Zrinski Gets Airport Authority Post

Matt Dietz, Tara Zrinski
Braden Airpark is one of three facilities under the control of the bi-county airport authority. For several years, it was an ugly step sister that the airport considered selling to pay off a $16 million judgment. In 2012, Northampton County threatened a lawsuit to prevent a sale. Last year's budget even authorized a $250,000 grant in table games revenue for Braden. These financial concerns have diminished through the sale of land surrounding the main airport. Braden has been a hot-button item in Northampton County. But on Thursday night, Council appointed a person to the bi-county board who is unfamiliar with the Forks Tp facility and who knows nothing about airports. By a 6-2 vote, Council appointed one of its own, Tara Zrinski, to the Airport Authority. Zrinski abstained from the vote. Peg Ferraro and Matt Dietz cast the sole No votes.

Before the vote, Ferraro asked Zrinski whether she fully supports Braden Airpark. Zrinski said the issue had only recently been brought to her attention.

"I want to vote for you," said Ferraro.

"I'm not pandering for your vote," responded Zrinski. "That's not what I do. ... I'm going to look at all sides of an issue." She admitted she has only been to only one meeting, and said that she is concerned about the "responsible" development of the airport's surrounding land.

Matt Dietz said he'd like the appointment himself. "That airport has been my life since I graduated from high school," said Dietz, who indicated he works out of the airport and has been a tenant there. He said the board needs people like himself, who have an aviation or business background.

Ken Kraft said he appointed Dietz as liaison, and though he has no vote, can exercise his influence.

Heckman said he favored Zrinski she is not part of an "inner circle" that had "lobster lunches." He said she "is not beholden to the corporate gods of the Lehigh Valley."

Blogger's Opinion: I agree the position should go to someone with a business or aviation background, not Zrinski. She has only attended one meeting and appears to be more concerned about land development than airport operations. She is not beholden to corporate gods, but is an environmental activist Her response to Ferraro was a bit arrogant. But it also should not go to Dietz. Although he has no direct conflict of interest, that stigma followed airport tenant Dean Browning when he was on the board.

  1. I don't care about her environmental concerns. I do know that the Airport Authority ahs been run by republican businessmen and their lackeys for years. I remember being told how they had to be forced by the counties to have open meetings, then to allow people to get copies of their minutes. Yes I even heard about their exorbitant lunches.
Sounds like it is time for ordinary citizens to be on that board. The "professionals" have made enough bonehead decisions over the years. Since when do you sing for your supper from the old Partnership boys?

  2. Then pick an “ordinary citizen.” She’s is not an “ordinary citizen.” She is an elected official and has an agenda just like the “republican businessmen,” although she did demonstrate just as much arrogance. Those ridiculous lunches ended years ago, at least a decade. I see no reason why someone should be excluded on the basis of party or his profession, as you have chosen to do. There are numerous people who have integrity, are knowledgeable and could serve. I also oppose Dietz precisely bc he has an arguable conflict.

  4. She stood up to pocketbook Peg so of course you hate her for the position. You always go easy on Peg. How about her not showing up for three months after getting re-elected. How about that?

It's sometimes difficult to tell here, when reading the Daily McClure, but couldn't the County Executive have done anything to stop Council from making this terrible appointment?

  6. Once Zrnski finds out that most general aviation (propeller driven) aircraft are still burning fuel with lead in it, she is going to call for the closure of Queen City and Braden...
For the life of me I can't understand why with rare exceptions, they keep appointing either people with no aviation experience to this board, or old LV Partnership types.

  7. There are a number of things to like about Zrinski, her arrogance and her tendency to occassionally rely on a juvenile and trendy knee jerk political style are not her most attractive contributions.
I am prepared to bet that she can mature into a valuable asset to NorCo goverment.

  9. Wasn't Glenn Reibman just appointed to the Airport Authority? Oh, hold on a minute, he can see the Braden Airport from his Forks Township Home so that makes him qualified to serve.

I dislike her and Dietz for this position and for the reasons I said. That does include her unnecessary arrogance to Peg. There was no reason for it. As for Peg's attendance, it will be reflected in my annual attendance report card. I believe she actually only missed one council meeting, having attended the others by phone. Zrinski has also missed at least one committee meeting thus far.

  13. " couldn't the County Executive have done anything to stop Council from making this terrible appointment?"

Yes. I do not agree 100% with everything McClure has done. Obviously, his appointment of Treisner was a mistake. I believe he also appointed O'Donnell to the LVPC.I should have spoken out against it bc he is a flake. And I believe Zrinski wanted that appointment only so she could interfere in the development of the airport's land.

    Perhaps. We shall see.

"Tara is a woman and that’s good enough for me."

Supporting someone based solely on sex/gender is just plain dumb. What about the issues? What about the circumstance? What about qualifications? What about principles or values? Would it be different for someone to post that xxx was a man and that's good enough for me? These comments are not specific to Tara Zrinski and her appointment. The comments and questions are in response to the post.

    This accusation is complete horseshit.

  20. "Hey Bernie, you should read her Facebook post. She tells you where the airplanes land!!"

I read her F/B post, in which she pretty much rehashes what Ron Heckman had to say. She did not address me or my argument in any way. The fact is she knew nothing about Braden and refused to say whether she supports it. I also thought she was a little arrogant with Peg.

One of Tara's F/B friends does have a problem with me. Arianne Rox, who fancies herself a musician, had this yo say about me: "Not a fan of the author of this blog. And I’m quite familiar with his writing."

Well, Arianne, I'm no fan of your caterwauling, so I guess that makes us even.

  21. Mr. O'Hare stop picking on this young woman.

  22. I am not sure what the problem is between you and thus woman. I am surprised that as an elected official she ha snot bothered to come on this post and explain her position. She should consider giving you an answer.

  23. I have no problem with her other than exactly what I said. So you should be very sure. She was unfamiliar with the biggest issue facing the county concerning the airport, and got a little arrogant when another Council member asked her about it. Not complicated.

  24. She is an arrogant young woman and you, sir, are an old white man.
She understands the way of the world, a world in which your day of privilege no longer rules.
It’s a new day, get out of the way:

  26. The LNAA is an major embarrassment to the LV and is one of the biggest examples of government gone wrong. The appointments by JB were laughable. Bought and paid for his use in an unsuccessful bid for re-election along with the other Republicans board members. Now it is a different cast of characters performing the same play. It is crystal clear that McClure is putting party first. "But on Thursday night, Council appointed a person to the bi-county board who is unfamiliar with the Forks Tp facility and who knows nothing about airports. By a 6-2 vote, Council appointed one of its own, Tara Zrinski..."...WOW! No experience at all in aviation, government, or business so she is the most qualified person to be put in a decision making role!? Delusional thinking all around. McClure and the Dem's will be one term-ers as well and the merry-go-round will continue until someone puts the most qualified people in appointed county positions and ignore self-agendas (they never work re: Palowski) and this tiresome party first mentality (re: the entire country).

  27. Oh please, big deal out of nothing. Where was the outrage when the insiders were on the board. To Hell with the common man, right?

  28. Bernie seems to hate attractive and intelligent young women. Shame on you.

  29. Tara will surprise many and do a good job keeping the airport board and management team focused. A real breath
Of fresh air here. Long overdue and needed for sure! Let's give her a chance folks!
