A Sign of the Times

I noticed this sign while parking yesterday in Nazareth. It is located right by the police department and is under constant video surveillance. It is apparently a safe spot for child custody exchanges as well as Internet sales.

From what I see at the courthouse, where PFAs are quite common, I certainly think something like this can save lives.  I am nevertheless amazed that people who have children can be so cruel to one another. It’s sad something like this is needed.

I am a child of the 50s. Although domestic violence existed then, I believe married couples had a little more respect for each other than couples do today. I suspect one reason for this is that economic pressures mean that people in relationships see less of each other.

Whatever the reason, it’s a sad commentary on what we’ve become.

  1. Why are you surprised? You know the reasons. Years of democrats policy has destroyed families. It has eroded basic concepts of decency and society. This is what we are trying to fix by making America Great Again. It is an uphill battle but worth the fight.

  2. Are you suggesting there was less domestic violence in the 50s and 60s? There was most certainly more. Police, and the rest of society, treated it as a "family matter" and were unlikely to get involved. Women were less likely to leave abusive partners because of greater economic inequality. So they...submitted. Perhaps that's what you meant by "more respect"?

These spots have been around for years. I only know because of a puppy/craigslist thing a while ago. They make you feel almost secure when meeting strangers from the internet with large sums of cash on you.

  3. TO 230 AM.....
You are 100% correct in your analysis of the present day culture. We need more leaders like Richard Nixon and his "Watergate Plumbers" and Donald Trump with his "grab em by the pussy" attitude. He certainly set a new standard by cheating on his wife while she was pregnant. Yeah, you're right. you sick bastard.

  4. The use of these spaces for Internet sales is a no-brainer, and a rare, wise use of tax dollars.

The parent or parents who need a supervised custody exchange spot should have been neutered before they took the opportunity to further erode society with their lack of basic decency - especially around the kids they've chosen to victimize. God help us.

  5. I can't imagine handing my kids over to someone I feared so much that I need to do the exchange by this sign.

But...I don't think the women and kids of the 50's had things any easier. I just think they hid things better.

  7. How many spaces on the street in front of the Police Department are taken for "OFFICIAL USE ONLY". Taking spaces away from businesses.

  9. >apply the advantages of technology to make people safer
    >things become safer
    >"sad signs of the time that we are using technology to make us safer."

I don't see the logic in this article.

  10. Bernie, before you kicked the pig accidently because it pushed you and than you had bacon and eggs, did you and it meet under the sign? Because I can tell in your writtings the abuse you suffered at the hands of it.
There are cases were the male is abused and the courts help the abuser turn it on the abused. Than the children are caught up in the broken system that helpped break the children to keep the dependant class stuck!

  11. I bought an iPhone from someone with cash a couple of years ago. We did it near Allentown’s main station on Hamilton Street. This is a trend. I felt safer. And hey, guess who sold me the phone? A cop.

This has some relation to what notaries do. They independently act as verifiers of identity and perform minor juridical acts like taking oaths and witnessing affidavits.

I admire the Nazareth PD (for a change) for grabbing a good idea and implementing it locally. Unlike the services of a notary, this police service is free.

  12. It is a shame the democrats have pushed this agenda. At one time there was safety for all. Now even new born children can be aborted at birth due to democrat laws. People ask why do you support President Trump, this is why. He was sent to us at just the right time to help us save America from the extremists that would destroy it.

  13. I have to laugh at these right-wing Catholics still screaming about abortion when at the same time their church is operating the worlds largest pedophile operation. Who caused the Catholic sex abuse scandal? Are you going to blame the Democrats for that also? Hey Catholics, next time you attend church don't bend over to tie your shoes.

  14. I think it's wonderful.

A *sign* of how much more aware we are of human behavior.

It's always been true that the guy making the sign doesn't mind what the signs say.

It's up to us as citizen, in our own time, to decide what is written, in the 50's it was "whites only", now, it's a sign announcing a "15 minute safe exchange zone for families and commerce".

I am sympathetic to those who reminisce over days gone by, I do it myself, but I have no illusion about how thing were, they were rougher and tougher, no doubt.

  15. Catholics were unaware of all the gays infiltrating the Church. Things are now being dealt with. Stop your prejudice.

  16. That’s great. A safe space, nothing bad will happen there. Just like gun free zones, people never get shot in those. Morons! Was this your idea O’Hare? Oh , never mind, no woman was ever stupid enough to let you father a child. Thank God!

  20. I don't think it's sad. Safety is a good thing and that's not a new thing. Just because the '50s seemed safer doesn't mean they were. Also they're not new in this area. Lower Saucon Township Police Department has had one for a few years and it apparently works quite well.
