NorCo's Failing Elder-Abuse Grade

Back in August, when he was running for Northampton County Executive, Lamont McClure called a news conference to discuss Human Services vacancies that endanger children and the elderly. Aside from one bottom-feeding blogger, the mainstream media turned up its nose. It refused to dirty its dainty little hands covering a story that might have political overtones.

Well, as it happens, McClure was right on the money. According to the state Department of Aging, Northampton County gets a failing grade in its handling of elder-abuse complaints.

Now that the election is over, the mainstream thinks it's safe enough to tell you what is going on.

A responsible press informs the electorate about issues.

  1. Bernie it takes special people to keep Human Services as a top priority program. This includes political leaders, department heads, and dedicated staff. When decision makers are elected and/or promoted they often do not bring these high values, dedication,or principles with them. John Mehler is the best Aging Director in the State. If he was operating with a reduced staff it was not his doing. Part of a newly instituted monthly report to Council should be a vacancy report which would provide transparency to this issue. How many vacancies are there, where are they and how long have they existed?

  4. 2:18, I agree re John Mehler. Frantz did submit periodic vacancy reports and always maintained things were under control. Guess not.

  5. Endanger children and the elderly? Maybe people should plan for their retirement years, and how bout people that have children make sure they’re probably taken care of! Oh wait, the tax and spend democraps will take care of you as long as you keep voting for them with the money that the responsible people work for and make sure they have money for a rainy day and take care of their kids with. Too bad not everyone is a responsible contributing member of society.

  6. Anon 8:12, typical teabagger republicon nonsense. Better turn up Booby gubber Walsh some more on the radio. You think you took care of your old age until I am paying for your nursing home, cause your kids dumped you old ass at the front door. You people are always bitching about taking care of yourselves, yet the most red states in the union take more fed $$$'s than they ever pay in taxes.

Your county republicons gave the Easton fish tank $40 million dollars. Those were your republicons that voted for that. They also gladly handed the state theater an extra $20k for more stuff. That was done by the queen of the republicons, pocketbook peg ferraro.

Instead of giving more and more money to the county's 1% insiders, maybe the county should actually spend the money on the services it is supposed to provide under the law.

  8. Didn't Bobby Guber Walsh take his show on the road to Tamaqua some years back? He was protesting the criminal prosecution of a little league manager who had a elementary school age pitcher throw at the head of a batter who the manager (also a Guber) felt shouldn't be playing ball.As I recall the good people of Tamaqua, who apparently are not Gubers made Bobby leave town without doing his show.

  9. Good story. One of the people elected to county council who knows John Mehler said he is one of the top Aging officials in the state. This person wants to see an in-depth evaluation of all Human services vacancies. Apparently the county has money to spend on all sorts of things and not for necessary jobs.
