MLK and Thich Nhat Hanh

MLK with Thich Nhat Hanh

"The moment I met Martin Luther King, Jr., I knew I was in the presence of a holy person." - Thich Nhat Hanh, Living Buddha, Living Christ (1995). (Hanh is a Buddhist monk who has been allowed to return to the Vietnamese temple where he was first ordained at age 16. His letter to MLK persuaded the civil rights activist to oppose the war in Vietnam.)

  4. I read Hahn's book, *Living Buddha, Living Christ*, years ago. As a Christian, I found his exploration of Christian theology from an Eastern perspective to be thoughtful and interesting.

  5. Anon 9:42, is that Fox News code? That is their go to line when ever anyone wants to address the plight of African Americans. A handy trump line not meant as a noble sentiment.

  6. Kevin, I consider him a living saint. His comments on the relationship between life and death are quite interesting.

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
