Who Has Been Indicted With Fed Ed?

Yesterday, I told you that I expected to see Allentown Mayor Edwin "Fed Ed" Pawlowski indicted before the day was over. NBC-10's Jim Friedman was the first real reporter, as opposed to bottom-feeding blogger, to break the story late in the afternoon. The other news outlets quickly followed.

It's bigger than I thought. Five people have been indicted, including Fed Ed and Allentown Attorney Scott Allinson. The US Attorney's Office has scheduled two news conferences on both Wednesday and Thursday. From this, I infer that the still-sealed indictments encompass political corruption in both Allentown and Reading.

In Reading, former Mayor Vaughn Spencer may be one of those indicted, although I had thought he was cooperating with federal authorities.

Another likely defendant is Dean Miller. He was the former Executive Director of the Reading Water Authority, and at the same time, owned a meter reading company that read the meters.  This company overbilled some customers while winking at others.

The Reading Water Company's records were part of the FBI subpoena list.

I suspect that the fifth Defendant may be a local entrepreneur with business interests in both Reading and Allentown, but this is purely a guess on my part.

We'll know soon enough.

  1. Bernie what about the northeast tax company?

  2. I heard one of the officials in the city of Easton is getting a subpoena pertaining to the aquarium issue. They bought a big ORCA whale that recently died in Florida. Panto said it will fit right in with all the other dead weight in the city. It'll be a drawing card for downtown Easton. They'll have the only dead ORCA in captivity.

  4. I suppose we can conclude that "How to Conduct Honest Services" is not part of the curriculum at Moody. Certainly not a required course. Obviously not an "elective" course.

  5. BOH, any idea how much money Pawlowski has in his defense fund?
    How long will it last!

  6. What about the money shuffle between the unions in Phila , fed ed and the mayor of reading in order to get money to the Kenny campaign?

  7. How much did those digital billboards generate for the city when first erected and how much do they generate now? They seemed to have been divested rather quickly,

  8. After residing in Allentown with my wife for almost 40 years, the timing of our departure for a better life - just yesterday - has now become coincidentally symbolic.

That last hot shower I took rinsed me of the immundicity that has overshadowed Allentown under our current mayor. It just adds to the sadness of leaving our hometown area of family, friends and neighbors.

Keep up the good work Bernie, I will continue my readership from Denver.

    So long my friend.

  9. Speaking of Panto, how did his brother get a job at the bridge commission and will Sal visit mayor Ed in prison if he ends up there?

  13. How about the great facilitator in all this, Lisa Pawlwoski, campaign finance director who funneled money to H-Street Stratagies, {Michael Fleck] and other candidates supported by the Pawlowski's. She knew of the scams and participated in passing the extorted money around! To accepting ill-gotten gains to free work on her house by campaign donors, [Stellar], she embodies the depth of this corrupt organization.

Now I have a place to stay when I go west. I'll give you a few days to settle in before I pull up in my RV.

  15. Bernie ,you write,

"Another likely defendant is Dean Miller. He was the former Executive Director of the Reading Water Authority, and at the same time, owned a meter reading company that read the meters. This company overbilled some customers while winking at others.

Dean Miller is not part of the FBI investigation.

It is true RAWA was on the subpoena of the FBI "HOWEVER" NO !!! records were requested or taken by the FBI from RAWA.

Miller Environment did not bill anybody but RAWA.

Two issues arouse recently surrounding billing.

    1. Was Miller Environment billing the correct amount relating to the contractual services provided by Miller Company?

    2. What was there brake down in RAWA that caused them to not bill some entities full price and some not at all. That appears to be a question.

None of this has do with this investigation which is coming to a head.

    Hope THIS HELPS!

  16. 9:00, Reading water records were subpoenaed. You basically contradict yourself in two sentences. I have no idea whether Dean Miller is one of the named Defendants, but he clearly was playing games.

  19. Easton doesn't need a dead "ORCA" Whale. They have Sal and if he gets any bigger, he will explode.
One thing you have to admit......Sal Panto is doing a splendid job in Easton. Thanks Sal. You're not perfect and not without faults, but you are basically honest. We appreciate you.
What is Fenton trying to prove. It's like the Republicans when they tried to help Richard Nixon. FED ED is guilty and should resign. Unfortunately in his case, there isn't a Gerald Ford to pardon him. Of course he could pardon himself and his family like Donald Trump is pardoning his family.

  20. Bernie,

    I said RAWA was subpoenaed.

I also said no records were removed or requested from RAWA.

    No contradictions here.

In fact a RTK was sent to the FBI from RAWA and was denied for obvious legal reasons , RAWA also requested from the city a copy of the subpoena which the city never answered.

    That is the simple truth.

My bet is it will be Spencer and someone who had the ability to change bid picks here in Reading.

    We shall see.

  21. The comments concerning Panto are OT.I agree he is a good but flawed Mayor with a tremendous ego and that he is dishonest, as evidenced by his use of two false names to post comments on Lehigh Valley Live. He explained this with the lie that he was hacked.

  22. 9:19, I agree we shall see. You claim records were subpoenaed, but I don't understand your additional statement that they were not removed. If they were subpoenaed, they had to be produced. That's where I see a contradiction, and I don't understand your explanation, although it is early and i perhaps need an hour more of sleep.

  26. @08:21 hours: To my knowledge, they have at least eight [8] contractors that refused to pay to play. Mike Fleck, the inter-mediator, knew these people and I'm sure he gave them up. "Fed Ed" doesn't realize the mountain of evidence against him and Allan Jennings, Walt Felton and the uninformed people who think he is "a man of God" can't save him. He should plead guilty, resign and hope for a lighter sentence. Judge Juan R. Sanchez doesn't like unremorseful people and he will respond appropriately.

  42. I wonder if the urban poor who are rallying behind Fed Ed have ever been taken to an Eagles playoff game with a $100 steak dinner by a bunch of rich white guys..for free!! I think this type of behavior most exemplifies Fed Ed, he arranged for the bought and paid for City Council to raise his salary to over $120,000 K and then he finagled a free man cave, free meals at Johnny Mananas etc... Anyone making that much money ought to buy their own burritos and maybe they could sleep at night and not embarress their children. I still remember being very uncomfortable when Fed Ed arranged for City Council to raise the threshold amount for RFPs to $40 K, "to save money and simplify the process". Just think about how many contracts under $40 K he personally handed out and just think of the perks he received!
