As we all know, Bethlehem insisted on going ahead with Musikfest despite the highly contagious Delta variant. What followed was a surge of Covid cases in the Lehigh Valley. Moreover, two Bethlehem restaurants had to close temporarily last week because some staff members contracted Covid. It's impossible for me to say whether this is a result of Musikfest, but it sure seems odd. If we actually had real contact tracing, something Governor Tom Wolf promised well over a year ago, we'd know.
Blogger's Note: I decline to name these restaurants because they've suffered enough.
Give up the Musikfest blame game, Bernie. You have no scientific evidence that the festival was a cause of a covid outbreak in the valley. Just keep speculating. It's what you do best.
ReplyDeleteMore likely, the restaurants closed because they couldn’t find enough staff. You know, those still willing to work in today’s new America.
ReplyDeleteWhat superspreader event explains last year's explosion in cases in late November and December? Could it be that variants and outbreaks were expected, per Dr. Fauci?. Why do you listen to him, or not at different times? Stick with science or don't. Or just use the virus to flog whomever you dislike. That's kinda how we all roll now, right? You're vaxxed and chose to travel all over the place, despite knowing you can be a spreader. I didn't go to Musikfest and I wouldn't risk others as you have in other states. You pick and choose. Again, that's where most are. Selfish.
ReplyDeleteEconomic Development contributes to covid in these superspreader events and venues.
ReplyDeleteYou just don't get it, Bernie. Bethlehem elites decided that Musikfest is too much of a darling to think that it could be a contributor to the pandemic. If you had a chance to read or hear local news, the officials were in "close communication" with health and government entities to follow guidelines. I wonder what they were told as that part was not included in the information.
ReplyDelete@12;25 Larger scale function like that do have real impacts. Anytime you put more people in a single area there is prevalence for more things to happen just because of proportionality. Now add to that the transmissibility of COVID and the potential for a spike to occur becomes highly likely unless things like only vaccinated or all masked scenarios occur.
ReplyDeleteTyeing the closing of restaurants to musicfest however may no direct correlation. Yes it could have been a primary cause or it may not have. Did the employees get it because they were serving music fest goers. or did they get it because they contracted it in incidental contact elsewhere. There is no way to fully know.
NO one on either side knows the full truth however proportionality and likelihood increases exponentially when groups gather.
As a side note to the musicfest scenario is that I have read previously over 60% of attendees come from other areas. So we cannot and will not ever know if there is s similar proportionality of increase in their having COVID.
Face it, everyone will eventually contract some form of Covid, everyone, remember flatten the curve, it made sense, now we have eliminate the virus, while this has been effective against some virus's, corona virus' was always considered not likely to be a controllable virus.
ReplyDeleteOut them just as I would for you if my credit card was compromised at any local business that fails to protect protect it's customers.
ReplyDeleteMusikfest, despite its gigantic attendance claims, probably attracts just 150,000 unique individuals. It is primarily outdoors, frequently in hot sun. Superspreader event? Not likely.
ReplyDeleteThe hot sun has been around for three months now. Rates continue to rise rapidly at the same time. How is it not a superspreader event when people are standing in long lines shoulder to shoulder as well as listening to bands and singing and talking amongst each other? In fact if you would look at pictures from local news outlets you can see that most individuals did not wear a mask!
DeleteAt this point any one getting it probably isn't vaccinated and thus shouldn't be crying about contracting it. Hurd Thinning at it's best! Cleaning of the Gene Pool!
ReplyDeleteUntil everyone gets exposure. It's here to stay. Like any other pandemic from human history.
ReplyDeleteNope. Never got measles, polio, mumps etc. Why? VACCINES!
DeleteThe phone companies can tell us how many unique cell phones were in the area. this has been utilized for other large scale events in the past to track counts. I think Musikfest had even utilized it in the past. They could do it again,
ReplyDeleteThe vaccine is available and free. Choose not to to get the shot, it's your own damn fault. We need to stop putting the weight on the shoulders of those of us who did the right thing.
ReplyDelete. . .Man frustrated with the appearance of genital warts, while shunning vaccines and demanding the right to practice unprotected sex with random partners.
We're looking at this wrong.
ReplyDeleteWe know that vaccinations won't necessarily stop the variants, and masks are minimally effective in doing anything.
Instead of worrying about vaccinations, superspreaders, masks, and the like, we need to remember that 78% of those who have serious complications and die from the virus (regardless of vaccination status) are the obese.
So why not just keep the fatties quarantined at home?
It's much easier to identify them than it is to check on everyone's vaccination status. And when you think about it, do they really need to be going out to eat anyway?
Plus, maybe being forced to stay home and away from their Big Macs, Biggie Fries and oversized Coca-Cola will give them some incentive to lose weight, even if it's only so they can once again venture outside to hit their favorite drive-thru.
By keeping them inside, the rest of us who are fit can all get back to as normal of a life as possible, knowing that even if we catch the covid, we're likely to get over it quickly without hospitalization. Even more if you've taken the extra step to get vaccinated.
Plus it might make getting dinner reservations easier, and provide some relief to restaurant owners who are having trouble with staffing anyway. It would also make air travel less cumbersome (who really wants to sit next to someone who's spilling their fat into your seat), and help with global warming (less fuel for planes to fly if passengers are lighter).
Multiple problems solved, and a fitter America to boot!
So let's stop the witch-hunts superspreaders and the unvaccinated, and focus on the real problem that's all around us.
August 24, 4:56. you must be smoking some really good weed or some really bad weed. One can only hope that the word satire was in your vocabulary. On another note you can bet that the two restaurants that closed due to covid are now going to be the cleanest, most sanitized places to dine out in Bethlehem.
ReplyDeleteWant to hear the real fake news about restaurants? They are, and always have been, short staffed. The mindset of many in the industry is that they can quit anytime and start the next day somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteTo be clear these restaurants closed bc staff was sick with covid
ReplyDeleteI can’t believe you make all the accusations and Trumps name isn’t mentioned. He is to blame for this any anything that. Happens in your world. How about those 300 ballots found in that bust in California? I’m sure you say see they stopped the crime before it happened so there was no voter fraud. Trump/DeSantis 2024yeah!
ReplyDeleteThe obesity analogy is inapposite here. Many people are technically obese bc their BMI is high, but come in on the low end on fat tests. This includes many athletes, including my grandson. Assuming you could arrive at an objective determination of obesity, the simple reality is that most of the obese, which has at times included me, would rather be thinner but have a psychological addiction. In some cases it is physical. This means they have limited or no choice. The unvaccinated, in contrast, do have a choice. This is dissimilar to those who are addicted to nicotine or opioids. The only similarity I see is that they all tend to have shorter or unhealthier lives. Also there already are regulations against obesity in certain professions like the military.
ReplyDelete@8:23 The Russian loving dictator Trump you so love dearly would gladly crap on your face and steal your money then he would ever give a d about your your family or the country. He just takes like any dictator. Is is Putin's puppet and has been for a long long time since his family has been tied with the Russian Mob and then also with his Russian block dolls and so on. Russia helped him win the election, has deep information on him, has a direct over his wife, son with her and her family, Launders money for him while also praying on his vanity to their benefit. Heck he was the one that set the agreement to be out of Afghanistan by 09/11 of 2021 while also praising the Taliban. His preferred world is Dictator TRUMP and all the people that get on their knees in front of him. And the real problem with most of his cult followers is that they really don't understand he only things of his minimoons as cash cows and slave under any other name you chose.
ReplyDeleteI may have missed this point. How is he different than any politician?
Delete@4:456 i suppose you a specimen of physical perfection.
ReplyDelete@ 8:23. The story on the ballots is that the guy who took them was a typical trump cultist (drunk and felon) and took the ballots from Democrats.
ReplyDeleteEverybody will get sick. The unvaxxed will get sicker and die. Get vaxxed. Go out and play. If you can't get vaxxed, I'm sorry. You caught a tough break in life and can't go outside. Unvaxxed by choice may simply die at this point. I don't care for your safety. There's nothing wrong with the rest of us attending whatever we want. You had a chance and a choice. F off.
ReplyDelete@8:16
ReplyDelete*Sick* with COVID or tested positive?
