Best Wishes for President and Melania Trump

Both President Donald Trump and the First Lady,  Melania, have tested positive for Covid-19. The President is reportedly experiencing mild symptoms. While readers of this blog know I detest him as President, I hope he and his wife recover quickly.

We can keep professional basketball players safe inside a bubble, but that's impossible for a President seeking re-election.

If Trump becomes seriously ill, he or the cabinet can designate VP Pence as Acting President under the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution. Pence has tested negative.

The line of succession would be Pence (VP), Pelosi (Speaker), Pompeo (Sec'y of State), Mnuchin (Sec'y of Treasury).

I detest trump yet hope he manages to overcome the danger he and Melania face.

  2. I have just rejected a comment taking a perverse delight in Trump's illness. I will not host any comments expressing schadenfreude. We should be better than that. Just because Trump has derided others, that is no excuse for deriding him.

  3. I detest Trump and the swamp things he placed in our government. Therefore, I hope they will get better soon so the American people can have the election next month and vote the bums out. Nothing will save them from the oncoming landslide. Time for us to make America Great again and vote these bums out.

  4. I would not wish illness on anyone, but to be honest, Trump kept tempting fate, and it did bite him in the ass. I am looking forward to seeing SNL this weekend. Their take on all this will likely be priceless.

  5. Bernie,
I don't agree with much that you post. But I do appreciate your sentiments on this issue. Way past time for all of us Americans to get rid of the hate.

  6. Why is bad to express delight in his illness? He downplayed it and over 210,000 people died because he downplayed it. I think this is the ultimate in karma. He walked around without a mask and exposed countless people to it and didn't really care. Typhoid Mary... Corona Trump. He CAUSED so many additional deaths by standing by. He told hate groups to stand by. Now he is sick. Where does it end? He claims Biden is going to destroy the country.

Still, he needs to recover. He has so many criminal charges, tax fraud and loads of other things to answer for after this is over. Maybe his brainwashed base will finally see it really is a problem.

He has caused so much stress and pain in my chest with this divisive rhetoric. Family and friends against each other. You can no longer have a political discussion with ANYONE because of him.

  7. Now Trump doesn't need to take the vaccine shot.

By the time that potion comes out nobody important will need it...just the masses.

Rollup your sleeve folks their about to roll out the shot, I suspect.

  8. It is fascinating that even with him being sick and spending so much time saying it is fake news and no big deal, his republican base is calling on china to answer for getting Trump sick.

    Really?

    ReplyDelete
  9. He’ll be fine. This is just a distraction.

  10. Trump has the opportunity or at least his campaign could start telling folks to wear masks and follow distancing guidelines
trump could even pick up some credit for doing so.
All he has to do is tell his followers that patriots wear MAGA lettered masks.
He can spin it and show that covid is a serious deal and he needs their help to knock it down.
Additionally he could make the push for masks for reducing the seasonal flu which kills thousands..

  11. I get the karma observation. But as I age, I try to avoid taking pleasure in the physical misfortunes of another. Fortunately, doctors know a lot more now about the virus than they did in January,

  12. I salute you Bernie if you can honestly say you don't have an evil streak that isn't getting satisfaction in seeing him having to deal with the virus on a very personal level. He's either going to come away from this screaming Hoax! louder than ever, or will take charge and do what he should have done 8 months ago - take it seriously. With any luck at all, he'll find some real sense of responsibility for what he allowed to happen, and compassion for those whose families and lives have been turned upside-down because he was more concerned with optics.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I remember the KARMA surrounding AIDS, with as much as a 6 year incubation period, with young folks dropping dead, you couldn't even shut the bathhouses down without being called a homophobe.

ACT UP literally had the gay community and those affected by the AIDS virus begging for the poison AZT that mimics the symptoms of AIDS, like those clamoring for a vaccine now.

Back then, people said they got AIDS because of their sin, like those now who say not wearing a mask is sinful and rude and causes covid-19.

The politics of these two viruses is a fascinating study in social manipulation and control.

  14. I just want to see Trump get better so he can experience what it is like to got to jail.

  15. As an american I would hope everyone would be praying for our President and his wife. You all will answer someday for your thoughts and actions.

  16. I guess I’ll be the minority in this and argue the point that Trump downplayed this. First, I don’t know that I would want a sky-is-falling scenario, but whatever. Trump is one of the few not willing to let China off the hook on this, but because that appears like discrimination to the left, he is derided. This democrat sees this as bioterrorism without a doubt, but we can’t hurt China’s feelings.

  17. "I salute you Bernie if you can honestly say you don't have an evil streak that isn't getting satisfaction in seeing him having to deal with the virus on a very personal level."

Of course I do. But I also know it's wrong to take satisfaction in the suffering of others, whether deserved or not.

  18. "I guess I’ll be the minority in this and argue the point that Trump downplayed this."

Trump himself has acknowledged he downplayed this. You are not just in the minority, but flat out wrong.

  19. I wish the best for Trump and Melanie, and all those infected around him!
Just pray he didn’t give it to Biden too!
Carelessness, and a disregard for public health of us all by Trump!
Sometimes it catches up with people!
Luckily he got it now, when treatments are much better, and more options with plasma and meds, rather than straight to the ventilator! I had an elderly relative survive two months ago due to this!
Hope he survives and then leads us better through this virus!
Wear your masks, keep your social distance and most people will be safe!

  20. So now that the law of the virus has taken it's toll, when will the law of the land take it's toll?
    Denied - Lied - Golfed!

  21. No doubt, this illness to the President and First Lady will strengthen the efforts of their supporters to keep both in the White House. Democrats would be wise not to fuel their determination by flaunting satisfaction at a time like this.

    ReplyDelete
  22. For all practical purposes, Trump has lost the election. Final nail in the coffin and all that. Hopefully he will recover, as well as all the other people he's infected and caused to be infected.

A prudent warning to political rivals domestically also applies to international competitors and foes, don't think us so divided that now is a good time to mess with the US, it won't play well for you.

Some may think Trump an orange clown but he's our orange clown.

Yet he was not quarantined and went to intimate fundraisers etc. The point is, neither he nor his staff can be trusted on this issue.

  28. Trump's doctor said this morning that the diagnosis was 72 hours ago. No link, but it's all over the telly. That means Wed. morning, before he went to Minn.

  30. Not at all. I don't have to expose my readers to your noxious fumes or your multiple attempts to hijack this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 2:26, 2:34. Trump was told Hope Hicks was ill on Thursday and attended a fundraiser. His test late Thursday confirmed he was infected. So he did not know he had Covid at the time of the debate. He first began exhibiting symptoms on Friday. https://people.com/politics/donald-trump-covid-19-timeline-of-events/

    ReplyDelete
  32. The point is that they let him attend knowing he had been in close contact for an extended time period with an infected person and let him go to the fundraiser anyway. Completely against medical protocols for COVID. No one should trust anything coming out of this White House. They are also lying about just how sick Trump is. New York Times has spoken to some White House sources who say that he was having trouble breathing on Friday and his blood oxygen levels were declining and THAT'S why they hospitalized him. The White House physician etc are spewing the "everything is fine" BS. No trust in any of them to tell the American people what is really happening.

    ReplyDelete
  33. As opposed to someone who does not sign his name, and you distorted the NYT story. Look, if you want to be believable, do not make generalizations, do not distort, provide links to your claims, and identify yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Trump's doctor now claims that he mistakenly said 72 hours rather than Day 3. Now we just have to decide whether to believe him.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I am having a really hard time engendering any sympathy or compassion since he has none for 200,000 that he helped to kill. He's a monster. I guess I'm a bad person and willing to put my name to this. Yet, I don't want him to die as I don't want to be deprived of beating him on November 3. Sick dude on so many levels. My Mother never let us use the word hate so I won't. But I do despise him. He is an existential threat to our democracy as well as to many of us on an individual level. Who knows, even now, what's real and what's not. I just hope he didn't infect Joe and Jill Biden.

    ReplyDelete
  36. You allowed that last rant, but nothing critical of the monster Trump haters. How fair.

    ReplyDelete
  37. What happened to your call for civility in the wake of Trump's illness? You are allowing one vicious hater after another dump bile on someone you claim to offer "best wishes." Your blog has reached new depths.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anyone who wishes harm and illness on another is disgusting. I am incredibly disappointed in those who do. Not what I expect from citizens of the greatest country on earth. I expect kindness and compassion for all. Those who have no empathy are just mean people. I'm grateful I am not one. My mother raised me better than that. I continue to pray for our President. I pray you all find it in your hearts to do the same. I pray for you too. Those who just have hearts full of hatred.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The Democrats are looking very hard for anything that would take Trump out of the election. Every tiny detail, every unproven claim is thrown up against a wall in hope that it sticks.

Well, with 4 weeks to go before the election, nothing seems to be working to bring down the current President. Indications of every kind show the approval and enthusiasm for him continues to rise. What’s that you say? Oh, “That’s not true!” Sounds familiar.

Just vote. But, do it honestly, please.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I have allowed no comments that wish harm on another.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm sorry, but Trump has taken himself out of the election, not Democrats. It appears that his failure and his administration's failure to follow CDC guidance regarding masks and social distancing, is what has taken himself, his campaign manager and some of his top aides out. They refused to don masks at the debate as well, and joked about their refusal. Melania Trump came out wearing a mask, but removed it. Donald Trump, Jr joked about being thrown into a gulag. They need to wear masks and social distance. It is not hard. It is minimally inconvenient. It is no more a burden on civil rights than requiring clothing in public places.

I was heartened by his video last night. He sounds optimistic and I'm sure he has the right attitude to overcome this illness. I wish him well and hope he makes some changes in the white house following his illness. They were in place but were stopped.

Also, if Hope Hicks was a close contact, Trump should have cancelled his attendance at that NJ fundraiser on Thursday. A close contact is any individual who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes starting from 2 days before illness onset.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Bernie, masks are intended to protect nearby persons, not the wearer. Same for surgeons in an operating room. Second;y, Trump has always followed the advice of the CDC people we’ve heard from. The same CDC people who remained in place from the Obama Administration.

Here’s the problem. Most attendees at public gatherings are given quick-result tests. Those type tests are still unreliable. Many false results. There is also no science behind the minimum 6’ requirement, and how difficult is it for a President to remain a full 15 minutes in close proximity to any stranger?

Reportedly, millions of people might have already been infected by Covid and never knew it!

The survival rate, even for Trump’s age and size, if infected is greater than 94%. I expect him to fe back in action soon. He can begin by doing the video appearance only approach. Yes, his most recent video from Walter Reed showed him in pretty good shape.

Issues are what will decide this election. Trump becoming ill in this manner won’t be a decisive barrier to his re-election. If anything, this set-back will cause his supporters to work even harder.

    ReplyDelete
  43. One issue is Trump’s lax attitude towards masks and social distancing. He and his minions have ignored these simple and reasonable guidelines and now at least seven of them are sick, including the President.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The virus is weakening and therapeutics are getting stronger. Good signs. Would still not want to come down with it, but it appears to be less deadly now than in April, May, June. Terrible carnage then, especially in nursing homes.

    ReplyDelete
  45. 10:46 am...
Please come back to reality. Trump’s misinformation is the worse In the history of our country and the president had the worse week of his life. He is the single most driver of misinformation ever and you believe his supporters should work harder. Your are either very rich, net worth greater than 10 million, a racists or a fool. You decide.

    ReplyDelete
  46. You're right Bernie about the lax attitude I have it too, and when all seven get better we will see how unnecessary all the hype about masks and distancing is along with the force strike to tank the economy.

All of it election year bullshit.

If a 74 year old overweight man with a heavily stressful job, who's attitude towards the virus is that it's a hoax and behaves accordingly, gets the virus and recovers....I think it's over and we can all cut the bullshit.

What you fail; to understand is that, if you want the economy to get better, you need to keep your distance and mask up. The failure to do so may have just cost Trump the presidency.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The mortality rate for Trump's age group is about 5 %, so it's hardly a statistical miracle if he survives. Of course, others won't. And there's also the question of long-term damage. I notice how Trump's doc acknowledge that he has lung damage but didn't wan t to go into details.

That thinking is exactly what got Trump infected. Yes, if he recovers fairly quickly and without a wake-up call of a severe case, no doubt he and the maskless Trump Flag waving idiots will say it's proof of a hoax.

Ask yourself if all 74 year olds will get same treatment and round the clock monitoring from a team of doctors focused only on them and will they be able to have immediate access to treatments usually reserved for those near death.

The idiot went out today in a hermetically sealed car for a photo op, putting his Secret Service detail and staff at risk. His Secret Service guys and anyone in that virus mobile now have to quarantine for 14 days. The fool is a clown.

  57. I think by the time these vaccines get widely disseminated most people will have contracted it and most will not even know. The "irresponsible" college kids are probably doing us a favor by building up herd immunity. Imagine how many students don't even report symptoms or blame it on something else (like hung over from partying). The indoor and outdoor dining is also helping because, who are we kidding, masks are off and we are getting some good exposure to this. The vaccines may turn out to be the most expensive, but unneeded development. But we did learn about new treatment protocols for respiratory and inflammatory illnesses. I wonder how many people have been treated with ventilators for other illnesses when less invasive intervention would have saved a life.
