Big Brother Government: Have You Received Any Pandemic Relief?
While Governor Tom Wolf refuses to allow self-employed people like myself to file claims, his Department of Health has set up an online complaint form so you can rat out the few businesses still permitted to operate.

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
The obvious incompetence of this Governor and our state’s business administration is precisely why more and more citizens will begin to ignore the Governor’s Royal Edicts.
ReplyDeleteWay too many inconsistencies, a lack of trust, and a long-standing state reputation of corruption, do not encourage compliance. I expect Wolf’s re-opening scheme to collapse.
Self employed small business owner. Not a thing. No stimulus yet. No word on EIDL grant. (applied 2nd day it was avail). PUA unemployment applied first day it was avail. Like everyone, nothing yet. Was advised for our situation by accountant that the PPP program is not worth the hassle. So not a penny. My business since it relies on large public gatherings will be among the last to open.
ReplyDeleteToo negative. You need to read the mcall. Big headline today: "Wolf being flexible."
ReplyDeleteJust don't read the article, which details confusion, complaints and communication problems.
Yea I got fucked by the trump administration and got nothing. I'm a 44-year old 10th grade graduate with thousands of dollars worth of trump trinkets and stuff anyone want to help me out before I sell it on eBay?
ReplyDeleteThe question you need to ask is, has Government helped you in this crisis?
ReplyDeleteHas the state processed unemployment claims timely for those who need it? no
Has there been transparency on why some businesses are open and some are not? no
Has the state released competent data in a transparent way? no (yesterday's "spike" due to a weekend backlog placed in one day)
They did manage to get the churches to ring their bells at the same time so we have that going for us.
Self employed as well, though fortunately I did receive my stimulus deposit on 4/15.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely frustrated at both the amount of time it took for PA to finally make the PUA portal available, as well as the complete lack of processing of PUA claims. I and many other gig workers in the LV have seen no progress in our PUA claims.
The problems in processing claims reminds me of Trump’s initial, but rejected, plan to pay relief funds directly to workers. Because, he said, many states are using older, slower, and less capable computer systems. Probably the case here.
ReplyDeleteWolf will continue to push his pet projects during this economic implosion. RGGI, $12/hr min wage, severance tax etc. So when we emerge from this, all the companies flush with cash, that were not put out of business by Wolfie, will pay you a livable wage. Just don't be selfish and starve in the meantime.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't received the stimulus check yet, but my furloughed spouse is now making more money collecting unemployment than she was working a part time job. What a country!
ReplyDeleteGive me healthcare & medicine free at the point of service,
ReplyDeletesick time,
daycare,
an education,
a 32hour fulltime week,
a universal basic income from the data you now steal,
and you can keep your sticking stimulus distraction money and your fairytale election virus bullshit.
Very cynical bunch, time to get to wor kand forget relying on the government.
ReplyDeleteSince March shutdown, for every person in PA who has contracted COVID-19, 40 Pennsylvanians have been added to the Unemployment rolls. The data shows if you contract the virus and are not in a nursing home, you have a 98.5% chance of survival. When PA reopens, how many of those 1.6 million in PA forced into unemployment will not have a job to return to? How many will return to a job that is lost in a few months because of a slow recovery? I'm self employed, non-essential, and this seems less about the greater good of the state and more a Governors personal crusade to be a saviour.
ReplyDeleteNothing Here either
ReplyDeleteI did get my stimulus check.. I also today received a mailing from the IRS which included a beautiful letter from the white house written by president trump himself. I used it to pick up my dog's shit during our afternoon walk.
ReplyDelete1:29 - I can agree with your observation. I’m old and haven’t needed employment for many years. But, our younger generation requires relief and a chance to rebuild their financial futures. I enjoyed a long career and they do, too.
ReplyDeleteGovernor Wolf doesn’t really know the best way out of this. It’s why he follows in the footsteps of NY’s Cuomo, and other big state Governors. Wolf feels a need to reject the basic Federal Guidelines laid out months ago. He needs to demonstrate his own power, but not act alone. I do not trust his reporting numbers, nor his interest in re-opening as quickly as possible.
No cash money, and unemployment has been a four-week tangle. I get helpful Suicide Hotline tweets from Dr. Levine every day.
ReplyDeletewolf's press conference today talked about establishing bread lines by buying farmer's food and having restaurants cook it.
ReplyDeleteWe do not want bread lines, we want to go back to work and support our families.
Bernie - At current rates, the Northeast zone will be locked down through September, at least. Serious questions: 1) do we fly our flags at half mast until then, and 2) will we have additional opportunities for bell ringings? Asking for all the inured and eagerly distracted.

ReplyDelete"and this seems less about the greater good of the state and more a Governors personal crusade to be a saviour."
You were doing so well and then your focus narrowed.
Blaming a messianic governor or ego driven politician is a canard, that's why those people are put there, you must know, we all know, it's bigger than the Governor, it's bigger than the President.
Gov-did-19 is big brother.
2:18 Regarding your distrust of reporting numbers..even if one was to believe the numbers, the way the data is listed is designed to mislead. The states site: https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Cases.aspx
ReplyDeletehas a section labeled, "Positive Cases by Age Range to Date". There are 7 age ranges. If it wasn't designed to mislead, the 7 age ranges would be 0-17, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+, and not the bs ranges they list. If you don't click the link, the largest age range(50% larger than the next largest) is 25-49!!! If they cared about scientific accuracy they would also align those age ranges to the age ranges of the "Hospitalization Rates by Age Range to Date" which they don't. But the biggest argument for the state intentionally withholding data is that although the site lists death by sex, race, county and nursing homes, the statistic you can't find anywhere is deaths by age.
I still file my taxes on paper, and filed my IRS return in which I owed them $$$ and paid with a check, which they promptly cashed. They do not have my D-Deposit info, and the website will not allow it to be added for people who already filed a paper return. Thus, we are going to have to receive a check with Dumbo's name in the memo, and apparently a letter signed by Dumbo accompanying the check.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I do not expect them to issue a check before the return is processed. And the GOP started slashing IRS funding back in 2010, and through Trump. So my return is sitting in a huge pile somewhere, and likely will not be processed for several months, and I don't believe they will issue a check before this is complete. But they cashed my check when I sent it in 2-1/2 months early.
I guess you're the Dumbo. LOLOL
DeleteThe political class always lies and distorts facts-why do think they would change now--not a chance-politicians and the left wing media are bad for this country
ReplyDeleteI am happy to report that the head of our federal government has provided many helpful pharmaceutical recommendations, such as what medicine may damage my heart or the value of injecting disinfectants.
ReplyDeleteCount me as one satisfied citizen!
Dr. anon @ 5:59 PM
ReplyDelete"We analyzed lung platelet accumulation, protein content in "bronchoalveolar lavage fluid" as an indication of lung injury, and macrophage inflammatory protein-2 (MIP-2) release in mice received UVC-irradiated or untreated control platelets" ???
https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0079869
Like Trump I'm no doctor, but in layman terms maybe you could better explain these studies and their applications.
"Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid" and "UVC irradiated Protein-2 injected into mice"
Ultraviolet-fluorescence bronchoscopy? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/686598
I got a sign4d letter from Leader Trump. That's something.
