Nothstein Campaign HQs Vandalized

Tonight, the Lehigh Valley's GOP Congressional candidate, Marty Nothstein, will open his campaign headquarters at 4260 Nazareth Pike in Bethlehem Township. He will do so even though the building was vandalized over the weekend, when someone through a piece of concrete through a first floor window.

“Our political opponents, including far-left groups from outside the district, have declared the Lehigh Valley a battleground, so it’s little wonder that extreme rhetoric has now translated into physical violence," said Nothstein. “We will not allow them to prevent our grand opening Monday. We need to stand up to political bullies.”

No charges have been filed against anyone.

No charges have been filed against anyone. In addition to Nothstein's campaign offices, the property also includes a tattoo parlor. It is only in recent days that a large Nothstein sign has appeared in front of the building, facing Nazareth Pike.

Entrepreneur Abe Atiyeh, who owns the building, said that there is security footage.

There is little doubt in my mind that this vandalism was aimed at Nothstein. During the primary, Democrat John Morganelli was shouted down and prevented from even answering a question at a debate in Allentown, and was booed at a debate in Bethlehem.

Lehigh Valley For All (Who Agree With Them) is planning a so-called "Harmony" Fest on August 9 in Coplay, but have declared, "Absolutely no Trump supporters allowed!"

Nothstein, who chairs the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners, won a gold medal in cycling during the summer Olympics in 2000. Susan Wild, an Allentown attorney and that City's former Solicitor, is the Democratic nominee. Tim Silfies, WFMZ-TV69's former business reporter, has filed as a Libertarian.

  1. through vs threw guess auto correct got you.
Then again it could be several things.
1 some kid threw a rock and there is no political aspect.
2 some left wing person tossed a chunk of concrete.politically it makes no sense as it only feeds the paranoia of the right wing.
3 Nothstein wants to get his name in the news and wraps himself in the martyr mode.
Somehow he already knows agents of the far left are attacking him? based on what?
Nothstein gets to fire up his base and play the poor oppressed fighter for the people being attacked by the agents of Satan or Soros or gasp Clinton.
Hopefully video footage is available to settle the matter.
If the vandalism is politically motivated whoever is responsible should be held to account.
I wonder what Nothstein's response would be if a right wing supporter was at fault, caught trying to stir the pot?

  2. The tinfoil hat poster above, notwithstanding, Occam's razor points toward the obvious explanation offered by Bernie. As Morgy found out, Wild's bunch is completely unhinged.

  3. The left has been encouraging violence and division, it all started with the obama administration and is continuing. I would expect that it will accelerate as the election draws near. It is happening on college campuses also. It is a simple immature behavior, cry that everything is unfair and look for pity and when that doesn't work get violent. There probably is a psychological definition of this immature behavior.

  5. There was never any tattoo parlor in this building -- one is located at the Trolley Station just north of this site. This building was used by a dentist years ago.

  6. Who benefits by a cement block thrown through Nortstein's window?

    That's where the blame lies.

    ReplyDelete
  7. The United States fought a 50-year Cold War against these ideas the cement block throwers espouse. With all the free stuff, there comes a suffocating lack of freedom

Nothing is free, you pay for it in ways you really can't afford to lose.

I saw no signs, but there is a business there, according to the owner of the biz and tje building's owner.

  9. "Somehow he already knows agents of the far left are attacking him? based on what?"

Based on their own intolerance, which I have personally seen. Extremists can be very ugly, and they exist on both sides. Susan Wild saw it, too, and did nothing to stop it.

  13. Bernie, sadly many of my women friends will vote for Wild because she "is a woman". As a woman, what does it say about me when I base my vote on this? Wild is getting a free pass on much of her history and if she were a man her actions would have been more closely scrutinized. I am in my early seventies and understand attempts of women to address some of the wrongs. But I do not want to end up reflecting the same biases I have railed against. And I will not turn to Emily's List to decide about local vying politicians when I have access to so much more about them. I am not of the democrat persuasion, but Morganelli has offered so much to this community over the years and we missed a good pick. I am not one to be passive about topics but what I see on both sides is real ugly. Some accuse Trump of causing this but I maintain much of what people complain about it would not grow unless it falls on fertile ground. Not excusing Trump's actions but just remembering my Mom's reflections on "fertile ground".

  14. I can't wait for Trump to be out of office and this nonsense that he fuels from both the left and right to stop. His tweets of stupidity do little to make people on both sides more tolerant of differing opinions.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I am aware how SGT LaPointe responded to questions from the Morning Call, which was almost certainly trying to bait him. . And knowing him as I do, I know that he has not ruled out that possibility, which appears more likely than a random act. Let's face it. Nothstein just put up signs. And this is going to be an extremely ugly race.

  16. "Did Abe seek out a political renter or did Marty and his staff find this space on their own?"

What possible relevance does this question have to an act of vandalism? Abe is in business to make money. He will rent out to anyone who will pay him, whether it is a tattoo parlor or a political campaign.

  22. 9:09AM: While Trump's tweets do more harm than good in this country, he is not the "fuel" of ignorant and hateful acts, but rather he is the RESULT of decades of negative political discourse. The same insults being thrown at Trump were first thrown at George W. Bush and Bush was a case-study in acting presidential and showing polite restraint. No matter what Republican is in office, and no matter how well-meaning or polite they act, that Republican will be labeled "racist," "misogynist," and "fascist." Just as any Democrat, no matter how fiscally responsible or strong on defense they are, will be labeled "socialist," "weak," or "Snowflake." Trump and his tweeting is the symptom of American politics today not the cause. What Trump did was lower himself to the same level of his detractors, painting everyone against him (whether their opposition is legitimate or not) in the same broad brush of hateful rhetoric that he and those before him faced. At best, the next President will reclaim the dignity of the high office, but don't expect overall political discourse in this country to walk back from the edges.

  23. I believe after labor day we will begin seeing background stories about Marty. His tenure at the velodrome was marked by near 100% annual turnover, many women on the staff lasted only a few weeks. The Morning Call and Bicycling have interviewed velodrome staff, board members and cyclists who have known Marty for years. Marty is currently banned from the Velodrome. Expect some "Me Too" moments, financial discussions about his past sponsorship's and possibly doubts about drug free race results.

  24. 2:06. In other words, expect Wild's people to dig up all the dirt and throw all the mud they can at Northstein, besides bricks though his campaign headquarters. Let's not forget that he's Jewish either, correct? Throw in some good Antisemitism along into the slime to get Wild elected.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Marty is as fake as they come and no way near as intelligent as most regular voters.

    ReplyDelete
  26. 3:01 With regards to "Regular Voters", do you mean the ones which are dead or the ones that are alive ?

    ReplyDelete
  27. 2:58, I expect an ugly campaign with vicious attacks against both Nothstein and Wild. I consider the religious beliefs of all three candidates irrelevant and will be watching very carefully for anti-Semitism.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 3:33, 2:58. I suppose we've gone far down the road of "Political of personal destruction" to even worry about what the candidates stand for running for public office. Today fair game is anything that can be dug up since infancy on the opposing candidates, including old High School girlfriends and what was said about them during kindergarten.

All is fair to win, and the end justifies the means. This is why most intelligent people do not go into public service. The Susan Wilds and Marty Northsteins do, neither of which is the sharpest knife in the drawer.

"And knowing him as I do, I know that he has not ruled out that possibility,"
so the cop is part of the vast left wing conspiracy?
As it stands there is no proof that anyone from the left or right caused vandalism.
Basically you have started from the verdict(the left is guilty)and worked backwards using Occam's duct tape to reach such a verdict.
    Perhaps you are correct.
However what if it was a kid that tossed the concrete?
Or worse what if Nothstein wanted some free press and martyrdom?
It is not above the right wing to play such games.
Lastly you carry a grudge against Wild as she defeated your bud Morganelli.
Does that color your judgement somehow?
(BTW that is fine as i can understand your view towards her)
It sounds like a random teenager get the benefit of doubt and Nothstein or his supporters gets the benefit of doubt but Wild or her supporters get no benefit of doubt at all.
without definitive proof it becomes a question of fairness.

  32. Love how the disciples of tRump cry about "alleged" political violence. When the Prez told a crowd to go ahead and punch the guy and I will pay your bail. He has encouraged and applauded anti-social and violent behavior. There is zero point zero evidence at this point that this was political in nature. Frankly most people in Northampton County don't even know who Nothstein is.

Sad when that is their only response to threats of violence by Maxine Waters, Hollywood celebs, ANTIFA and all the other Trump haters. I can see where your confusion lies about who's hosting this event since Lehigh Valley For All likes to take credit for everything, but this event is actually being hosted by the Lehigh Valley Democrats and Progressives Coalition. They have made the event free and open to all, although I don't know why any Trump supporters would want to attend since it's just going to be another useless attempt to unify the divided local Democrats.

  44. Trump supporters who might be having second thoughts might have wanted t attend, but not if told they are unwelcome. 50. The Velodrome board has decided that after repeated out of court settlements they no longer want Marty at the facility. He has not been welcome since earlier in the year.

Also see the following for a perspective on doping at the olympics.

In a similar fashion that Tom Weisel and Steve Johnson were complicit in Armstrong's doping, EDS's Nick Chenowith and USAC's Lisa Voight helped track cycling sprinter Marty Nothstein cover up a positive test prior to the Syndey Olympics, where Nothstein won gold.

Nothstein is said to have lead a similar type of doping structure, first in within track cycling during the 90's and later within the domestic road scene while on the professional team the 'Navigators'. Additional athletes were involved, including Kirk Obee, Nathan O’Neill, Adam Sbeih, Vassili Davidenko, and Phil Zajicek.

In Nothstein's book 'The Price of Gold'', the issue of doping is entirely absent from the treatment of his biography, which seems appropriate given the investigation.
