Trump and Biden Both Effective in Final Debate

President Donald Trump and former VP Joe Biden both delivered strong performances at last night's final debate, at Belmont University, in advance of the November 3 election. Trump was much more disciplined. Biden finally seemed relaxed enough to avoid stumbling over talking points and use his own words. Both candidates delivered effective blows. My guess is that most of you will give the win to whomever you supported. I'd give the win to Kristen Welker, who did an excellent job as moderator. I'd also say it was a win for America. We came away informed.

At the first debate between President Donald Trump and VP Joe Biden, Trump's family refused to wear masks. Melania came in wearing one, but took it if as soon as she was seated. She and other Trumps refused masks when offered. It was a lot different at last night's final debate, in which guests were told masks were mandatory. Refusal to keep a mask on would mean the person would be ejected. So last night, the entire audience was finally masked, as it should have been the first time.

Trump was over-reaching on the supposed corruption. Biden was pretty clear when he said that "I have not taken a penny from any foreign source in my life." Moreover, Biden was speaking to the American people while Trump just addressed his base.

"This guy is a dog whistle as big as a fog horn," Biden said of Trump's antics.

I thought Trump showed no empathy when speaking of the pandemic, but Biden also blundered when he said he wants to phase out fossil fuels in a few short years.

Biden has been portrayed as someone in the throes of dementia, but he was sharp and responsive. He occasionally stumbled over words, not because of mental deficiency, but because he has a stutter.

Trump was effective in pointing out that Biden has had 47 years to do the things he's wanted to do. He was idiotic when he likened himself to Abraham Lincoln.

Both candidates appeared mostly Presidential.

    Is that empathy?

  2. Trump still tried to boss around the moderator. It's just rude.

  3. You are obviously in the tank for Baba Biden. You are making demagogy statements about the President. Biden was confused and lost his train of thought on many occasions. His fitness to serve is in question. He claimed there will be another 200thousand dead by the end of the year> He said that, he is either incompetent or nuts.

    1. There's no question about Trump's fitness to serve. It's crystal clear he's totally unfit to serve.

  5. I still think Trump struggled to clearly and intelligently contrast his policy positions with Biden's. I thought Trump was strongest when arguing for keeping the economy open where Biden appeared weak when falling back on his mantra of mask wearing at all times and that we might be in the pandemic until 2022. Trump simply couldn't stop falling back on personal attacks when I felt he was in a better position than Biden to argue policy points such as a stronger economy, energy independence and public safety. I view public safety as one of Trump's strongest policy positions and this issue barely came up. I felt Biden relied upon too many pre-rehearsed career politician type lines throughout. I'd call it a tie and better television than the Eagles Giants.

  6. It was a step in the right direction, there was some discussion on policy and issues, Why foreign policy was not a topic is hard to understand. Generally people did receive some relevant information.

  8. Overall MUCH better than first debate by everyone involved.

Agree that nothing happened or was said last night that will change the minds of any voters. Both sides will high five themselves and celebrate their victories, but certainly it wasn't a game changer in the grand scheme of things.

  10. Pay more attention to the evidence of Biden money laundering of bribes from Ukraine and China. Very important. Unfortunately, it will be hidden by most media, even locally.

The U.S military has 200,000 active-service members deployed in at least 170 countries worldwide.

There should be at least one debate about some of our real problems both here and around the world, this debate was a hoax.

Of course he didn't, it's a family thing, by the time it gets to "The Big Guy" it's all cleaned up at the LLC laundromat.

Like when he called Trump "Abraham Lincoln" and made reference to "the Poor Boys"?

Or when he getting tired after the first half hour of the debate and was looking at his watch? In fairness, someone may have been texting him answers to his smart watch.

I'd imagine the debate was quite a lot for Joe, given that he only was sequestered for four days prior and it was well past his bedtime.

Where's Biden hidin' today? I think Trump has two rallies scheduled.

  15. Lies by Biden 99% ? Lets see, he did not tell the truth when it came to Obama care, although I know more than one person who benefited, some who would have had no health care at all except for ACA.
Technically did not lie about denying a quote from tRump about fracking which the orange one of course could not resist embellishing.
Beijing Donny? Well, he didn't close his account in China as he stated. He was taxed there and had to pay more than what he paid in the U.S., so unless they have a tax code where China taxes you for making no income I would say that having no business dealings in China is a definite fib.
U.S. taxes? thinks the $750 he paid in taxes was just a filing fee? Doesn't exist. And don't forget that this is the guy that before becoming president bellowed that the presidential candidates should show their taxes, and yet again at the debate made the false claim that he could not show his taxes because he was being audited. Absolutely false.
Healthcare? Still claims, as he has for years now, the plan will be out within a few weeks (right along with the Covid vaccine). And let's not forget that while he claims that his illusive plan will cover pre-existing conditions, while the Repubs are actively in court trying to remove that current clause.
Covid: OMG, pick a statement, any statement.
I voted before the debate, but I just hope anyone who is on the fence would take the time to just research the statements made on both sides and you would realize that there is a difference of a turd on your lawn and a cesspool of lies, corruption, and ineptitude.

  16. @7:24 AM - Russia and Ukraine have been engaged in a soft war since 2014 that includes Russia annexing Crimea. Russia has been financing a campaign against the legitimate elected government of Ukraine by providing aid to "Pro-Russian" groups in Ukraine, including, wait for it, manipulating social media and waging disinformation campaigns aimed at creating unrest and further dividing the citizens of the country. Does this last part sound familiar to you?

I am sure in time a smoking gun of sorts will be revealed once Trump is out of the equation, but of course there is no "evidence" that Russians are behind the whole Hunter Biden laptop, but lets be real, if it sounds like a duck and looks like a duck, it's probably the Russians.

This whole "scandal" would have more legs and credibility if it wasn't coming from a country that Russia is actively trying to destroy. Luckily, most Americans see it for what it is. Also a little over a year ago, Trump was begging that country to provide dirt for him on Biden, he got his wrist slapped over it just before COVID hit.

  21. 8:41. Clearly a Trumper. The moderation was definitely better but she let Trump keep talking over her numerous times. Biden didnt do this, but then Biden is a gentleman.

  22. I understand Biden was caught on camera checking his watch during the debate.

Remember when that was supposed to be the biggest "take-away" from a debate? I guess it only matters when the media think it should matter.

How about the number of times that Trump went over time, continued talking after being "interrupted" the first time needing, another interruption, and another, and another. The man can't shut his Big Mac hole when asked the first time.
Lies? Trump spent the night spewing lies he garnered from QAnon and Russian trolls.

Trump did do better than last time because he spoke in a lower volume and a mute button kept him under control for 2 minutes during each segment, but it was still the same BS from the failed President/bankruptcy king.

  25. I wish they'd focused more on foreign policy. The normalization agreements with Israel are stunning and historic. The Saudis are probably next. After Carter and Camp David, we've done nothing but kill and be killed in the Middle East by presidents of both parties. This is a refreshing change.

  26. Sounds like many on here are wishing for a new America in 2021. Welcome to the USSA
( Unified Socialist States of America) . Apparently they didn't here the crazy one tell America last night he is going to eliminate gas and oil. That means all you party socialist hypocrites out there better not be seen driving a car, taking a train or plane, heating your home with gas, coal, oil or wood. You won't survive . Not to mention going to the green deal clear cuts millions of acres of land for the wind turbines and solar panels that will be needed to supply the country with power. How does that help the environment? Soil erosion and no tree or plant growth which leads to heating the earth surface. Oops, that can't be true. Look it up, not fake news. Believe in the real science like some of you preach. But that doesn't meet your agenda. Ask the people in California how this is working for them.

  27. Say no to Joe and his party's political agenda on its American demise. That party sold America down the river many a presidents ago and all belong in jail or heads lopped off for High Treason!

  28. 3:13,
You listening to Limbaugh, Carlson, or Hannity?
Biden is talking about transitioning from our dependence on oil to renewable sources of energy.
Can it be done in a decade? I doubt it, but it has to get started to replace oil where it is able to do so. Cars, home heating, electricity production, to name a few. As to your baseless claims of destroying the earth because of soil erosion and "no tree or plant growth," I don't need to look up BS. You provide enough with no links to independent scientific conclusions.
How come you didn't mention how all the birds will die and everyone will get cancer from wind turbines, like the Trump has told us in the past?
I only wish Biden would have come out and said he would BAN ALL FRACKING, not just fracking on protected land. It's one of nastiest methods of collecting oil and gas. Unknown chemical waste (proprietary formulas protected, thanks to G. W. Bush and Cheney) seeping into underground aquifers through the production process or disposal of the recaptured mixture into deep bore holes. I saw a fracking field when fracking was profitable. Most disgusting and disturbing things I ever saw (other than a picture of Trump sitting in the Oval Office).

  29. Yeah, Trump more civil, but offering very little! No new ideas, and no new health care plan, if the Affordable Care Act is struck down by Supreme Court! Think about that, most everyone has someone in their family with a pre-existing condition! GONE!
He just shoots down anything America needs for our future! No new policies!
No ideas for helping with the Virus! Just keeps saying the Vaccine is coming!
His only claim, is best economy ever! Worst for the US, with a growing deficit, higher than ever!
    He continues to divide Americans!
He is the Herbert Hoover of this century, but much worse!
Biden isn’t perfect, but what our Country needs! Regularly lying politician, not a chronic liar, Trump a malignant narcissist!
American will discover her democracy and Vote him out!

  31. Vote for peace instead of endless wars that send our young men and women to die for the military industrial complex. Vote for Trump. He's the greatest peace maker in 150 years. Scoreboard. No new wars. Ending those he inherited. No pallets of cash deals. No kids dying. Ask yourselves why his own party's establishment war mongers hate his guts. Dems used to protest for peace. Vote Trump for peace. Walk away from each party's war addicts.

  33. @10:22 am, The Russians had nothing to do with Hunter Biden dropping off his computers to get repaired, did they? There has been nothing from the Bidens to say that the emails have been faked. The Russian connection to this story is an obvious hoax.

  34. 10:05,
    Stop drinking the Hannity Kool-aid.

A guy tells a computer repairman he needs his laptop fixed and identifies himself as Hunter Biden, who apparently left no contact information. The repairman, who can't identify him as Hunter Biden because of poor eyesight has Trump operatives showing up to get access to it.
Giuliani, the dim-witted pawn being used by the Russians, gets the hard drive and drops it off to the New York Post, which in turn publishes the story, despite the story writer refusing to put his name on the article because he had doubts about it.

Yep. No Russian involvement in this attempt to smear Biden, the candidate.

  36. BO, I thought Biden was going to unite us? He is supposedly the good and decent candidate. Yesterday, he called Trump supporters, at the very least 46% of the voters in this state, "chumps." Reminds me of the of the"basket of deplorables" comment from Hillary. This stuff needs to stop on both sides. People are losing friendships over politics, family members not speaking over politics, it's not good for the country.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Knock off the dishonest nonsense. What you dishonestly fail to point out is that some people were heckling Biden at a rally, and despite their attempts to interfere, Biden said he would even represent and serve that group of "chumps." So yes, he is a uniter, while Trump calls on his supporters to assault his hecklers. You are dishonest.

    ReplyDelete
  38. What’s most telling is there were more Trump supporters outside Biden’s rally in his home community, than there were inside Biden’s rally.
