Though Curve Is Flattening, Pa Imposes More Onerous Restrictions on Workers and Customers

This is the face of Pa. health?
The number of new Covid-19 cases has been dropping across the state for the past several days. Resentment is growing among the public over Governor Tom Wolf's business shutdown. His unemployment office has been as slow as a glacier in processing 1.3 million unemployment compensation claims. To date, his bureaucracy has failed to even establish an application process for the self-employed and gig workers. But instead of devoting resources to helping people who have been negatively impacted, Governor Wolf has doubled down. His Health Secretary, Dr. Rachel Levine, has just issued an edict that will make it even more difficult for life-sustaining businesses to operate. Of course, this is all for our own good.

Now businesses must do the following:

1) Stagger start and quit times to keep employees apart;
2) Provide break spaces for employees in which they are 6' apart;
3) Stagger those break times, too;
4) Limit the number of employees allowed in a break or locker room;
5) Training must be done virtually as much as possible;
6) Employees must be masked unless they are trying to eat something;
7) Have employees on hand to enforce all the frickin' rules;
8) All "nonessential" visitors banned (no word on whether they can be shot on sight);
9) Make sure these rules are all communicated in several languages (I recommend Russian);
10) Business with the unwashed masses by appointment only, unless impractical, in which case you are required to do everything you can to make them feel unwelcome. It's their fault for not being wealthy enough to afford Doordash and other delivery services;
11) Set aside a specific time for the Boomers to shop so they can scarf up all the frickin' toilet paper.
12) Make the unwashed masses wear masks, too.
13) Everyone has to wash their hands once an hour.

This is simply nuts. This order becomes effective April 19. It's time to rein Dr. Levine and Governor Wolf in.

    It's more of a gelding.

    I made a big mistake voting for Wolf. I see it now, I was fooled.

  4. And exactly where do employers get masks from? Do we buy them from medical supply places and if they have them, are we now taking supplies away from health care providers?

    I’m not much for sewing and I have 4 days to fashion homemade ones for my staff?

  5. Trump is REALLY loading on criticism of the entire Congress for playing POLITICAL GAMES at this time of crisis to our nation. Perhaps your favorite news channel is no longer covering the White House Briefings Live. If so, you can probably watch it online later.

    This is very similar to what we are seeing in Harrisburg now. Disgusting POLITICAL GAMES while you and I have our freedoms put in jeopardy.

    While your cell phone is safely quarantined at home, allow your mask to do the talking.

    Homemade MAGA mask, or Wolk sucks, or fake news, your choice, take it, in may be your last.

    Hey, I voted for him the second time. The alternative was a disaster. But then again, so is Wolf.

  9. I get this is a serious disease with a widespread outbreak, but I am an anti-masker. Masks provide a false sense of security. I haven’t read anywhere about the overuse of hand sanitizers and/or antibiotics causing a breakdown of the immune system, but wonder if those may be a contributing factor.

  10. I try to stay non political as we want to sell to Democrats also. It is just unreasonable for employers to now be responsible for masks when it was never called for in our place of business before and now we will be eating up health care supplies unnecessary

    "...Mayor Claudia López announced further restrictive measures on the mobility of residents with a Gender-based system in when [men] can run essential errands on calendar days ending with odd numbers, women with even numbers, and transgender on days of their sexual orientation. The measure went into effect on Thursday, although those who break the new quarantine regulations face of COP$1 million (US$300) as of Monday. Pets can be walked for 20 minutes regardless of the gender of the owner."

    Apparently, you can still walk every day if:

    a) you have a pet...or
    2) you're "flexible"

    Wolf and gang are just about out of ideas, so look out!

  12. I predict Attorney ads in less than a month. The WSJ has article about the second wave in China a week ago. My brides sister called today ,says Peggy age 60 no issues medically has about a 1 in 10,000 chance of dying . Sister is a muckily muck high up of Blue Cross in North Carolina. However I have separate take , if she yells at me because I’m in this house for too much longer —-haha. Bernie did you delete my statement about government vehicles and rubber floors ,did you? Pennsylvania is for most part is broke. We took our gas taxes highest in country and didn’t use it for the roads ,we sent it to shore up the teachers pensions or something,what was it? I’m saying don’t believe what’s on the mass media. There is something else in this equation.

  13. Well, if Wolf wants to outdo Gov. Cuomo, who today ruled that everyone must wear a face mask, I can suggest for our Governor . . ,

    No one may flush any toilet in the home more than one time per 24 hour period.
    This action is essential to the preservation of scarce TOILET PAPER supplies.

  14. One positive of the COVID-19 outbreak. The real authoritarians have been unmasked. Don't expect them to give power back to the people once this passes. They love - absolutely love - putting the peoples' necks under their bootheels. Because they are so much smarter and better than we are.

    It's not like she is telling you what to wear...oh wait.

    I just don't feel myself with a mask on, it's just not who I am, I can only do it and feel myself if it's to evade facial recognition software.

  26. You have allowed filthily disguising comments about this woman's gender. You claim to not allow these things and you have deleted comments that go against your nihilistic concerns. You should be ashamed but you are not. Your noble words about not allowing personal insulting posts is complete horseshit. You allow any posts that mock those you hate, being Wolf or his top healthcare professional.

    You and the other "me first" posters care only about yourselves and not the community at large. The scientific and medical community disagree with the lot of you but you say the hell with them. You need your courthouse pass and gym.

    After all your poster buddies use your self anointed expertise so you can make your cash Cash is more than life.

    Greedy self centered fools just like your grand wizard leader Trumpkin.

    When you or a compromised person ends up in the hospital and possibly dies you should be criminals liable You won't be but you should be. You all are a disgrace to the "common Good" Jefferson proclaimed. Patriots, you are not. Just greedy profiteers.

    Faux Patriots who love yourselves and your money!

  27. Weeks ago when I first saw Levine on TV standing off to the side of a Wolf press conference I really had no idea why she was there or who it was. My only thought was Damn! Poor woman was beat with an ugly stick. Looks like a sick man in drag.
    With these latest rules I'm convinced her appointment had to be some kind of political move.

    I am so freakin' tired of hearing this self-righteous argument.

    I call BULLSHIT.

    There is NO scientific/medical community consensus. They have literally been wrong at every turn, and have completely reversed themselves over the course of this debacle multiple times. From the "masks don't help/wear a mask" fiascos, to all statistical models that they've relied on being wrong, it's time for them (and you) to admit they're making it up as they go along.

    So when is "good enough"?

    100 per cent effective vaccine? "Only" 1000 new cases a day statewide? "Only" 500 new cases a day? 50? 0?

    Do you we use this as the model for the next flu season?

  34. I agree with 7:48. Wolf did what he needed to to try to keep us alive. Lehigh Valley is plateauing but at a very high number. OK Boomers, how many more have to die? Put the mask on and bang your cane on the floor, we want to keep you alive. Dr. Levine displays more courage in a day than you could muster in a month.

  35. 5.27 I though the same thing. Now with the Gov's new orders will he be able to reopen his business? Or was it not closed?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Unfortunately, he is taking council of his inner despot. He wants to wave his hand and have all bow to his authority rather than do the menial job that attention to details warrant. There are millions of pieces that need to be attended to and we the people have placed that in the hands of bureaucrats.

  37. We haven’t seen a list of Waiver Results.
    We haven’t seen a reporting of number of ventilators in this state.
    We haven’t had a statement of a specific request being denied by the Federal Government.
    We haven’t even seen the already rejected Federal Re-Opening Suggestions.

    Sounds like hiding to me.

  38. "You have allowed filthily disguising comments about this woman's gender."

    Not really. I have allowed a few slurs at her transgender status to remain bc she is a public official and has been the face of Pennsylvania. I tend to allow anonymous attacks at public officials while being more protective of others. The people who make these insults usually destroy their own credibility by doing so, so in a way, I do her a favor by letting the insults stand.

    ReplyDelete
  39. 6:45, I don't know how many times I have to say this. Comments that make sweeping generalizations about political parties or ideologies will be deleted as soon as I see them.

    ReplyDelete
  40. @ 8:01 What makes her so courageous, the mere act that she is transgender? She is still receiving a paycheck. I have no doubt that she is still receiving/enjoying many non-essential services that most of us have to do without now. Her bills are being paid. The self employed's bills are not. The self employed bill's are still coming in each month. The self employed's families still have needs that need to be paid for.

    ReplyDelete
  41. And the self-employed are still unable to seek unemployment on Pa.'s website.

    ReplyDelete
  42. The self employed are STILL unable to seek unemployment comp. They are now saying two weeks and the forms will be available.

  43. It is a travesty. The state government takes away the ability of folks to make a living and is not prepared to issue unemployment

  46. 3:25, we can't have an adult conversation with you while you insist that that guy is a woman. Let the grown ups speak and you have your play time with others who are playing along with the same fantasy. By Dr. Dick's own statistics, if he were to succumb, he would be listed as a male death. We don't help the mentally ill by enabling their insanity.

  47. seems there was a spike in new cases in Lehigh.
    apr 11 58 cases
    apr 12 64 cases
    apr 13 63 cases
    apr 14 56 cases
    apr 15 119 cases
    apr 16 77 cases.

    Seems the mitigation measures need to be increased.
    requiring masks seems like a reasonable attempt to drop the number of new cases.

  50. This is the one I like... 78 words that say nothing.

    (6) require all customers to wear masks while on premises, and deny entry to individuals not wearing masks, unless the business is providing medication, medical supplies, or food, in which case the business must provide alternative methods of pick-up or delivery of such goods; however, individuals who cannot wear a mask due to a medical condition (including children under the age of 2 years per CDC guidance) may enter the premises and are not required to provide documentation of such medical condition;

    ...must wear a mask, deny entry if they don't. But if they say they have a medical condition, let them in.

    Why not just say, "it's up to the customer to wear a mask."
