs. ReplyDeleteAnd so, by your admission the D's still could keep the House. And you don't even mention the same possibility--likelihood, one could reasonably say--for the Senate. And didn't the Ds increase their governships by two (MA and MD)?
The point is: you're overstating the evidence for a Democratic loss.
You still have failed to ID the unnamed vote counters claiming that Dems might win both the US House and Senate. I have agreed that the Dems might win the Senate, but it's more likely that we will remain at a 50-50 split. Dems might pick up a seat in the Senate. There is no doubt in my mind that Rs are going to win the House. They have 211 seats. They need 218. Overall, the Dems will have lost ground. Rs might end up with 222 seats.. This is not what they had hoped, but the simple reality is that Dems are losing ground and will lose control of the House. No one seriously argues otherwise except you, and you are anonymous.
ReplyDeleteThe extremes control the primaries in both parties. Despite all the claims of socialism and every fear you can imagine, the Dems have some advantages. The Repubs now symbolize civil war, denying election results they don't like, etc. Most Americans are moderate purple. They want a clam and peaceful life. While the economy is usually the big driver of these elections, this time around the Repub messaging weas more about outright anger and revolution that any remedies. The big problem is also their patronage of Trump. His stink remains. They can call Biden names, but incompetence is easier to live with than insanity. I was thrilled to hear some of the cult members talking about how they need Trump again even after this repudiation.
ReplyDeleteThe circus goes on and the least obnoxious and foul people won.
I'm not the original poster, but one analyst is CNN's John King who mentioned the long shot of Dems obtaining 218 seats. He made it clear it was a long shot and not likely, as 3 of the seats would be big upsets in what is expected. I expect Rs will take control of the House, albeit with a slim majority.
ReplyDeleteEven crooked NBC is now predicting Republican control of the House. The Senate will likely end-up 51-49 in favor of Republicans, but we won’t know for sure until the Georgia run-off election is completed in December. By the way, the Trump endorsed candidates showed a VERY high winning percentage across the nation. Actually, there were about 6 million more Republican votes cast than Democrat this year. Donald Trump will continue to be factor right through 2024. Count on that!
ReplyDeletePolitico has a pretty good story. The GOP is going to have a majority, just not the majority they had hoped for. And even iof the Dems retain a House majority, which I do not think possible, they will still have lost because they will have lost seats in the House. I am more hopeful they can pull out 51 seats in the Senate. https://www.politico.com/news/2022/11/11/democrats-house-midterm-elections-00066436
ReplyDeleteGreat post. The media is spinning this as a HUGE "red defeat", and you hit the nail on the head. Republicans will control both the House and Senate once this is finalized. Biden won't be able to use a bathroom without an investigation or money being pulled.
ReplyDeleteNot sure about the Senate. Right now Dems have 48 and Rs have 49. Dems only need 50. If they achieve that, it will be a tie compared t two years ago. If they get 51, it will be a win for the Senate. Basically, the Dems lost. We have no reason to treat this election as a mandate. BOTH parties need to do some soul-searching.
ReplyDeleteBernie, the democrats don’t have to do any soul searching. The Gen Z voter base has spoken in this election and in the next couple years they’ll continue to tilt the scales toward voting for progressive policies. The Conservative Party is dead. Good riddance.
DeleteLook, even if the Senate technically goes majority Republican, it might not provide them any advantage in voting on issues. The term “RINO” is very real. Mitt Romney, Lisa Murkowski, and Susan Collins are all registered Republican . . . but they frequently kill Republican initiatives by voting with the Democrats. It’s been a big problem for the Republicans to overcome. Add to this, the snake named Mitch McConnell who has definitely NOT been helpful to Trump earlier, nor several key Republican candidates running in this election.
ReplyDeleteShould Republicans take the Senate, it will be largely symbolic and not a big hurdle for Democrat initiatives. A true RED WAVE would have meant real Republican control, but that didn’t happen.
This is a dem victory, make no mistake. We did much better than expected. The latest episode of Opening Arguments was pretty interesting. It certainly made me feel better!
ReplyDeleteWow! Even in the races that Dems won, it was by a very small percentage. And you are acting as though this overall loss of seats is some kind of mandate. You need to get your head examined.
ReplyDeleteMAGA republicans have been warning of a civil war since Trump lost in 2020, but little did I know they’d be fighting themselves instead.
ReplyDeleteThe girls are fightin
The girls are fightin
Good. Self implode.
Not even 50 percent of Gen Z was old enough to vote in this election.
ReplyDeleteThis was a generation of kids that was forced to go through active shooter drills. They were told that the solution to school shootings was locking doors and carrying bulletproof backpacks. They were told their safety didn’t matter as some guys gun rights. They were told if they were assaulted by a family member, they’d be forced to carry that child to term.
This is a generation of women watching their rights being stripped away because somebody’s invisible sky daddy might not like it. Gen Z are going to dismantle the system and it’s going to be fucking amazing…
Dems took the Senate. You can make it seem inconsequential because of the tight races, but it's a win. Now looking forward to an upset for the House.

ReplyDeleteYour comment didn't age well.
Yeah, watching Republicans scramble now to get the younger voters should be fun after shunning them for so many years
ReplyDeleteI was worried Dems might lose the Senate, but thought it unlikely. I was certain they would lose the House, and remain so. ABC, FOX and AP are stuck at 211 for a 218 GOP majority. CBS has the GOP at 214 for the needed 218. NBC claims the GOP has hit 219. Rs will retake the House, but barely. They lost the Senate. Rs won the Gov races. Dems won a lot of state house races. Neither party has been endorsed by the voter. Both have soul searching to do.
ReplyDeleteSteve Lynch is having a melt down at Twitter and I’m here for it - hahaha
ReplyDeleteWhat a cuck
Bernie, you keep saying that the dems have soul searching to do, and I wholeheartedly disagree with this. Todays democrats just want all marginalized groups in this country to have equitability. White women in this country predominantly voted Republican in this voting cycle, and that tells me that their proximity to white supremacy and all its benefits, is more important than their own rights. How sad is that. Gen Z voters understand this disparity and vote accordingly. Republicans are the ones that need to listen to Gen Z voters because they single-handedly cancelled out the boomer votes.
ReplyDeleteThe majority of the electorate will be gen z in 2028 and they are very progressive and highly engaged. The future is bright!
ReplyDeleteWhite women: Black, indigenous and people of color, we need to vote against men that are trying to take away our bodily autonomy!!!
ReplyDeleteBIPOC community: Yes, finally, let’s do this!!!
White women: (Vote 75 percent Republican nationwide)
BIPOC: I guess white supremacy is more important than bodily autonomy…
White women: You guys are racist…
