Nothstein Announces Congressional Bid

"Work hard, dream big." That's what Marty Nothstein learned growing up in what he calls a blue collar family here in the Lehigh Valley. A 1996 Olympic champion, known as the Blade during his cycling days, has just announced his candidacy for the GOP nomination to Congress in the 15th Congressional District.

“America is the land of limitless opportunity, he says on his webpage. "However, too often, Washington fails us because career politicians are only looking out for themselves and their friends. Instead of tax reform and health care reform, we get gridlock and cronyism.”

“That has to stop.”

Nothstein is currently in his second year as a Lehigh County Commissioner.

His campaign announcement is on video form here.

He certainly has a better message than I've heard from the career pols.

  4. Simmons has NO chance against this opponent. Just the way media responds, and how people actually vote.

  5. That one line paragraph domes up the local pandering political parasites in one nice sentence. He has got many votes out of the gate with that real exclamitory statement.

  6. I'm still supporting the candidate with the fortitude to take on an incumbent who wasn't doing his job. The voters will be speaking before long. My question is, however, why would Dent support Mackenzie and Woodman support Nothstein when both are Trump supporters and very conservative candidates? Something is amiss here!

  7. Wayne Woodman can spend as much of his money as he wants to try to own a congressman, but Marty is not ready for prime time. This guy would get eaten alive in any debate.

  8. Nothing to see here!

  9. Ryan Mackenzie is by far the most credible candidate in this race. He's a staunch conservative with good name ID, is well-liked, and has actually gotten things done for PA voters.

  10. Please explain what Ryan has done for the voters!

  11. the fact that bernie seems to like him is a red flag

  12. Mackenzie has authored and had bills passed that:
    1) Make it easier for veterans to start businesses
    2) Improve care for stroke victims
    3) Reduce fraud in tax collection (just passed by the Senate tis week!)

He's doing things that help Pennsylvanians.

The candidate I like, John Morganelli, has yet to announce. I would hope Simmons is the R nominee bc he will be the easiest to beat.

  14. Hey, Bernie, have you ever wondered why John Morganelli is registered as a Dem? A review of his FB postings yields many Republican positions- Immigration, capital punishment, reproductive rights, to name a few. Beyond the once perceived need to be a Dem to win at the county level.

  15. As long as I have known him, John has been a conservative Democrat. A blue dog.

  16. I'm glad a drunken, disbarred lawyer is the oracle of LV politics here.

Simmons has won every election he has ever been in by double digit margins, except for 1. No one outworks him ever. You may dislike him, but the young man knows how to win.

He will be the republican nominee and Congressman come November of 2018. I can't wait to see the egg on your fat ugly face Bernie!

  17. When it comes to ugly, Simmons is King. He and his myrmudons run the ugliest campaigns. He has won against weak opponents. He will likely lose the R nomination bc the other candidates, announced and unannounced, are vastly superior. But I sure hope is the GOP nominee bc Morganelli will destroy him.

  18. Bernie, just a casual observation here....

I know you're a Dent fan and all but why the kid gloves with Mackenzie and Northstein?

Do you really think they're good candidates? I know you've gone after Mackenzie and Woodman on here before (Northstein is Woodman).

I personally think the whole Republican and Democratic fields are a joke right now (unless Morganelli gets in).

  19. This post was intended to do little more than inform readers that Nothstein is running. You folks are focused on next year’s races and seem to have forgotten about the ones in a few weeks.

I have criticized MacKenzie in the past, true. I have never criticized Nothstein. I know too little about him. But slamming him bc Wayne Woodman backs him is silly. I agree Morganelli will crush the GOP nominee, and the weakest of them is Simmons.
