Ray O'Connell Kicks Off Mayoral Bid With $8.40

Brother, can you spare a dime? In stark contrast to the money-making operation that disgraced former Allentown Mayor Edwin "Fed Ed" Pawlowski ran, current Mayor Ray O'Connell declined to use his incumbency to raise money. His year end report for 2019 shows he had just $8.40 in his campaign warchest. Shit, even I have more money.

Ce-Ce "Me-Me" Gerlach, however, has spent 2020 funding herself while attempting to defund the police. She raised $32,448, which tells me she decided to run for Mayor long ago. She has spent $15,500 and not on the homeless. She had $23,948 to start the new year.

Matt Tuerk comes from the world of economic development, and it shows in his year-end report. He raised $36,473, and tells me he now has $60k. What bothers me is that many of his contributors are part of the Jenn Mann mob. In addition, I see big donations from architects, "consultants" and, of course lawyers. These folks will all want something. But the money will help him gain something he lacks - name recognition.

Agree. Can't the same be said of Lamont McClure?

  2. This guy is not mayor material and gets a F for his snow storm response.

  3. Really tired of the "old guard". I thought this guy wasn't going to run again? How did he convince Hyman to back off? "Same ----, different day"

  4. Why don't you like the Mann Mob?

  5. I will discuss that in an upcoming post.

  6. You get what you vote for Allentown. If you vote in CeCe or that other clown you are voting for the demise of what's left of Allentown.

  7. Julio would be the best choice at this point because he is representative of Allentown majority. He has been there in the good and bad times that has been Allentown makeup like lipstick on a pig.

  8. Those of you actual Allentown residents with petty complaints about the snow response (which I thought was good) and "the old guard" etc. will have plenty of legitimate complaints if Me Me gets elected, which is very likely to happen. Imagine inept and inexperienced management of the City leading to reduced police coverage, diminished services and sharp property and earned income tax increases just for starters. I suggest that you not worry about why Hyman "backed off" but instead join him in support of O'Connell and hope like hell Me Me isn't in charge of PA's 3rd largest City. She will make Roy Afflerbach look halfway decent.

  9. I hope he puts his campaign sign up in the junk yard again.

  10. Can't decide if going in with eight bucks is cute and folksy, or incredibly arrogant because democracy is dead in Allentown and this thing is already over. Ray and Ed are different people, but a common link to continued decline in Allentown. Ray is the same level of incompetence with a more believable smile. Allentown will never get better because democracy is dead there.

  11. One thought about Tuerk, Why would you leave a job that I heard was paying $ 140,000 to $145,000 for a job that pays $95,000.
    Seems very strange.
Heard he wasn't very well liked at LVEDC ???
If he looses. will Big Don take him back.
Risky gamble to say the least ???
    CeCe would destroy the NIZ.
She would definitely try to defund the APD.
She tells people exactly what they want to hear and they buy it.
    She is shallow.

  12. CeCe may be incompetent and dishonest but at least she doesn't try to hide it. O'Connell was on city council and had a first hand view of corruption during Pawlowski's term yet said nothing. He is definitely incompetent, dishonest and lies about it. Besides, there are no honest politicians remaining in Allentown so at this point,"What difference does it make?"

  14. O'Connell was a big part of the decline of allentown schools--now he is doing the same to the city.

  15. If I recall , I retired with Ray.
We retired in 2007 (14 years ago).
When we were employed ,parents from surrounding school districts would pay tuition to send their kids to the ASD.
Also, Dieruff High School was a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.
He was also a part of that ?????
