Fishers at Saucon Park

According to a 2017 report in Philly Voice, fishers were nonexistent in Northampton County. These members of the weasel family, which apparently will eat anything but fish, have returned. Holly Alston, who lives near Saucon Park, is unhappy. "The screaming they do at night, it's like something you hear in a horror movie," she notes on the popular Complainers of Bethlehem Facebook page.

They are pretty bad ass. Adult males can grow up to 4' in length. They are carnivores and will even eat each other. This might explain why Alston's turkey is missing. But unprovoked attacks on humans are rare. We must taste lousy.

  1. About 3 years ago, one of these skulked up my property line. I had no idea what it was. It's size was kind of scary.

  6. I don't know. Minks do not scream at night the way fishers do. That's what persuades me bc that is what she reports. I'm tempted to go and listen.

  7. E Allen critter was about 3' long incl tail. Minks are a bit smaller. PA has also had marten sightings. But they're also smaller than fishers.

  8. What she could be hearing at night could be foxes. A call to the local Pa. Game Commission officer may put her mind to ease. Fishers are very rare in Pa. although I understand they are making a comeback. Otters are becoming more visible in this area.
