Updated: Rabid Pit Bull Loose in Allentown

From Allentown: Residents in the vicinity of the 1200 block of S Seventh Street in Allentown should be on the lookout for a stray tan Pit Bull that has been exposed to rabies.

A city animal control officer observed the dog in a fight with a skunk on Wednesday, August 5. The officer attempted to tranquilize the dog, but it escaped through a backyard fence.

Tests on the skunk today came back positive for rabies.

The dog had visible flesh wounds on its muzzle and old scars across his entire body.

A canvass of the neighborhood did not turn up anyone who was familiar with the dog.

Anyone who sees the dog is urged not to approach it and to call 911.

A picture of the dog is here:

As you can clearly see, I am not the rabid pit bull in question.
