18 Prominent LC Dems Say NO to Fed Ed

In a July 31 statement released just four days after Allentown Mayor Edwin "Fed Ed" Pawlowski was indicted on 54 counts of political corruption, 18 prominent Lehigh County Democrats made very clear they want nothing to do with him or his re-election campaign. Whether party officials ever distributed this missive to the press is unknown, but I received a copy on Saturday, and this is something you need to know.

The letter appears to be a response to a rambling and disjointed news conference by Lehigh County part boss Walt Felton, at Fed Ed's campaign headquarters, on the day of the indictment. "This was, a best, a tone-deaf response by the chairman, and at worst, an open attempt to imply the entire Lehigh County Democratic Party supported the Mayor's efforts," say these party members. "While none of the undersigned are presuming to pass judgment on the Mayor's innocence or guilt, we do feel he has lost the moral authority to not only govern, but to be the party's standard bearer in the general election of 2017."

The 18 Democrats, many of whom are running for election in November, state that the cloud of political corruption hanging over Allentown "has hampered the functions of our city's government, hurt the employees who serve every day, stalled our economic rebirth, and most disturbingly, created disdain and distrust among the citizens of Allentown."

They state that "government's purpose is to serve the citizenry. We believe this idea has been betrayed by the Mayor, and we will not be counted with him."

These 18 Democrats are as follows:

Peter Schweyer, State Rep., 22d District;         Julio Guridy, A-town City Council
Mike Schlossberg, State Rep., 132d District;    Dave McGuire, Atown City Council
Phil Armstrong, LC Exec candidate;                 Courtney Robinson, Atown City Council candidate
Geoff Brace, LC Comm'r District 4;                  Ed Zucal, Atown City Council candidate
Bob Elbich, candidate, LC District 1;                Ce-Ce Gerlach, Atown School Director
Amy Zanelli, candidate, LC District 3                Charles Theil, Atown School Director
Ray O'Connell, Atown City Council Prez           David Jones, LC Comm'r District 3
Daryl Hendricks, Atown City Council VP;          Roger MacLean, Atown City Council
Candida Affa, Atown City Council;                    Joyce Moore, U Milford Super. candidate

  1. Maybe you should ask Muller why he did not sign the letter. Or you could just continue to cover his behind by hiding the question.

  2. First, I refuse to allow you to call him names anonymously. Second, it should be very obvious why Muller did not sign this letter. He is not a candidate, unlike nearly everyone else involved. And as he announced a year ago, he's retiring at the end of his term.

  3. As the mayor has not been convicted of anything, doesn't he have the right to try and keep the job the people of Allentown elected him three times to perform ?

  4. The rats, whom for years have been fused at the hip to Ed, are now scurrying for the lifeboats as the S.S. Pawlowski begins its slow slide into the depths.

What needs to be done next is to investigate these rats who now don't want to have any association with Ed to see if any of Ed's slime has rubbed off on them.

    1. Would this be the toxic green slime contributors that now make up the LCWA board members? Now also the rain water tax collectors that separated the Allentown water authority for capitol start up funds.

He is presumed innocent in court, but has lost the moral authority to lead and has himself become a distracting issue. If he had any respect for the City, he would resign. If he loves his family, he'd resign. He obviously cares only about himself.

  12. "He obviously cares only about himself" - bullshit. Mayor Pawlowski cares about Allentown. He won't be railroaded by a bunch of hypocrite Dems, or a disbarred blogger. He has done more for the city than all former mayors combined. He loves this city and has done a fabulous job with its renaissance. The FBI case against him is as thin as your resume as a human being, O'Hare. He will be elected in November, and will serve another term despite your whining.

  13. He cares so much about Allentown he wanted to be Governor. He cares so much about Allentown he wanted to be US Senator. He was looking to jump ship ling ago. And now that his criminal behavior has caught up to him, he refuses to go because he needs the paycheck. The negative impact this has had on the city means nothing to him. He is extremely selfish.

  14. anon 12:30 has a point, despite you excuses. The highest elected democrat local official doe snot sign his name. It may be that he was prominently stranding beside Fed Ed at every race he tried. Muller is a political opportunist that you happen to protect. A Fed Ed cohort.

  15. Puerto Ricans and Syrians believe in this guy's bullshit, but the informed know he is a dastardly politician who is in self-denial. He won't leave until the federal court sets his sentence day. He'll be like his hero, Rob Blagojevich, in denial and behind bars.

  18. Keep whistling in the dark Bernie O. My cuz Edwin is breezing to another landslide election win and will aptly dodge the feds next year to avoid the greybar hotel. You will have FOUR MORE YEARS of ragging on his ass as he perches once again on his Queen City throne.
