Gracedale Union Workers Reduce Sick Time, See COLA Rise

According to the contract for Gracedale's AFSCME union workers, they would be entitled to a 2.5% instead of a 2% COLA this year if successful at reducing sick time in 2017. On January 2, Human Resources certified to Executive Lamont McClure that AFSCME has met this metric, So he is asking Council to give their COLA an extra bump. In doing so, McClure is honoring a contract.

  3. What a nice incentive. All unions should do that!

  4. Hopefully the sick time savings will more than pay for the cola increase. If the county calculated the savings, they made a great negotiating decision

McClure is complying with a contractual obligation that was almost certainly negotiated by his predecessor. This hatred of unions just bc they are unions is appalling and betrays a real hatred for ordinary workers who have historically been abused by employers, especially in the LV and coal regions.

  6. I don't understand?

What made them better, what is the cure. Has the AMA been informed? This is quite the medical breakthrough.
