In 2020, Will Trump Go Gentle into that Good Night?

Authoritarian Donald Trump, who has returned to the United States after an underwhelming trip to Europe, has given us all a preview of what could happen in the 2020 Presidential election. It started on Thursday. It continued on Monday. He is complaining about close races in Florida, Georgia and Arizona with tweets like these:
Law Enforcement is looking into another big corruption scandal having to do with Election Fraud in #Broward and Palm Beach.

As soon as Democrats sent their best Election stealing lawyer, Marc Elias, to Broward County they miraculously started finding Democrat votes. Don’t worry, Florida - I am sending much better lawyers to expose the FRAUD!

Rick Scott was up by 50,000+ votes on Election Day, now they “found” many votes and he is only up 15,000 votes. “The Broward Effect.” How come they never find Republican votes?

Mayor Gillum conceded on Election Day and now Broward County has put him “back into play.” Bill Nelson conceded Election - now he’s back in play!? This is an embarrassment to our Country and to Democracy!

In the 2016 Election I was winning by so much in Florida that Broward County, which was very late with vote tabulation and probably getting ready to do a “number,” couldn’t do it because not enough people live in Broward for them to falsify a victory!

Just out — in Arizona, SIGNATURES DON’T MATCH. Electoral corruption - Call for a new Election? We must protect our Democracy!

Trying to STEAL two big elections in Florida! We are watching closely!

The Florida Election should be called in favor of Rick Scott and Ron DeSantis in that large numbers of new ballots showed up out of nowhere, and many ballots are missing or forged. An honest vote count is no longer possible-ballots massively infected. Must go with Election Night!
I understand frustration with vote-counting, especially in Florida. Re-counts might take us past Thanksgiving. There is a strong public interest in certainty and speedy results. These concepts appear to be alien to Florida election officials. Their delay undermines public confidence in election results.

Trump is pouring gasoline on this fire. With no evidence, he has claimed "corruption" and adds ballots are "massively infected."

He's been doing this for some time. After losing the popular vote to Hillary Clinton in the 2016 Presidential, he claimed that 3-5 million of her votes were fraudulent. He even formed a since disbanded commission to get to the bottom of things.

My concern is that, after losing the 2020 Presidential, he will claim election fraud and dismiss the results as illegitimate. He will also reject media accounts, which have become biased against him, as "fake news." A large minority of Americans will support him in the overthrow of democracy.

This is why I refer to Trump as authoritarian, and as often as I can. This is why Congress, more than ever, needs to be a check on Presidential power.

  1. What happened in the stock market today was a reflection of what just happened in the mid terms. Can you imagine what the stock market will do if the dems win the presidential election in 2020. Your 401 won't even be a 101.

  2. The Florida recount will be done this Thursday

  3. Well at least we can be thankful that Russian meddling was prevented in these midterm elections.

  4. The economy, the economy. Seriously, the only reason the stocks art up is because thee is zero government oversight with Trump. Much like leading up to 2008 everything was on a high until it wasn't. The boys on Wall Street are making money hand over fist any way they can. You are getting some crumbs for now. Naturally once their greedy ways crash in, thy will be fine with foreign accounts while your "401" will go back to what it was when the clown took office. We have seen this movie before.

The deficit is sky high and growing not decreasing. Voodoo economics is the great short term elixir that a the wealthy love. Most will be positioned well when the inevitable check comes to the table. Will you be prepared? Short term profit is sadly what most of the country wants right now.

Tell me another Fairy Tale daddy.

  5. What we need the check on is Democrat power - bloodthirsty, ruthless, win-at-all-cost, power-mad Democrats desiring to control every aspect of American life.

  7. 1:18, the Democrats control one half of one of three branches of the federal government. Get a grip.

  8. Trumps poor leadership and his bizarre behavior has a silver lining. Sane Republicans are waking up and realizing we can do better in electing a president who believes in the Constitution.

  10. 1230, does not understand the market, rising dollar, effect tariffs, and rising inflation. Let's not forget how trump lame rainout excuse and disrespected our veterans. Maybe his bone spurs are as aggravated by the weather but it did not stop other world leaders. Let's not forget trump was admonished in public when. It was proclaimed. Nationalism is not patriotic. The stooge went back to his hotel to stew and tweet about the FL recount. My conclusion is that trump thought the day was about him and it did not go so well. He looked small.

He is a powerful agent of doom.

  12. Hillary Clinton will be our next president,
America will truly be great again and show the world why we are a beacon of freedom,
    light, and economic prosperity.
Let’s restore democracy and remind the whole world of America’s true greatness.
    Love conquers hate.
    Hillary conquers Putin’s puppet,
    God bless America.

  13. Elections are no longer to be trusted, the democrats are still attempting to overthrow the 2016 election. It is always democratic controlled areas were there are problems, Illegals are voting in many parts of the country, that is why they fight voter ID and any attempt to audit voter registrations. The election process is soon to be a thing of the past.

  14. Americans dont need to fear an authoritarian Trump, they, as history has shown, need to fear a socialist government, that will need to use force to obtain conformity from those that want the freedom that our country promised. While resistance to Trump is a virtue no matter how extreme. Resistance to the socialist state will need to be crushed.

  15. And the Mueller investigation was formed because the Democrats blamed losing in 2016 to Trump "colluding" with the Russians..

    Yeah right..

    ReplyDelete
  16. Lots of voters are feeling upset, cheated, or – worst of all – doomed. We have watched an uncanny and statistically unlikely wave of contests moving from GOP to Dem wins as more votes are discovered.

Enough is enough. Election after election, boxes of Democrat ballots show up in counties run by Democratic election supervisors to benefit Democratic candidates who, once they steal their opponent’s election night victory, will join the chorus warning of Russian interference in our elections. Last time I checked, there were no Russian election officials in Palm Beach or Broward counties in Florida.

  17. Bernie -

There is massive evidence of voter fraud/abuse in Florida . . . and you know it! This includes

Accepting ballots past the state law time limitations.
    Allowing non-citizens to cast votes.
    Accepting votes by email.
Failure to report ballot totals at intervals on election night as prescribed by law.

Mixing illegal ballots in with the authorized ballots with NO way to distinguish at any future recount time.

A notarized, signed statement by an employee who twice-witnessed election officials filling in stacks of blank ballot sheets at the tabulating center in Broward County.

  19. 7:18: Correct. Florida does have voter fraud...Gore v. Bush 2000

  20. Election day voting with a voter ID eliminates mismatched signatures and misplaced, lost in the mail, or even manufactured ballots that show up only when needed to pull a Democrat to victory.

  21. He may go somewhere, but there is 0 chance it's anywhere gently. He goes he will burn it down as he's flails away. He throws gasoline on fires now? Wait til if he's ever a lame duck.

  22. Bernie, who will lead this check and balance? The likes of Susan Wild? Sadly, I just predict more tit for tat. Keep the folks back home all riled up. After the cameras are turned off by the sycophants of the press, the monies and deals will be made and party lines magically disappear.

  23. 7:18, There is no evidence of voter fraud in Florida, despite the lied you hear from Trump and the alt.right. A Florida judge has not only said no such evidence exists, but wants people to dial down the rhetoric. There is evidence of human error and incompetence. There is a big difference between incompetence and fraud. Though Vox tends to be left leaning, hold your nose and read this story.

  24. Always seems that missing ballots are suddenly found that are all Democratic votes.. Usually just enough to win also....

    ReplyDelete
  25. 8.58 So a democratic judge says there is no evidence, same with the pa. redistricting, even the constitution is subject to democratic judges. Democratic Florida judge also ruled that the machines and ballots should not be sealed and impounded, I guess that is to insure there will never be any evidence. Third world corruption will lead to third world society. When the blatant disregard for law and order is encouraged, why should nay of us obey any law?

    ReplyDelete
  26. 7:18. "There is evidence of human error and incompetence." Is THAT what you call it. What, do we have second graders staffing those positions. Open your eyes and get real.

  29. So, you declared Trump as lost 2020, the democrats have not even selected their nominee, Trump may look very good compared to new or old democratic nominee.

  31. "Elections Supervisor Mark Andersen in heavily Republican Bay County told the Miami Herald earlier on Monday that he allowed about 150 people to cast ballots by email, which is illegal under state law."

Maybe Trump wants to investigate the real voter fraud in FLA. And for R's to admit it shows how cavalier they are with the law.

If I was a D candidate in FLA, i'd do a right to know request for the emails of election officials in every county won by an R to see how many other illegal votes were counted.

  32. Bernie. Do you know what the last date for Democratic voting is ? I know the Republicans it was last Tuesday.

    ReplyDelete
  33. There still voting in Florida, mostly in the back room of the election supervisors office, but of course there is nor will there be any proof.

    ReplyDelete
  34. There is no honest dealings with democrats, they are just like their forerunner comrade Stalin.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Given what we are seeing in Florida, one has to wonder how valid Wild's "Victory" over Northstein was?

    ReplyDelete
  36. "Bernie. Do you know what the last date for Democratic voting is ? I know the Republicans it was last Tuesday."

Cute, but the last day to vote by mail is actually this Friday (11/16). But please, continue to ignore facts just like your little president.

    ReplyDelete
  37. 12:40 Cool so I can still vote in Florida then if I send in a ballot by Federal Express ?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Like Trump, his sheeple will only accept a vote result when they win. If it appears they might lose before all votes are counted, they scream of a rigged election without any proof.

    ReplyDelete
  39. "He's been doing this for some time. After losing the popular vote to Hillary Clinton in the 2016 Presidential, he claimed that 3-5 million of her votes were fraudulent. He even formed a since disbanded commission to get to the bottom of things."

No wonder you're disbarred O'Hare. You don't even know that the people vote for electors to vote in the Electoral College that elect the President.

    ReplyDelete
  40. You don't even know that the people vote for electors to vote in the Electoral College

    Reading comprehension problem?
What part of "popular vote" don't you understand?

    ReplyDelete
  41. 1:25 The part that the winner of the popular vote is the winner of Presidential elections.. that Democrats believe does..

    ReplyDelete
  42. Republicans new response to losing is to scream voter fraud because they think they are annotated by god to rule. Broward. Palm Beach counties always have slow returns because they have a crappy counting system. As to Arizona Maricopa county, they use county machines that have less computing power than my first desk top an Apple 2c

  43. In 1972 Dave Wottle lost the 400M race in the Olympics. In fact if memory serves he finished last. You probably don't know that, because the race he was running was the 800M. He won that race.

Same thing with the popular vote discussion. Two things: 1) It doesn't matter who won the popular vote, that wasn't the race; and 2) I sure don't want NYC and LA deciding my future, and that's what would happen if we switched to popular vote.

Ours is not a democracy, but a republic, to protect us from tyranny of the majority and give everyone a voice. You may detest the voice, and that is your right, just as it is their right to disagree with you.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Just what is so hard about requiring a voter to physically show up on election day with an ID that proves they are alive, an American citizen, and who they say they are?

    ReplyDelete
  45. 3.44
So troops overseas do not get to vote?
    People with scheduled surgery?
Lot's of reasons to have mail in votes

    ReplyDelete
  46. If you want to destabilize a democratic government you must cast doubt on the electoral system. When you convince enough people that the voting process cannot be trusted you can seize control of the government. Instead of reading so much about Saul Alinsky( I have never read whatever the hell he wrote but right wingers constantly quote him) you should read Mein Kampf. It will give eye a much better perspective of the Trump Presidency.

I fear he is succeeding in casting doubt on the most fundamental process to our stability as a democracy.

  47. Obama would have sent every crook in his putrid DOJ. Calm the f#ck down.

    ReplyDelete
  48. 6:12 - the irregularities in Florida are simply stunning in their ability to corrupt any election result. Maybe you will soon find out as the Florida Attorney General has now opened a criminal investigation.

ALL Americans need to be concerned about vote counting practices in Florida and possibly other states.

  49. Detention without trial: Section 1021 of the NDAA

Trump had nothing to do with section 1021 of the NDAA, but thanks to Bush and Obama he has the authority to declare anyone an enemy combatant.

Detentions without trails is the law now, and at the whim of the President, any President.

Authoritarian not only by temperament, it's the law.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Wait, Bern. So Authoritarian Trump will act as the libs have been acting since losing the election in ‘16?

    ReplyDelete
  51. No, Louie. Authoritarian Trump will act worse than he has always acted. He will continue trying to subvert the Constitution and believing he can change it with a stroke of his pen. He will continue to be the ignorant President he has always been.

    ReplyDelete
  52. He has a phone and a pen, right? Can't wait, right? Sucks when all that executive authority gets passed to the next guy. Same thing with Harry Reid's nuclear option.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I just don't understand how votes can be "lost" then "found" ?

    ReplyDelete
  54. You don't understand voting and how not all votes are counted on election day.

    ReplyDelete
  55. 1:36 - the amount of votes "counted late" in Broward County is excessive, well beyond the norm, according to some officials in Florida.

    ReplyDelete
  56. 2:17. The number of "counted late" votes is far and away beyond reasonable belief and indicates a massive amount of voter fraud.

    ReplyDelete
  57. 4.08
Yep the republicans are trying to steal the election.
they are counting on the military votes that usually come in by mail

    ReplyDelete
  58. 6:46

Your statement makes NO sense. Why would the Republicans want more votes to come in?
They already won WITHOUT a recount.

    ReplyDelete
  59. "This is why Congress, more than ever, needs to be a check on Presidential power."

Fortunately, the voters of District 7 have elected Democrat Susan Wild to help do that in the newly Democratic House. Republicans, without exception, have enabled Trump's authoritarianism, and it is almost certain that the Republican candidate would have also done so had he been elected.

Is it just me, or has Trump lost a little bit of his swagger since the election?
