Trump Spendthrift Budget

After a weekend of bizarre tweets, authoritarian Donald Trump has sent Congress a 2020 budget that hardly has the fingerprints of a conservative. He wants to add $4 trillion to the deficit. He has proposed draconian cuts (31%) in domestic spending on programs that assist the poor. At the same time, he wants to increase defense spending by five per cent. The only reason people have refrained from going nutz over this spending plan is because it will never be adopted.  It is more of a re-election gimmick than an attempt at good government.

  1. And the Republicans love this, especially the ones living on government disability on Tobacco Road Paul Ryan just got the shivers with excitement . It could coax him out of retirement.

  2. We should cut , a real cut not a smaller increase, 5% a year across the board until the budget it balanced. Ha, there is not one Washington politician who will do it, neither democrat or republican, The government is the golden cow that just keeps on giving through deficit spending,

  3. not my fault people are poor. If they didn't make it than that is on them. Real people should not have to pay for these slackers

  4. @8:15 - Very easy to say it's not your fault and have an attitude that its on them to make good on their lives, which ultimately is true for all of us.

That said, what we see a lot in today's social opinions is that attitude coming from folks who were raised by working parents, who provided a home, food, clothing and education for them and act like they had it hard growing up because they had to do chores AND homework every night.

I'd venture a guess that at least 50% of people who say "It's not my fault people are poor. If they didn't make it than that is on them..." grew up in the suburbs, went to a good high school and even graduated college - none of them are willing to acknowledge the MASSIVE head start they had. Some of us were born on 3rd base, some on 2nd, many on 1st base, but that is still much further along from the people who you consider to be poor.

  6. Gird your loins @1:48, Dems could literally nominate a corpse and get it elected over Trump. He's underwater in AZ, IA, MI, OH, PA, and WI which will kill him in the Electoral College, an 81 vote swing. Plus NC, GA & FL are also at risk. Not saying it'll definitely happen, but it has the potential to be a bloodbath.

The dimwit who regularly spams Trump 2020 here must be a Democrat troll. Best case for Republicans is a primary challenger to Trump that can overcome his core base, or failing that some 3rd party moderate type that could pull 20-25% nationally. Otherwise moderates/independents are going to break massively for any Dem candidate short of Chairman Mao and Fidel Castro's love spawn.

  11. It doesn't matter who wins the next election. Trump has the support of the military, police, bikers, Nazis, KKK, and the white supremacy militia groups. If he wins he will have that pesky Constitution burned. If he loses, he will declare Martial Law and have those damned socialists shot for rigging the election, all the fake news shut down, and every channel will broadcast the State sponsored, Fox News of Truth, only to be interrupted by repeat episodes of The Apprentice when Hannity needs to give his voice a rest.

  12. Hey 5:31

Not only have we had balanced budgets - we even had budget surplusses.

    Bill Clinton.

  13. @5:43 - "Poll takers" were pretty spot on in 2016 with what they called and saw. Media cherry picked and repeated a narrative in late summer when Clinton had a much bigger lead, even into October, but polls did see the turn in the weeks leading up to election day and where they did miss, it fell within standard margins of error.

I'm sorry if current polling results don't match up with your feelings, and if it helps you to sleep at night to assume they'll get it wrong again, knock yourself out.

Trump won many of those battleground states AZ,FL,GA,IA,MI,NC,OH,PA,&WI on slim margins, primarily on the backs of college educated suburban swing voters (used to be known as Reagan Democrats and/or soccer moms) who were fatigued with 8 years of Obama, saw nothing appealing in Clinton and viewed Trump as an outsider and were willing to try something new. While he may have converted a few, mainly out of sympathy and fatigue over chronic Democratic attacks and whining, a vast majority of that part of the voting public are NOT HARD CORE conservatives who are dismayed by Trump's "Presidential style" and other methods of leadership.

Bottom line, he has all but ignored the cohort that ultimately helped get him elected by his near constant pandering to his base and has done absolutely nothing to pull in any other significant groups that either voted for Clinton in 2016 or simply stayed home that year (which when you look at that group, was significantly Hispanic and African American.)
