Actually, Lisa Scheller Has Five Problems

Before getting started, let me state I have always found Republican Congressional candidate Lisa Scheller to be responsive and fair-minded. She was very effective as a Lehigh County Comm'r, and her scholarships at LCCC are a Godsend for disadvantaged students. But yesterday, I warned that her ties to right-wing extremists Steve Lynch, Tom Carroll and the very cliquish Tea Party would be problems for her should she win the primary. I neglected to mention two other problems that, in my view, could condemn her candidacy in a slightly Democratic congressional district.

The first of these is her business ties to China. Her opponent, Kevin Dellicker, has hammered her about this repeatedly. His campaign has even created the Ask Lisa Scheller website specifically about her business ties to our biggest competitor.

Scheller is the owner of Silberline Manufacturing, which produces aluminum pigments. This company derives much of its revenue from two manufacturing sites in China. A third plant might be on the way. She also has a partnership with a Chinese Company controlled by that country''s communist party.

In Congress, would Scheller be representing the Lehigh Valley or her own business interests? That's a fair question, and is one I am sure Susan Wild will ask in the general election if Scheller wins in the primary.

The second problem, and this is an issue for both Republicans, is the Supreme Court. We've all heard, correctly or incorrectly, that the Supreme Court is poised to reverse decades of precedent by overturning Roe v. Wade.

This is music to the ears of pro-lifers, but it will enrage the Democratic base and even some Republicans.

The GOP is currently poised to win big in the mid-terms, but it will snatch a defeat out of the jaws of victory with a reversal of Roe v. Wade. Recent polling by Politico and Fox news indicate widespread support for keeping the ruling in place.

Instead of winning an election based on rising food and gas prices, Republicans could lose it for restricting a woman's right to choose what she does with her own body.

  1. Doing legitimate business with China is the most ridiculous argument for not choosing a candidate. There are thousands of items we purchase and use from companies that do business in China, but they draw the line with Scheller. You can’t make this shit up. The cognitive dissonance on the far right is mind numbing.

  2. Hey Bernie,
Please let me know how Inflation would have been handled by the Trump administration?
Besides allowing the virus kill 30% of the population how else would you contain the Rising food and gas prices?
Thankfully, due to Trumps inability to tell the truth only 700,000 Americans died due to COVID-19.
Anyway, Lisa has other problems, like paying her fair share of taxes. I’m starting to hear more people complain about CEOs pay being about 400 to 1. How can she help reform the reformed tax shelters for corporations and wealthy taxpayers?

The January 6th Committee will also be dishing more dirt to the public over the summer as well.

The partisan dipshit/QAnon base won't care, but any independent/moderate voters will be reminded why they kicked the GOP to the curb in 2020, and they will either vote Dem again or stay home.

  6. I find it funny you want to bring China into this. What about the "big guy" (Hunter's words not mine) taking 10% from a Chinese energy company? Or his relationship with the "spy chief of China". Again, Hunter's words. Why not write about the emails where Scheller wanted keys for her Chinese "office mates"? Oh right that was also Hunter and I believe Joe "big guy" was also getting a key. You won't blog these because you have no principles. Receipts below

I did not bring China into this, Dellicker did. As far as Hunter Biden is concerned, there is a federal investigation. I do not care for him and there is little doubt in my mind that both he and Biden's brother attempted to profit from his role as VP. It is common for persons who do things like this to pretend they have influence with "the big guy" that they simply lack.

Just as Biden's son has attempted and is still attempting to profit from his famous father, so were Trump's children and Trump himself.

This is an area that needs legislation.

  10. "Please let me know how Inflation would have been handled by the Trump administration?"

The inflation was caused in large part by the rush of money poured into the economy by the Democrats in Congress to combat the pandemic. They knew this would result in inflation, but were actually helping people stay on their feet. They misjudged how much inflation would skyrocket.

I detest Trump, but he and the GOP were right when they expressed caution.

  11. "Doing legitimate business with China is the most ridiculous argument for not choosing a candidate. There are thousands of items we purchase and use from companies that do business in China, but they draw the line with Scheller."

I find that argument highly persuasive. While we purchase many items made in China, we are not members of Congress and do not own manufacturing facilities there. If we learned anything from Russia's invasion of Ukraine, it should be that we should never rely on our adversaries for anything. Scheller might have as many as three factories there by next year. This makes her a walking conflict of interest. She will have to do their bidding if she wants to stay in business.

  13. I really dislike when people talk about women's rights when the child inside her is affected. What about the child's rights?

She should have never had intercourse if she didn't want a chance to have a child. How is it women's health when it is killing something?

There are other ways to prevent conception.

Just change the wording of your premises and this topic won't be so insulting to everyone.

For all those people champion people's rights like Black Lives Matter, think about who are getting wiped out in these abortions. Mainly poor and minority people. Whole generations.

Yeah, that happens to be the ruling in Roe v. Wade. After the first trimester, the unborn child's rights supersede those of the mother. But during the first trimester, it's a woman's decision. A majority of Americans agree with this.

If you really want to change the discourse about this conversation, then stop saying "child" when referring to a pregnancy. Also, it's not only the woman who chooses to have intercourse--there is another partner involved. Intercourse is not always consensual--rape, incest. There are medical threats to both woman and fetus (not "child")

As the economy plummets, inflation skyrockets, and the Biden administration continues to be a disaster, of course Democrats love this thought that the overruling of Roe and Casey will destroy the red wave in November. That is likely wishful thinking. There is no persuasive reason to think moderates will come out in droves to vote Democrat to protect abortion when the country is falling apart. How is that in American Citizens best interest? Dellicker will be a much more formidable candidate to face Wild. And he will actually show up, unlike Scheller who dodges Debates and questions. Even before the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act—the most expensive bill signed by Donald Trump—the federal government was spending unprecedented amounts due to COVID-19. This act included cash payments to most Americans, housing assistance, boosted unemployment checks, and a pause on student loan repayments, which was recently extended by Biden. These actions may have been necessary at the time, but such policies began under Trump and are contributing to inflationary pressures now.

Putting the pandemic aside, Trump spent extravagantly, spending more in four years than President Barack Obama did in eight. While Biden may be fanning the flames of inflation, Trump collected the kindling and lit the match.

  37. I feel the new 7th congressional district favors a Republican much more than the "old" 7th congressional district we have now. With that being said, I do think that either Scheller or Dellicker has a shot at winning this. I am on the fence which way I will go. Scheller seems to have the financial resources to run when compared to Dellicker. With multiple seats for both parties to try to cover and resources needed across the country, it probably is better that Scheller is the Republican candidate for that reason, although, I may like Dellicker more in some ways.

One thing I would like to mention is the addition of Carbon County to this district. This definitely favors the Republican more and I recall seeing that state Rep Doyle Heffley did circulate a petition for Dellicker. I do not know if this will influence the result, but this is where Dellicker needs to win in my opinion to beat Scheller.

I disagree with the statement above that Susan Wild is like Charlie Dent. She votes with the Democrats pretty much 100% of the time where as Charlie mostly voted Republican, but probably around 85%-90% of the time. Just because Susan Wild is not as far left as AOC, doesn't mean she isn't very liberal. She is not the Paul McHale like we had in the 1990's, which seemed to be more moderate.

The issue with the Republicans is within their own party. If they lose this seat, it is because of fighting within. I am not somebody actively involved with the party, but have been paying attention to what is going on. I think Scheller wins this seat, but both races will be close. I am definitely not a Steve Lynch republican. I do not always agree with Lee Snover, but would side with her more.

Feel free to respond my assessment.

  39. It is sad. Women are aborting unborn children. It is a matter of time before they come for you. How many people do we know that are raped? This is a provision under the abortion laws (legal/civil law and moral/God given law) that an abortion can occur. But after reading these responses lest you forget Covid and all the mandates. How long before are old and forgotten are euthanized? How long before the handicap are pushed aside? How long before it is your turn for being unproductive? How long before your ideologies and freedoms aren't popular or accepted before you are silenced? If our society can get away with killing unborn children (which SCIENCE can prove that this is when life begins) how long before you are silenced? If our government can do anything efficiently it is getting rid of the people. Cancel culture at its finest.

Regan had Michael Regan, George B. had all his kids competing for political positions and board positions they would never have been qualified for if their dad wasn’t president. Do you think Jenna Bush would be on NBC on talent alone? Gerald Ford Foundation and Betty Ford Foundation has provided board positions for his kids. And Trump’s kids- where to begin?? Just had a thought if someone commits' a crime and you help them I believe that is called aiding and abetting. Then why is it if a politician commits a crime and you contribute to their money why should the courts be able to arrest you and try you for aiding and abetting? I guess it is just another case of looking the other way so politicians can take more of your money.

    1. Aiding and abetting would require an actual, direct aid of the crime (like knowingly supplying the murder weapon or driving the getaway car). If the criminal has a friend paying his rent, that's not aiding and abetting a crime. How would you possibly advocate for holding someone responsible for a crime just because they gave the criminal money at some point? If there is a not clear, knowing link that you gave the money FOR THE PURPOSE of aiding the crime, this proposal makes no sense.

  58. @11::01 A criminal charge of "aiding and abetting" or accessory can usually be brought against anyone who helps in the commission of a crime, though legal distinctions vary by state. A person charged with these accomplice crimes is usually not present when the crime itself is committed, but he or she has knowledge of the crime before or after the fact, and may assist in its commission through advice, actions, or financial support. Depending on the degree of involvement, the offender's participation in the crime may rise to the level of conspiracy.

For example, Andy draws a floor plan of a bank, knowing of Dan's intention to rob it. After Dan commits the robbery, Alice agrees to let him store the stolen money at her house. Both Andy and Alice can be charged with aiding and abetting, or acting as accessories to the robbery.

Sounds like alot of politicians, their lawyers, and cronies should be charged with this.

    ReplyDelete
  59. How Are Aiding, Abetting, and Accessory Defined?
As with all crimes, the specific elements depend on the state where the crime takes place. In general, aiding refers to differing degrees of support and abetting involves encouragement. Accessory usually involves actions taken to protect the perpetrator after the crime is committed.

If you were to serve on a jury in a federal court, you would be instructed that the crime of aiding and abetting requires the prosecution to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that:

    A crime was committed;
    The accused intentionally aided, counseled, commanded, induced or procured the person committing the crime;
The accused acted with the intent to facilitate the crime; and
The accused acted before the crime was completed.
Similarly, you would be instructed that the crime of accessory after the fact requires proving that:

The accused knew that a person committed a crime; and
The accused assisted that person with the specific purpose or design to hinder or prevent that person's apprehension, trial or punishment.

  61. Since there are a lot of people here who do not seem to understand the implications of the end of Roe, I am just going let you all know that there are a lot of circumstances beyond the ones you are thinking of that this ruling would allow states to prohibit. These include miscarriages in which the body is unable to expel the fetus, and instances in which developmental or genetic abnormalities cause the fetus to be non-viable. Prohibition of removal of a non-viable or miscarried fetus can greatly increase the risk of harm to the mother without any benefit.

It would also enable states to prohibit some types of birth control which prevent implantation of a fertilized embryo (like IUDs and Plan B).

Because in vitro fertilization often depends on the fertilization of multiple eggs, states could also prohibit IVF, making starting a family more difficult for couples who struggle with fertility.

Finally, many states putting anti-abortion laws into place now do not have exceptions for rape and incest, which effectively places the rights of a fetus above those of the mother in a way that I find inconsistent with the 13th amendment and just a basic level of civility.

  62. @8:51 It may be name calling to some or it might be defining to others. Either way it must have hits its mark and regardless of your outward appearance drilled directly to the core of what you are or you would not have commented.

  68. @4:20 what about paying for the persons flight or driving them to the site of the crime with knowledge of what they were going to Storm the capital or cause a riot at a protest, or helping them take a gun across state lines, Or contributing to a crooked politician who is fighting the conviction. Sounds to me like that fits aiding and abetting.

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
