You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.

ReplyDeleteI am against any additional bailouts if they include “Wish List” items not directly related to the previous 2 months of virus crisis. The latest Proposal from the U.S. House of Representatives reveals several unrelated items. Some in effort to cover previous careless spending by certain states.
ReplyDeleteThe purpose of any additional aid is not to cover under-funded state pensions that have grown over many years. It should not be used to achieve policy objectives that have already been rejected. States must not be allowed to take advantage of this health solution to tap-off funds to cover their own budget mismanagement. They need to solve their own problems by cutting expenses in their own state.
NO Pennsylvania taxpayer money to help failed states like California and New York!

ReplyDeleteCities are broke but Wolf is forging ahead with RGGI and higher minimum wage to kill more tax paying jobs. Wolf has chopped down the money tree but pays no mind.
@11:00AM the treasury department now employs people to stand by with fire extinguishers because the printing presses are running so hard. I look at my kids and makes me sad at the mess they are going to face.

ReplyDeleteProbably a bad time to bring up the impending person/business/bankruptcy/mortgage/banking disaster. Shutdowns cost serious money and a reckoning is coming. Tough for cities to pull this off after putting so many of their businesses under. Existing problems will get much worse, as empty storefronts and offices don't generate much in taxes.

ReplyDeleteGee lockdowns forcing small businesses to stay closed, Governor want a $15 minimum wage , Wants to keep schools closed so kids cant be taught to think for themselves. Forcing the PSP to defend is tyrannical orders ( not passed and/or written laws). Sounds like we are headed back in time to the 1930's in Nazi Germany. Gov't control of everything you do.

ReplyDeleteAlso, I know you love and promote the guy but what about Northampton County wanting to put together a "Tracing Team" TO track private individuals under the guise of this Covid-19. It is on their website. Is your buddy McClure confusing himself for Mussolini? Why would the county council endorse this policy??
I would vote against the nonbinding resolution. The counties need to stay out of this issue, even though I believe businesses should be open. This is a state decision. County involvement could hurt the very people they are trying to help. If a county or DA tells people to go ahead and open, that does nothing to prevent the state from pulling a business license. This would have no impact on the Comm'rs who encouraged businesses to defy Wolf, but it would certainly have an impact on the businesses. This is why DA Houck and Martin were so reluctant to state expressly they refuse to enforce the shutdown. Wolf could still pull a business license.
ReplyDeleteIf Wold were to start ordering people to stay inside and refuse to even permit them to go for a walk, then I think a county could get involved. I certainly would defy such an onerous order, which thankfully has not been issued.
Also, I would completely support any program that provides for testing and contact tracing. I have supported this from the beginning. I think we all need to be tested. When an antibodies test is widely available, we should be tested for that as well. I would support a mandatory vaccine law, which I know would pass constitutional muster. Contact tracing is far less intrusive than a lockdown, is expressly permitted by law, has been proven to be effective and involves no deprivation of individual liberty when it is voluntary. If the government invades an area in which there is a reasonable expectation of privacy by surveillance of cellphones, then I'd expect a warrant. But I think contact tracing is a benign attempt to merely contact people who have been in contact with an infected person. If it is less benign than I envision it, I will definitely be among those sounding an alarm. In Europe, where privacy is regarded with much more importance than it is here, I am unaware of anyone who feels that his or her privacy has been infringed. If wrong, please educate me.
You appear to base your reservations on antipathy towards McClure, not constitutional concerns.
At least you are consistent. You will do backflips attacking Wolf while doing backflips defending McClure over the same overreach of government. Well played!
