Tuerk Unofficially Wins Allentown Mayoral Primary

Allentown's next Mayor will be Latin. It will be either Democrat Matt Tuerk or Republican Tim Ramos. Now that Lehigh County elections officials have tallied the mail-in ballots, Tuerk has emerged as the Democratic nominee (2,048), followed by Ray O'Connell (1,933), Julio Guridy (1,907) and Ce-Ce Gerlach (1,802).

Tuerk's 115-vote margin could be reversed once canvassing begins, but that is rare.

Guridy certainly had the momentum, but only garnered 343 MIBs.

I wonder if Nat regrets not running now. If Matt is confirmed I wish him the best for him and our city.

  3. Matt is a decent guy with a fascinating history. He will promote economic development in the city and will not get the police force. He's the opposite of community activist/anarchist Me Me Gerlach. Thank God she came in last. There is still hope for Allentown.

  4. "let the depopulation of Allentown continue"

Why would you feel the need to make such an ignorant and irrelevant remark on a dignified blog that is reporting important election result information? The depopulation of Allentown? What does that even mean? it sounds like it was intended as an ignorant, racist remark. Allentown is a growing City and is a great place to live for all of it's very diverse residents. I'm very glad that Tuerk beat the anti-police candidate Ce Ce Gerlach. Tuerk seems like a good fit for the City and I'll continue to be optimistic about Allentown's future in this region over the next several decades. Maybe your little backwater where you live will get "depopulated" over the next 20 or 30 years and you'll want to move to Allentown!

  5. Bernie on Tuerk from February of this year:

"What bothers me is that many of his contributors are part of the Jenn Mann mob. In addition, I see big donations from architects, "consultants" and, of course lawyers. These folks will all want something."

    Here we go again .......

I think the writer is suggesting white flight, which is obvious bigotry. My sole concern about Tuerk is his connection to the Mann mob. I will be looking very carefully to see what is steered to her clients. Hopefully nothing goes to her or to Charlie Thiehl. I am by nature suspicious and like Ray. But I wish Tuerk the best so long as he remains ethical. If he strays, I will be pointing it out as I did with Fed Ed and most recently, Gerlach. I will also be among the first to commend him if he governs wisely

  7. With Cynthia Moto re-elected to City Council and Ce-Ce Gerlach and Candida Affa having two years left in their terms . The potential election of Natalie Santos to City Council would mean in November that perhaps in the history of Allentown the women have a majority on the Board. Congratulations to these women and to Darryl Hendricks and Ed Zucal for their apparent advance to general election and potential re-election to Council... Rounding out City council for 2022-23 Is Joshua Siegel the only individual on Council that lives east of the Lehigh River ... The hope of East Allentown that Siegel must understand that when he deliberates and presents proposals on Council he must realize where he lives .... Indeed a Councilperson must represent the entire viewpoint of all the citizens of Allentown ... But our Democracy supposedly protects minority interests ( and perhaps the East Side is a sectional population minority) from being abused by the majority or underserved by the majority ... So it is definitely an obligation of Siegel as a resident in this sectional minority even though he lives in a rental community in that section to remember the East Side in his service. I offer my future encouragement to Tito Babyan and East Sider who fell short in his bid for City Council ... From experience I know how tough it is for a East Sider relatively unknown and not attached to certain interests to win. And I encourage Robert Smith Jr. another East Sider, and I hope I don't jinx him by saying that, to accelerate his quest to regain a seat on the School Board... There are no East Siders on the current school board and that is not right. It will be tough though because in this apparent Democratic town he is only on the Republican ballot.

  8. Keep an eye on Tim Ramos, his campaign may have a more favorable outlook for November based on the primary outcomes. He is a solid campaigner and will no doubt look to gain cross over support from those who voted for Guridy, O'Connell and Gerlach. I've spoken to him several times and he is very independent and has good ideas for Allentown. Much of Ramos's policy platform will appeal to working class Democratic voters. I will not be surprised if he makes it a little interesting in the general election.

  9. He is a product of the economic development cabal. Much like Bethlehem, Allentown will be handed over to developers, who like locusts, suck up all the space and money then retreat to their out of the city mansions with restrictive zoning.

It is the last days of the livable LV.

Having an economic development background isn't so bad..at least he isn't running around with radicals like Josh Siegel raising his fist and shouting F%&@ the Police! I am super glad any candidate won besides Gerlach.
